2016 results

Once again it was a hard fought contest and a big thank you first of all goes to our readers and fans for supporting their favourite authors and making this once again super fun annual event. There were so many wonderful authors, books and covers nominated, all of which in our eyes are winners.

Anyway, enough from us, we’re sure you’re excited to see the results so just click on the post to find out who the top three winners are in each category. If you wish to see the final top ten listing then just go to the Round Three post.

Book of The Year 2016

In this category our readers chose their favourite book of the year published in 2016. As always this category received a lot of nominations but here are the top three books of 2016! These three books took the market by storm in 2016 and we would like to extend our congratulations to………

TJ Klune for Wolfsong

Debra Says: “Not even a question that this was my favorite book of the year. I still think of it months after reading it.  An epic tale of love, loyalty, friendship and family. I am so glad TJ Klune is planning more for the wonderful cast of characters he created.”

Santino Hassel and Megan Erickson for

Fast Connection

Debra Says: “There’s really a little bit of everything here, Luke and Dominic’s individual stories are compelling, there is real family drama, a nod to the difficulties of acclimating back to civilian life, coming out, a bit of angst (both teen and adult), humor, smoking hot sex and most importantly an amazing love story. Grab this book – you will not be disappointed.”

Tal Bauer for Enemies of the State

Freya Says: “What can I say about this story that doesn’t make me sound like a gushing teenager? Not much. Except, the drama, the angst, action and everything about this story was beautifully intoxicating. Enemies Of The State, for me, was a literary orgasm.”

Author of The Year 2016

This category is for the authors and all the wonderful work they do. Of course many fantastic authors were nominated and they all deserve an award in our opinion for the wonderful books they write and the joy they give us, but alas this is the Readers’ Choice and it was a hard fought competition. So here we go and congratulations go to……..

Santino Hassell

Santino was raised by a conservative family, but he was anything but traditional. He grew up to be a smart-mouthed grunge kid, then a transient twenty-something, and eventually transformed into a guy who spends his days and nights writing romance with an edge.

Santino is a dedicated gamer, a former fanfic writer, an ASoIaF mega nerd, a Grindr enthusiast, but most of all he is a writer of queer fiction that is heavily influenced by the gritty, urban landscape of New York City, his belief that human relationships are complex and flawed, and his own life experiences.

TJ Klune

When TJ Klune was eight, he picked up a pen and paper and began to write his first story (which turned out to be his own sweeping epic version of the video game Super Metroid—he didn't think the game ended very well and wanted to offer his own take on it. He never heard back from the video game company, much to his chagrin). Now, two decades later, the cast of characters in his head have only gotten louder, wondering why he has to go to work as a claims examiner for an insurance company during the day when he could just stay home and write.
He lives with a neurotic cat in the middle of the Sonoran Desert. It’s hot there, but he doesn’t mind. He dreams about one day standing at Stonehenge, just so he can say he did.

Sloane Kennedy

Although Sloane Kennedy always dreamed of being a writer as a teenager, she didn't take the plunge until March of 2015 when she released her first novel as an independent author. Since then, she has released 18 books including the Amazon best-selling "Barretti Security" series, "Finding" series and "Protectors" series. While she initially began writing M/F romance, she found her true passion writing gay romance and all 8 of her most recent releases reached the #1 spot on Amazon's Gay Romance bestseller list and 4 have made it to Amazon's overall bestseller list. Sloane was born in Germany and grew up in Virginia and Wisconsin. Although she currently lives in Wisconsin, the place where she has always felt most at home is Seattle and many of her books take place in the Emerald city. Although she is unmarried, a menagerie of 2 dogs and 3 cats keeps her busy enough and 3 young nieces take care of the rest of her free time. Sloane loves being able to share her passion for romance with readers and she is truly humbled by all the support she's received from fans and fellow authors alike.

Debut Author of The Year

This category is for debut authors who wowed the M/M world in 2016 with their first publication and took the market by storm. It’s not an easy thing writing and publishing your first book but then to receive such accolades makes it all worth it. We wish these authors all the best in their endeavours and that they may go from strength to strength to give us more delightful books in 2017 to look forward to. So with no further ado congratulations go to……….

In Freya’s own words, “Simply put, this series, rocked my world, and there’s more to come. It contains everything from soft, loving and sensual, to adrenaline fuelled, and heart-breaking. It’s The West Wing meets Black Hawk Down, with a scene stealing Russian in book two.So far there’s, Enemies Of The State, Interlude, and Enemy Of My Enemy.”

Kay Simone

Jex Lane

First published on 8th August with her first book Captive, Jex took the market by storm with her story of of the lonely Vampire Matthew Callahan until circumstance changes his future forever.

Series of The Year 2016

We all have our favourite series and this category celebrates the most popular series having a book published in 2016. Two authors back in the top three for a second year in a row, Santino Hassell with his Five Boroughs series and Charlie Cochet her THIRDS series. The author team of Megan Erickson and Santino Hassell made their debut this year with their wildly popular Cyberlove Series. Congratulations to all the top series!

Character Couple of The Year 2016

This category is all about the book boyfriends we fell in love with… there seems to be a constant fictional love affair going on at Sinfully with one fictional boyfriend or another and with all these wonderful characters how on earth is staying faithful to one fictional person ever possible?

16425261_786206128202657_496640746_n  16425338_786206184869318_1344613383_n  16468692_786206221535981_761917825_n

Dex and Sloane

Congratulations go to Charlie Cochet, back again with Dex and Sloane of her THIRDS series. The girls here at Sinfully have loved these two from the start and their popularity shows no signs of slowing down!

Garrett and Kai

Congratulations to Megan Erickson and Santino Hassell for wowing readers with Garrett and Kai of Strong Signal. The grumpy military man and the agoraphobic gamer grabbed readers’ hearts with their long distance love story.

Ryan and Jamie

Congratulations to Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy with Ryan and Jamie of Us. If you’re like our Lisa, you fell in love with them in Him and kept rooting for these two endearing, sexy characters through their rookie year.

Book of 2016 (Not Published in 2016)

This is probably the broadest category of all and is open for all. We received hundreds of nominations and again a hard fought contest with so many wonderful authors and books out there. Our readers nominated and then voted so congratulations go to the following books and their authors………..

16467277_786206454869291_1935425503_n  16469074_786206498202620_348552451_n  16426637_786209508202319_1033144395_n

Him by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy

Like many readers, our Lisa fell in love with this story of two long lost friends becoming lovers, back in July 2015. “Him was a beautifully written story that was steamy, fun and tender-hearted. With two captivating protagonists that captured my heart right from their initial introduction, how could I not fall in love with their love story?”

Hell & High Water (THIRDS #1) by Charlie Cochet

The book that introduced us to Dex, Sloane and the rest of Destructive Delta way back in 2014 was the start of an amazing series that is still going strong today, with Dex and Sloane taking gold in our Character Couple category this year. If you haven’t read it yet, pick one of the reasons Debra loved it and start, “Summing up the reasons I enjoyed this one: hot, sexy, alpha males (and females), snark, 80's pop culture references, shifters, undercover smexing, action scenes with things blowing up and teammates who may not be as straight as they say.”

Sutphin Boulevard (Five Boroughs #1)

by Santino Hassell

Last year’s Book of the Year in our Readers’ Choice Awards is still captivating readers. Monique found it hard to put into words just how much she loved this book back in 2015. “Michael and Nunzio have been bouncing around my head and heart for days, however, it wasn’t just the characters that had me so tongue tied but also how impressed I was by the writing, just putting ‘WOW’ and ‘OUTSTANDING’ on a page isn’t really going to cut it for a review.”

Book Cover of The Year 2016

This category isn’t so much for the authors but more a dedication to the wonderful artists who create such fabulous covers. There are so many talented artists and cover designers out there but you, our readers have chosen the covers that have most caught your eye this year and well deserved they are too. So without saying much more, as the these covers speak for themselves, here are your winning covers of 2016………………….

Congratulations to those artists whose beautiful work was chosen as our readers’ favourites this year, Broken by Nicola Haken, Cover Artist Reese Dante, Absolution by Sloane Kennedy, Cover Artist Jay Aheer and Murmuration by TJ Klune, Cover Artist Reese Dante.

Audiobook of The Year 2016

With the rising popularity in audiobooks readers and listeners had a lot of works to choose from in this year’s Readers’ Choice Awards. We were all thrilled by many productions and all the work that goes into producing an audiobook in 2016 and once again all deserved a prize in our eyes but it comes down to the top three once again. So congratulations go to………..

16426503_786205608202709_3491501_n  16441402_786205648202705_234443864_n  16443318_786205691536034_1016966201_n

With audiobooks it’s always about the combination between wonderfully written stories and exquisite narration. As always we have here three top award winning stories that have been brought to life by the narration. Talking about narration…………

Narrator of The Year 2016

Dedicated to those narrators who bring the written word to life, lifting the characters off the page and giving them wings. The voices that you come to love like a best friend with all the emotion they portray through the power of their voice alone. Reducing us to tears, jumping for joy or sighing at the happy ever after. Narration is a real talent as there are no facial expressions that can be used, just the nuances of the voice with all its richness, depth and variety to breathe life into a book and make it an experience that will not be forgotten. So now we come to the winners of this category and congratulations go to…………

Greg Tremblay

Mark has often sung the praises of Greg Tremblay’s narration, including in his review of Rhys Ford’s Murder and Mayhem audiobook. “Can this man do no wrong in my ears? He just seems to get the nuances of any characters in a book exactly right for me at least.”

Tristan James

Our Sue has praised Tristan James’ narrative style in her review of Andrew Grey’s  Between Loathing and Love. “The narration by Tristan James was exceptional. He portrayed the characters’ personalities and their emotions superbly, and his pacing and voice maintained my attention throughout.”

Joel Leslie

Mark has been enthralled with the Skyler Foxe series by Haley Walsh and Joel Leslie’s entertaining narration is a big part of that, “Joel’s performances have been steady and consistent. His voice characterisations are excellent. His voice has now grown on me like being wrapped up in comfy blanket when I get to hear Skyler and his friends.”
