Book Brief: Searching For My Killer by Edward Kendrick

searching for my killerTitle ~ Searching for My Killer

Author ~ Edward Kendrick

Publisher ~ JMS Books

Published ~ 3rd February 2018

Genre ~ Paranormal M/M Romance, Mystery

Sequel to Ghostly Investigations

My name is Tonio, and I'm a ghost. I want to, need to, find out who killed me so I can move on. The problem is, I have no idea how to do so. Or I didn't, until Brody and Jon showed up. They're ghosts, too, and they know Mike, a police detective, and Sage, a medium who can speak with the dead.

With their help, and mine, will it be possible for Mike to find out who pushed me off the lighting bridge at the theater where I worked? At the same time, can I come to grips with the fact that, in death, I've lost David, an actor at the theater and the one man I ever loved?

Freya’s Book Brief

While adjusting the stage lighting in the theatre, Tonio is murdered. The problem is, he’s the only one who knows his death was deliberate. In his ghost form, he gets angry when his demise is pronounced accidental or suicide. Fellow ghosts Brody and Jon come to his aid, along with their mortal friends Sage and Mike.

This story is told in the first person from Tonio’s POV. As such, it has a conversational tone, which doesn’t conform to strict grammar or sentence structure. In this instance, the format made me feel closer to the characters as the investigation unfolded.

While reading, I couldn’t help smiling, enjoying Tonio’s transition/discovery period between mortal and ghost. Then, realising he was murdered, Tonio has many questions as to why and who, but no answers.

I love the idea of ghost detectives. It almost opens an alternative genre, to supernatural, that I’d like to read more of. The addition of four characters from Ghostly Investigations (which I totally enjoyed) gave Tonio guidance and friendship, at a time when he not only needed to find his killer but must deal with losing his still living, love of his life, David. I was very touched by Tonio’s absolute faith in David, even when he is on the suspect list.

There is lots of theorising, and the story moves along nicely while keeping focus on the plot. I was particularly impressed with there being no obvious person in the frame. I can usually suss out the person who did it – I couldn’t here.

Searching For My Killer was a story of investigation and emotion that hit my heart.

ghostly investigationsGhostly Investigations

Jon Watts heard stories about ghosts but never believed in them ... until he becomes one. Now, if he wants to move on, he has to solve his own murder.
At least he'll have help from three new friends: Brody, an undercover cop who was killed five years earlier by an unknown assailant; Sage, a medium who can see and speak with ghosts; and Mike, the detective investigating Jon's murder, who doesn’t know ghosts exist until Sage convinces him otherwise.
Will the four men solve both Brody’s and Jon’s murders? The possible attraction between Mike and Sage only complicates things. Or are Jon and Brody doomed to remain ghosts forever?
