The Art of Being a Hero – Bleu Balls

Graphic Teaser 4 Bleu Balls by Tara LainHi and welcome. I’m Tara Lain and I’m delighted to be here to launch my new Balls to the Wall romance, Bleu Balls.

The heroes of Bleu Balls are the McMillan twins, both of whom find their happy ever after loves in this book. The brothers are artists in Laguna Beach, a popular art colony in southern California. I introduced the twins in an earlier book and established that they are painters, but in this story, their art plays a central role since they’re trying to win a commission to paint a huge mural in the lobby of a high rise office building and that painting goes on throughout the book. The twins get to peek down from a scaffold to see the people below, plus it’s the mural that brings one of the couples from the story (Robin and Paolo) together.

Bleu Balls is not the first time I’ve featured artists as heroes in my stories. The first artist I wrote was Rodney Mansfield in Fire Balls, one of my most popular characters ever, and his painting of the firefighter Hunter Fallon is key to the plot. In Outing the Quarterback, my hero is a successful football star in college, but wants to be a painter and meets his beloved in a painter’s master class. In Brush with Catastrophe, my hero’s art is not only his worldly talent, but also his supernatural one.

And now, Bleu Balls has two painters. While Robin is the more talented artist, Bobby’s brighter, more optimistic view is an essential part of the beauty and success of their creations.

Writing artists is special fun for me since I studied painting and mixed media collage so, while I still do research, I also know the mood and feeling of painting. I think artists make great heroes since their art combines emotion and passion with huge technical skill, making for a well-rounded man.

I hope you love Bleu Balls!

::: Cheryl’s Review :::

Double trouble. The McMillan twins, Robin and Bobby, are renowned for their talents—both as fine artists and for thrilling the various men who catch their eyes. As different in style and personality as their DNA is identical, they’re nonetheless best friends who divide and conquer, with Robin doing the serious painting and Bobby adding the sunny salesmanship.

But when their most important client decides Bobby must wield the paintbrush, the brothers revert to childhood tactics and switch places. Then along comes Micah, a handsome doctor who’s attracted to Bobby but invites Robin out to try to please his homophobic brother, and Paolo, the pain-in-the-butt client who thinks he’s wooing Bobby when he’s actually after Robin. Paolo harbors his own hidden pain that weirdly intersects with Robin’s, but pride and privacy conspire to produce what will either be a masterpiece—or end up as Dogs Playing Poker.
