No dirty deed goes unnoticed in a seductive game of cat and mouse. But for Alec and Gaige, the wrong move could get them killed.
Alec Drummond didn’t make his billions by playing nice—or by playing much at all. When it comes to pleasure, Alec only has time for whatever’s quick and easy, which is exactly what he gets from his company’s hot new computer genius. But Gaige Owens isn’t some pushover. He pushes back, and it’s giving Alec a rush. The question is, could Gaige be the one who’s leaking trade secrets? Just to be safe, Alec keeps him close at hand . . . night and day.
Gaige never thought he’d roll over for a man like Alec again, but who could resist sex this mind-blowing? Then there’s the draw of Alec’s mysterious side: his cutthroat ambition, his covert CIA connections, and the murder in his past. For Gaige, a deeper look proves an irresistible temptation. But when Gaige and Alec are stripped of their defenses by an unseen danger, everything they don’t know could bring them closer together—or tear them apart. Only one thing is certain: Before it’s all over, someone’s going down.

Freya’s Book Brief

Two hardass people

Dirty deeds with a corporate twist is what we have here. The CIA manipulate two men into working together on an operation that isn’t exactly sanctioned.

Alec does the odd bit of on-the-side work for the CIA to facilitate the opening of doors for his agricultural business abroad. Gaige is a hacker, who was set up for a fall by his ex-boyfriend. The CIA hold this over his head, as manipulation. Seth, the CIA handler, wants to set up Gaige as a potential target in Alec’s organisation. He wants to flush out some bad boys. Bad boys who may want to send the world into a food emergency.

Gaige gets caught by Alec interfering with his servers. There is an instant attraction between them. The following power play banter had me sqweeeeing with delight. Alec is a hot hardass in a suit, used to power play. One thing Alec doesn’t expect is the sarcastic push back from Gaige.

Hooked yet?  I was.

Told in the third person, these intriguing men live in a world that turns on power and information. Alec is essentially blackmailed into putting Gaige onto his staff, and through many chapters, they traverse the line between lethal and sexual. Indeed, there is a LOT of sex in this story, but unlike some tales, it fits with the characters, and the adrenaline filled situations they find themselves in. For the most part, it’s carnal and a stress release mechanism. Though, occasionally, I thought there was too much internal chatter before sex, and revisited arguments. Nevertheless, the arc between Alec and Gaige morphs from something both were used to, into something neither expected.

The other arc is that surrounding the seed deposit in Svalbard. There are so many people who could be the enemy, that it kept me guessing for a long time, and with each passing chapter, the story builds in strength to a drama filled end.
