Sometimes all that matters is being in the right place, at the right time.
Rami knows the storm should have killed him. Very much alive, though slightly waterlogged, he can’t shake the feeling that he didn’t survive on his own merits. He had help.
When a person of interest in the legal matter he’s been hired to untangle reveals a strong resemblance to the man who may have saved his life, venturing into uncharted waters becomes the least of Rami’s problems.
A loner living in the shadow of a once-great house, Malcolm is a hard man to pin down. His seemingly impossible feats of heroism have certainly saved lives, but the people of Envern, Maine, are only too eager to allege he had something to do with his employer’s death. Leading a secretive existence under a cloud of suspicion should scupper Malcolm’s appeal, but Rami has secrets of his own and his relationship with danger has always been complicated.
Reader Advisory: This book contains depression and suicidal ideation.
Publisher's Note: This book has previously been released as part of the I Need A Hero Anthology with Pride Publishing.

Freya’s Book Brief

Rami goes to Envern to settle the legalities of an estate. While there he meets Malcolm.

This short story has a Wuthering Heights vibe to it. There’s Mrs, Lynch, the rich widow who has the town at her beck and call. Then there’s Malcolm, the enigmatic groundsman who looks after the place. Only what makes this tale different is that Malcolm is gifted and helps others when it matters the most – during life and death situations.

Rami has emotional issues. These don’t help while dealing with the parties of the will, especially when there’s heat between himself and Malcolm. He’s depressed and not fussed if the storm waves permanently solve his problems. Only Malcolm gets in the way and saves him.

I found Riptide to be a well-written classic story with a difference. It is laced with stormy nights and people who fear the unknown, coming to unfounded conclusions. It’s a short story of otherworldly abilities, a battle of inheritance and family secrets.
