Jane’s Review

OMFG this is totally amaze balls! This is book 3 in the At First Sight series and is a 50k novella. If you haven't read this series then you really are missing out big time and you must do yourself a favour and pick it up immediately. You will meet and fall in love with the best bunch characters ever, laughing along on their (mis)adventures. You really need to read Tell Me It’s Real and The Queen and the Homo Jock King before reading this.

In this instalment we are all cordially invited to the wedding of Paul Auster and Vince Taylor. We catch up with all of the characters from the previous books and their latest shenanigans. We have workplace blowjobs, the most hilarious bachelor party Eeevvverrr! Including, and you won't want to miss this, Sexy Paul! Then we have the best horse ranch wedding with the most awesome vows and someone has a new beau.

TJ has done it again with the comedy genius that he is, I was laughing so hard at times that I was crying and practically wetting myself. It's quite a hard feat to get me in that state with just the power of words, but TJ manages it time and again. Couple that with the most amazing narration by Michael Lesley and I really have no hope.  The characters are delectably depicted and as well as being so funny, we also have very touching, romantic, emotional moments too. You can't help but be moved by the vows, quickly followed, of course, with more mirth and merriment. If you're a fan of this series then you are going to absolutely love this book, I certainly did.

Michael Lesley is a genius narrator, and he is just brilliant at capturing these particular characters. He has narrated the previous two books in the series and so has perfected the voices. In this one he has added his ‘Sexy Paul’ and it is exactly how I imagined it. I was hysterically laughing, tears pouring down my cheeks listening to him narrate the bachelor party. I generally listen to audiobooks in the car, and I had to stop and pull over as the happy, hysterical tears were obscuring my vision. The sass of his Helena Handbasket is legendary and Nana is voiced so well too. One of my favourite characters from this series is Nana’s homophobic, foul mouthed parrot, Johnny Depp and Michael nails Johnny Depp’s brilliant one liners! This is a one man performance, worthy of any stage show, an outstanding production. The combination of TJ Klune’s writing and Michael Lesley’s narration is deadly! They are a match made in comedy and performance heaven and long may their pairing reign! Loved it!

Meet TJ Klune

When TJ Klune was eight, he picked up a pen and paper and began to write his first story (which turned out to be his own sweeping epic version of the video game Super Metroid—he didn’t think the game ended very well and wanted to offer his own take on it. He never heard back from the video game company, much to his chagrin). Now, over two decades later, the cast of characters in his head have only gotten louder. But that’s okay, because he’s recently become a full-time writer, and can give them the time they deserve.
Since being published, TJ has won the Lambda Literary Award for Best Gay Romance, fought off three lions that threatened to attack him and his village, and was chosen by Amazon as having written one of the best GLBT books of 2011.
And one of those things isn’t true.
(It’s the lion thing. The lion thing isn’t true.)
