Review: Summer Heat by Jay Northcote

SummerHeatTitle ~ Summer Heat

Author ~ Jay Northcote

Published ~ 9th June 2017

Genre ~ Contemporary M/M Romance

A summer fling is an ideal cure for a broken heart. But when it’s with your best friend, things get complicated.

When Adam is dumped by his boyfriend, a week away at a beach resort seems like a great opportunity to get over his ex. Sun, sea, and no-strings sex will be just the boost he needs to move on with his life.

Adam’s best friend, Finn, agrees to accompany him at short notice. Finn’s had a crush on Adam for years, but is determined to put his feelings aside and be the perfect wingman in Adam’s time of crisis.

A spontaneous threesome with another guy forces Adam and Finn to confront their attraction to each other. Having a holiday fling together wasn’t part of the plan, and as their trip heats up, they soon realise that one night of fun won’t be enough for either of them.

The passion might be scorching, but their hearts and friendship are on the line. If their romance is going to survive the flight home, they have to be honest about what they want.

Lisa’s Review

Summer Heat is a stand-alone, contemporary M/M romance by Jay Northcote. This was a sexy, low-angst love story about two best friends who finally take a chance and move out of the friend-zone. What can be hotter than that? Hmmmm??? Perhaps some sexy times on a beach vacation. ;)

When Adam is dumped by his boyfriend he turns to his long-time best friend to not only help get through the break-up, but to also take his ex-boyfriend’s place in a planned beach trip to Spain. Finn has always had an unspoken crush on Adam but the timing was never right. Further, as the years have passed, Finn did not want to sacrifice his close friendship with Adam. Both friends have always managed to keep their relationship strictly platonic… until one night. Things get heated when a spur-of-the-moment threesome on their vacation leave both Finn and Adam reeling. As Adam and Finn move into the lust-filled realm of a friends-with-benefits relationship, can their friendship survive when they both discover that they want more?

After their one night fling, there’s no denying the sizzling attraction Adam and Finn have for each other. And, with the bulk of their vacation left to be enjoyed, a repeat performance without a third party is a hard to resist temptation. But, can the two besties really make it work? What will happen when they are back home from their vacation?

I loved how sweet Adam and Finn are and how adorably awkward they become as they both have no idea how to handle this new turn in their relationship. Once our two protagonists reveal how they truly feel about one another the progression of their relationship is natural and sweet despite the uncertainties. The pair have a few things to figure out, something they are willing to do for a chance at a happy forever with each other.

I really did enjoy reading Summer Heat. It is a sweet novel about embracing your feelings and taking that one chance of a life-time. When I finished the book I had a huge smile on my face. This was a wonderful, character-driven romance, a book that left me happily sighing by the end. Plus, is was hot! Bonus!!
