Lorie’s Review

So who is it???? Alain or Maxwell? Jani Kay left me waiting for the answer to that question for almost a year. I couldn’t wait to find out.

No Regrets picks up right where we were left hanging and the end of Lost in France. Alain finally realizes what a huge mistake he made letting Rebecca go. But, a shocking discovery solidifies his decision even more to leave Valerie. Alain decides to go after Rebecca, but he might be too late. Maxwell sees Rebecca’s decision to leave Alain as his golden opportunity, and he’s more determined than ever to win her heart. But, Germany proves to be one heartbreak after another.

No Regrets is full of danger, groveling, hot sex, and twists and turns. We are introduced to quite a few new characters including Rebecca’s sisters, Chloe and Lily. I’ve always believed there to be more to Maxwell than we see on the surface so I was happy to get a bit more insight into the secretive and commanding Maxwell Grant. Once again the story is told from Rebecca, Alain, and Maxwell’s POV.

This time around I had trouble connecting with some of the characters. Rebecca the runner for one... Whenever things get intense or she’s unable to handle them, Rebecca runs. This isn’t a surprising revelation, but this time it pushed me to the brink of frustration. I can certainly sympathize with Maxwell’s frustration of Rebecca’s running because I seriously wanted to smack some sense into her. Then there’s Alain…. He assumes Rebecca would be satisfied being the other women when he married the countess. Wait one minute!!! Seriously??? Do you really think a woman wants to be you second choice, Alain? That move was a deal breaker for me, and Alain lost any chance at redemption with me after that. Rebecca’s sister, Chloe, wasn’t high on my list either. Going after Rebecca’s sloppy seconds didn’t score her any points either. The only one that really interested me was Maxwell.

While I understand where the story is going, some of the events just felt forced and a bit awkward. And a few parts felt like they moved too fast and there was just so much happening all at once. It was one thing after another.

Compared to a lot of the early reviews, I seem to be in the minority. I can honestly say this is a case of “it’s not you, it’s me”. My reading tastes have certainly changed over the past year since I read Lost In France. I even did a re-read a few weeks ago in anticipation of No Regrets, and it didn’t have the same effect on me as the first time I read it. So my rating reflects my change in storyline preference. If you are a fan of Lost in France and still enjoy this type of storyline, I encourage you to pick up No Regrets –you will certainly enjoy it. Sadly, this one just fell victim to my ever changing tastes in books.

Lost in France (Firebird Trilogy #1)

Lost. The one thing I’ve wanted above everything else was taken from me in one night. My dreams were shattered forever because of one irreversible mistake.

There was nothing I could do about it.

I’d lost everything.

So I did what I always do. I ran.

To another continent.

To France.

To start over.

God knows, I needed a new beginning; a new job, a new life.

To find what I truly wanted…needed…craved.

A man of my own.

My French man found me. He was perfect.

Or…was he. Alain du Bois had a secret. One that could destroy us before we even had a chance to find love.

And why was my new boss, Maxwell Grant, the arrogant and demanding CEO of Grant Global, fixated on me?

Would I find myself in France?

Would I get what I desperately wanted?

Or was I jumping from one hotter than hell fire into another?

Jani loves ice cream, the color red and the ocean. She also loves sexy alpha males with a soft center and a big heart. Her heroines are real women, sassy and smart and they stand up for what they believe in, even if it sometimes takes them a while to work it all out.

When Jani isn't writing, she can be found reading, hanging out with her family and friends, or off on some travel adventure to discover new places and cultures. Jani also loves sitting in a corner at a coffee shop, with her laptop, spying covertly on the behavior of the people around her. You just never know when you may land up in one of her novels - lol.

Fortunately Jani's partner in crime supports her living in alternative worlds and talking to characters that live in her imagination. He hasn't committed her to the looney bin - yet. Jani's two kids know that they are loved and cherished by their crazy mother who is now out to exact revenge for all the embarrassment they caused her when they were little - by her writing steamy sexy novels and publishing them.

Jani hopes you will enjoy reading about the characters that live in her head and insist on being brought to life through her novels.
