So pull up a chair, grab a pot of coffee, nab some nibbles (preferably Cheesy ones), some Gummy Bears and sit back and enjoy the fabulous video author reading from the lovely Charlie, who we are always delighted to see here at Sinfully Sexy Book Review.

Blood & Thunder (THIRDS #2)

Title ~ Blood & Thunder (THIRDS #2)
Author ~ Charlie Cochet
Publisher ~ Dreamspinner Press
Published ~ 04th August 2014

When a series of bombs go off in a Therian youth center, injuring members of THIRDS Team Destructive Delta, and causing a rift between agents Dexter J. Daley and Sloane Brodie, peace seems unattainable. Especially when a new and frightening group, the Order of Adrasteia, appears to always be a step ahead. With panic and intolerance spreading and streets becoming littered with the Order’s propaganda, hostility between Humans and Therians grows daily. Dex and Sloane, along with the rest of the team, are determined to take down the Order and restore peace, not to mention settle a personal score. But the deeper the team investigates the bombings, the more they believe there’s a more sinister motive than a desire to shed blood and spread chaos.
Discovering the frightful truth behind the Order’s intent forces Sloane to confront secrets from a past he thought he’d left behind for good, a past that could not only destroy him and his career, but also the reputation of the organization that made him all he is today. Now more than ever, Dex and Sloane need each other, and, along with trust, the strength of their bond will mean the difference between justice and all-out war.

Monique & Macky Review

Monique: After the end of Hell & High Water the status quo between the humans and the Therians is sent into chaos… with THIRDS right smack, bang in the middle of the mayhem. This second book in the series takes us to another level where the secrets of the past threaten the future, not only for the Human and Therian citizens, but also for our two main characters Sloane and Dex, and the Destructive Alpha team as a whole.

We previously met Isaac Pearce, former HPF detective and now the leader of the newly formed Order of Adrasteia, in book #1, who in my opinion is quite frankly bat shit crazy, with a God complex to rid the earth of Therians, who he deems an abomination. His hatred against them fuelled by vengeance towards Sloane, the man he blames for the death of his brother and Sloane’s former lover, Gabe.

Isaac is taunting them, in a game of cat and mouse, manipulating their every move, frustrating the THIRDS who are trying to track down the fucker and establish his game plan...

Macky: The end of Hell & High Water was not so much a cliffhanger ending, but definitely a very strong 'Watch this space!' vibe, that opens book #2 up to a spectrum of thrilling scenarios that push the story forward in many ways and there's no doubt Charlie Cochet pulls all the stops out again as the storyline she chooses to lead us and the team into this time, is one hell of an exciting ride!

Monique: And WHAT a ride it was… Holy cheesy snacks and gummy bears Macky! I was totally flying on adrenaline from the abundance of testosterone and high octane action brought to us through the vivid imagery Charlie Cochet manages to convey through words alone. Not only is she a credible author but she also happens to be an excellent writer. I don’t know about you, but I’m buzzing with excitement!

Macky: "ROGER THAT"...Monique, "OVER!" Ooh look! I'm getting all THIRD'y and in the mode!, seriously I have to agree, that was another most excellent piece of writing from Charlie and yes, I'm buzzing too.

Monique: “ROGER THAT!?!”…Oh lord, we’ve unleashed your inner Dex, you’re going to start spouting eighties power ballads next, I just know it! *head desk*

Macky: Monique, in the wise and wonderful words of eighties band 'Starship'..."and we can build this dream together standing strong forever, nothing's going to stop us now". **sings loudly out of tune**

Monique: *put’s ear plugs in* la la la… can’t hear you! ...and THIRD’y what’s that about?

Macky: "DUCK AND COVER!!!" (does forward roll, onto knees and holds out imaginary gun)...sorry Monique, just got dive bombed by a fly...and it was actually a banana...anyhoo, back to the review!

Monique: I think I’m beginning to understand how Sloane feels  *trying not to laugh* I’ll crack on shall I! ….Hell and High Water was an excellent start to what promises to be a thrilling series, where the world building and foundations were laid perfectly for this compelling, funny, all action adventure with animated characters, all with distinct personalities and traits who have already stolen a piece of my heart. Aww… I just got a real sense of family from them. The camaraderie and banter… their loyalty to each other. Combine that with action, romance and kick ass alpha hero’s where the unit as a whole is inclusive and you have something very addictive that Charlie Cochet has very cleverly brought to life… and I love it!

Did you notice I didn’t mention the sex Macky???

Macky: Oh I feel a song coming on.. "Let's get physical, physical, I wanna get get animal lets get into animal, let me hear your body talk..."

Monique: Olivia Newton John! Really!?! *THUD!*

Macky: Haha...yes really! Awww's your fault, making me have to tell all the perps...oops sorry, I mean peeps...shoot! I'm still in THIRDS mode...that as well as some amazingly awesome action scenes and yeah, the fabulous witty banter that just snaps between them on page… we get some mouth watering smexing between Dex and Sloane, that I don't know about you M, but it had me getting all hot and bothered one minute, then all gooey and sighing the next. Awwwwww those two boys have definitely got my fact the whole gang of them are just so moreish. It's basically a matter of "What's not to like" about the whole package. I'm loving this too!

Monique: “WILCO” ...Oh God, you’ve got me at it now, and I am NOT singing eighties songs!!! Neither will I be doing anything untoward with a hoover!

Our chats have got a lot to answer for! Back to the boys, because I’m already chomping at the bit for more page time with the Destructive Alpha team! As much as I love Dex, I think I’m a Sloane gal, there’s something about strong, cool, calm and detached men with an air of power and confidence that screams ALL alpha male and just makes my tummy flutter… he calls to my inner floozy.

Macky: Well we all know your about YOUR inner floozy don't we!! And don't tell me you've never done anything untoward with a Hoover...I know all about you and the spin cycle on your washing machine!!! <wink wink> Hahaha...

It's a hard call for me, I think if I have to choose I'm a Dex girl, I love a man who makes me laugh and Mr Cheesy Doodle, power ballad lovin', king of the one liners, Dex makes me laugh in spades! My inner minx is telling me she wouldn't mind a roll in the hay AND a little giggle, slap and tickle with that man....well if he wasn't gay of course...there is that to consider...damn I wish I was a man!!! However I have to admit I wouldn't kick tall dark and mysterious, alpha man —I mean Jaguar— Sloane out the bed if he ever decided to come cuddle (or other stuff) one night! Dammit it Monique, you've got me talking about sex do you do that!?!

Monique: I should be thankful they aren’t Immortals with HUGE cocks!!!

Macky: Aw!!! You said Cocks!!!!

Monique: What are we six???

Macky: **snort** The readers haven't seen THAT review yet.....

Monique: Well they have a treat in stall for them… *winks*

Can we get back to the review now, I want to talk about Sloane? *pouts*

Macky: Okay then pouty girl, get your Sloane on now!

Monique: There are so many layers to that man but in Blood and Thunder we start to see just how vulnerable he is, his insecurities surface and that unshakable force that is Sloane Brodie starts to spiral out of control when his past threatens to collide with his future. Throw his feelings for Dex in the mix and his world as he once knew it is now unrecognisable. He’s afraid of the unknown, the what if’s and uncertainties of having no control. He’s lived with the darkness for so long, he’s scared of stepping into the sunlight and Dex is a noon sky on a summers day… they don’t come much brighter than him.

Macky: On a more serious note though about Dex too, I guess it's only fair to point out that he also has his more serious moments in the book. In a lot of ways he's like a big puppy...playful, amiable, soft hearted, fiercely loyal and of course hilarious. He really is an open book, wearing his heart on his sleeve for Sloane, ever the optimist while his partner is more the pessimist. I think what I love so much about him is his effect on the team, how he pulls them all together, strengthening the teams unity and commitment, and the way he's slowly breaking down Sloane’s resistance to their relationship. You can see that sometimes he's afraid emotionally but he never shows fear in the face of danger. he really is quite a guy!!

Monique: I like how he’s totally unselfish, and that’s one thing not only Dex and Sloane have in common but the whole team, they look out for each other, but are totally committed to doing what’s right. I’m excited to see how Charlie manages to work  romance into the mystery and intrigue that seem to follow these guys around.

Macky: Yes, that's what  I'm loving about this series up to now. Charlie is teasing us with future love matches and cleverly introducing new characters, like Hobbs brothers Rafe (I'm thinking that guy REALLY needs a chill pill, Lol) and Seb but at the same time the actual all action plots are just as tantalising. I'm dying to know now what's going to happen between the good guys and the baddies just as much as I desperately want to know about Ash and Cael's or Calvin and Hobbs' upcoming love story's. To be able to keep a reader just as much engaged in that side of a m/m romance is pretty cool writing.

Monique: I’m thinking Macky, that even if, as a reader, paranormal/shifter stories are not your thing, but you do like all action stories then this book would be perfect. As you know, I like both and for me personally I was waiting with anticipation for a little more shifter fun and games to unfold.

Macky: That’s my only niggle Monique. I just wish we had a bit extra on the paranormal side. I think her combat/police/fight sequences are amazing but I would like to see more actual shifter action too. The Therian/Human bonding class between Dex and Sloane in his Jaguar form in this one was hilarious, I loved it to bits but after that I don't recollect any of the Therians shifting in any of the raids or ops. Do you?

Monique: Ohhh… I loved that scene, totally had me laughing out loud! Despite the lack of shifting, it takes nothing away from just how fabulous this series is turning out to be… for me the first book was an outstanding 5 star read, and a hard book to live up to, but I think Blood and Thunder was a necessary stepping stone as we learn more about the lives of this band of brothers and the world they live in… Bravo Ms Cochet, and I’m pulling us back into the 21st century with Bruno Mars... “cause girl, you’re amazing, just the way you are.”

Macky: "AFFIRMATIVE SECTION LEADER" ...LOL...sorry couldn't resist... ditto on all the above, girlfriend!

So Monique baby,  how about we finish off with a nice eighties duet of Journeys Faithless...warning guys...plugs in ears now!!!

Monique: Are you seriously making me sing??? I haven’t had any alcohol!!!

Macky: Suck it up Homie... deep breath...and  we're off...all together now.....

Monique & Macky:

Dex and Sloane this is dedicated to you....

"Whooa, oh-oh-ooh

Whooa, oh-oh-ooh, oh

Whooa, oh-oh-oh, oh-whoooooa-oh

I'm still yours

I'm forever yours

Ever yours

Click here to see Dex and Sloane’s song, Faithfully, sung by Journey… who can sing, unlike Macky and I who sound more like the cats chorus …I’m off to make sure Macky takes her medication now, and leave you in the capable hands of a professional, the very lovely Charlie Cochet, who has for some reason agreed to pop in to the mad house that is SSBR… and read a passage for us from Blood and Thunder… fingers crossed she’ll come back!
