Rylee Thomas is used to being in control. But she’s about to meet the one man that just might make her enjoy losing it…

I am the exception to the rule.

In a world full of willing women, I’m a challenge to the roguish and achingly handsome Colton Donavan. A man used to getting exactly what he wants in all aspects of life. He’s the reckless bad boy constantly skating that razor thin edge toward out of control, on and off of the track.

Colton crashes into my life like a tornado: sapping my control, testing my vulnerabilities beyond their limits, and unintentionally penetrating the protective wall around my healing heart. Tearing apart the world I rebuilt so carefully with structure, predictability, and discipline.

I can’t give him what he wants and he can’t give me what I need. But after a glimpse beneath his refined exterior into the dark secrets of his damaged soul, can I bring myself to walk away?

Our sexual chemistry is undeniable. Our individual need for complete control is irrefutable. But when our worlds collide, is the chemistry enough to bring us together or will our untold secrets and battle of wills force us apart?

Our Review
K. Bromberg, after a bit of a rough start, I have to admit that you’ve made a believer out of me.  Do you think we can arrange for Mr. Colton Donovan to be taken on a test drive by yours truly?!

The rough start.  Let’s get this out of the way.  I was not a fan of the beginning of this story.  Very early on, Driven seemed to be falling into the same trap many of the stories classified as erotic romance do.  Rylee and Colton met for the first time, neither knowing who the other was, and immediately fell into a passionate, sexual encounter.  Granted, it was interrupted, but still.  Then, naturally, there was a bachelorette auction where Rylee had to fill in, and, of course, Colton purchased a date with her.  Bickering and banter ensued.  The worst for me, though, was that Colton was coming off entirely smarmy and cheesy.  I regret to say, at that moment, I thought the very worst of my hunk of racecar-drivin’ hottie.  Very sad.

Now, because I’m honest to a fault, I have to say that there were two small details pulled directly from the famous forerunners of the Millionaire-playboy Erotic Romance sub-genre.  At first, this really bothered me.  Detail one, flirty emails exchanged between Rylee and Colton.  Detail two, the fact that Rylee called Colton ‘Ace’.  I do believe there was a hint that ‘Ace’ may mean something specific to Rylee, so…I gave in on that.  Also, I give K. Bromberg BIG props.  She did include a shout-out to Christian and Ana, as well, so…yeah.  I got past these two things…eventually *wink*.
“Do you want to talk about it?” I ask softly, afraid to pry but wanting him to share what deep, dark secret has a hold on him.  Me playing Ana to his Christian.
I will freely confess to the fact that I am a hard sell anymore on erotic romance (yes, I do have a point here, so hush and keep reading).  It just feels like…been there, done that.  I’m over it.  Or, I thought I was.  There are a select few authors who seem to be slowly resuscitating my long-dead obsession with this genre, and I’m thrilled to say that K. Bromberg has been added to that list!!  How did she get there, you wonder, based on my review thus far?  Well, this was only the first chapter, people!  There was a heck of a lot more book to go, and I am so glad I kept reading!!

So, FINALLY, what made me a believer?  The story, my friends, the story.  The further I got into the story, the more involved I became.  Rylee worked for a company that had, basically, corporatized the foster care system.  They had set up actual homes for children in need, and all employees would take shifts, helping to care for and counsel the children.  I found the idea fascinating, and it was not simply used as a backdrop.  It’s an important part of the story.  I have no idea if it actually exists outside of this story or not.  I could genuinely feel Rylee’s love and affection for these children, her worry and concern.  I grew to love Rylee…and her best friend Haddie!  These two were a lot of fun together…
“My inner slut,” I reiterate, nodding my head, “I like that, but I think she’s lost.”  “Oh, we can find her, sister!” she snickers.  “She’s probably hiding behind the layers of cobwebs covering your crotch.”
All of this builds depth to a story.  This is exactly what too many stories are missing these days, no matter the genre.  Colton soon became involved with the company Rylee worked for in his capacity as a wealthy business owner, as well as racecar driver.  He may have used some Alpha-male, rich-dude manipulation to make it happen, but, once it did, he was all-in.  This is where my love (and lust) for Colton began to truly form.  Big, tough man + kids in need = melty sighs of pure happiness.  Colton’s baggage was heavy throughout this story.  I could feel it weighing him down, just as I could feel Rylee’s past hanging heavy on her (and what a tragedy she was dealing with…it had me in tears to hear her describe it).  We find out almost no details about Colton, but, thankfully, there are another two books on the way *grin*.

Driven, as you can tell, really does have a great storyline.  So, perfection for me is combining that great storyline with combustible chemistry and some *fanning self* very hot, but thankfully not kinky (I’m sooo over the kink right now), sex!  Oh, yeah, baby.  I needed a glass or ten of ice water to get through this one!!  Let me just tell you all, as a public service, Colton Donovan in his driver jumpsuit?!  You will have a…moment.  Holy hot racecar driver, Batman!
“So, Ace,” I wriggle my eyebrows, “You looked kind of hot in your race suit!”
I tilt my head and purse my lips as I study him back.  “I wanted…” my voice is quiet, unsure, when I speak.  The small smile playing at the corners of Colton’s lips gives me the surge of confidence I need to continue.  Knowing he wants me.  Knowing that he desires me and wants more of whatever this is, emboldens me.  Empowers me to finish my thought.  “I wanted you to take me right there on the hood of your car.”
Truthfully, I couldn’t be happier with how Driven turned around so quickly for me.  I ended up thoroughly enjoying the story, the characters, the chemistry AND the emotion-driven sex!!  Many of you have probably already read and loved this fantastic first book in The Driven Trilogy.  If you have, be sure to leave a review wherever you made your purchase, and remember to recommend the book to a friend.  If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to enjoy the lovely, intelligent and compassionate Rylee Thomas OR one hellishly hot speedracer named Colton Donovan, GET THEE TO AN ONLINE BOOKSELLER NOW!!  Book two can’t come soon enough for me!
