Finding hope, keeping love.
Needing a change of scene, Griffin Burke moves from Brisbane to Coolum Beach to start a new job. The beautiful white sand, aqua-coloured ocean, blue skies, and summer breezes are everything he longs for. What he finds is a mud-covered dog, lost and hungry, with a nametag and a phone number.

Dane Hughes is stuck in Surfers Paradise at a week-long work conference when he gets a phone call from his distraught mother. His dog, his fur baby, Wicket, has run away. Unable to leave and feeling helpless and miserable, he gets a text from a guy. “I think I found your dog…”

Griffin and Dane start talking, and Griffin agrees to look after Wicket until Dane can collect him. With a few days left before his new job starts, Griffin takes Wicket on some coastal adventures and sends Dane photos of their fun, and so the start of something new and kind of wonderful begins.

Griffin might have moved to Coolum in search of a new life, but what he finds is so much more. What he gets to keep just might take some four-legged help.

Jane’s Review

If you're craving a bit of no angst, sweet as sugar, cotton candy fluff then this is it! I read this in a couple of hours as it's a quick and easy read, perfect for a cozy afternoon pulling you away from the cold, dreary weather. Nothing to think about and muddy your brain, just pure unadulterated cutesy romance. However, Ms. Walker never let it flow into a lava of cheese either, kept it just the right side of a cheese fest which I appreciated.

Griffin Burke is seeking an all encompassing change in his life and it comes in the shape of a promotion in his job which sends him up the coast from Brisbane to Coolum. Once there he moves into a flat above his landlady Bernice. What a character, she's an ageing stoner hippy with a mouth on her. I loved her instantly and her “friend” Kirk. They both truly touched me, I have such a soft spot for them. Their story unfolds throughout alongside the main plot and it's such a sweet one but I won't spoil it.

After moving in, Griffin begins exploring his new surroundings and after a hike in the National Park, he spots a dog with no owner around. Upon returning the following day, the dog is still there but looking a bit worse for wear and hungry and thirsty. The dog has a tag with his name Wicket and a phone number. Griffin rings hoping to speak to the owner.

Dane Hughes is at a work conference in Surfers Paradise for the week when his mum informs him that Wicket has gone missing. He is beside himself with worry but unable to leave work. When he gets the call from Griffin that he has found the dog, he is so relieved and even more so when Griffin says he will look after Wicket until Dane gets back from his conference. The phone calls back and forth with accompanying photos then start up and are so sweet. You can practically imagine yourself there at the beach or on walks with Griffin and Wicket, I could almost feel the sun on my face and the sand between my toes. Any dog or animal lover is just going to melt at the cuteness overload.

You can see Griffin and Dane starting a relationship in front of your eyes. It's tentative at first but both men are on the same page and so it just develops as time goes on. Wicket always plays his part too, sometimes interrupting sexy times which made me chuckle. The sexy times are hot and also funny when Bernice and Kirk embarrass them. The ending was absolutely perfect, no spoilers but just beautiful and so apt. It left me with a happy heart and sighing in utter contentment. A romantic, sentimental story with all the feel good factors, loved it!

Meet N.R. Walker

N.R. Walker is an Australian author, who loves her genre of gay romance. She loves writing and spends far too much time doing it, but wouldn’t have it any other way.

She is many things: a mother, a wife, a sister, a writer. She has pretty, pretty boys who live in her head, who don’t let her sleep at night unless she gives them life with words. She likes it when they do dirty, dirty things... but likes it even more when they fall in love.

She used to think having people in her head talking to her was weird, until one day she happened across other writers who told her it was normal.

She’s been writing ever since...

  1. This sounds like such a cute read.

  2. I love it when soul mates meet...even if a dog is needed to make it happen! Love the cover!
