Everything's bigger in Texas, including weddings. And misunderstandings.

Colorado wedding planner Mason O'Reilly lands a major contract: a 200-guest wedding at the Leanin' N Ranch, where his friends Ford and Stoney are working to provide a safe space for LGBT events. The Wright/Preston ceremony is a destination wedding, and as the grooms are from Texas, everything is done over the phone and email. There's no way that could lead to trouble, right?

Oil tycoon Noah Wright isn't happy about the impending disaster, but he admires Mason's quick thinking and grace under pressure. And that's not all he likes about the out-and-proud wedding planner. Even though Mason's interested in Noah, his Mr. Right can't possibly be a rancher from Dallas.

Can he?

Sue’s Review

This is the second story from the Leanin’ N Ranch by BA Tortuga. I adored Commitment Ranch where we were introduced to Ford, Stoney, Quartz, Jeff, and all the crew at this LGBTQ friendly holiday and events ranch in Colorado. I loved John Solo’s narration and his interpretation of the characters, so it took me a time to adjust to a new narrator and different character voices for these familiar personalities.

This story features many of the characters from book one, plus two new characters are introduced as the love interest. Mason is a local wedding planner and Noah is a Texan billionaire who is funding a huge wedding at the Ranch.

Much of the first half of the story is focused on the wedding preparations and the embarrassing mix-up that has occurred. The two characters are at odds at first, but as Mason works his magic Noah thaws and the two men gradually fall for each other. They have a couple of sweet and steamy scenes together.

Then once the wedding celebration week is over, Mason and Noah have to deal with a long distance relationship or at least make an attempt at one. At times, they are too busy to even talk on the phone let alone make time to spend a weekend together, but they do manage it eventually. Mason gets the chance to stay at Noah’s family ranch in Texas, but that doesn’t work out too well.

Despite these guys having a few intimate and sizzling moments together, I didn’t really feel the connection between them. I couldn’t see how or why they fell in love. It just happened. They weren’t shown spending a lot of time together and getting to know each other. There was so much else going on with the wedding organisation and the other events going on. The story ends well for them when they finally manage to sort themselves out.

Robbie Nelson is a new narrator to me. He made an admirable attempt at the various character voices (and there are a lot of them in this story), although his pace was a little fast at times. I would have preferred consistency within the series by having the same narrator as before, but I doubt if the author had any control over this.

A fist fight, a snowstorm, a stolen kiss in the barn and a second chance at love.

Ford Nixel has two law offices, two fancy condominiums, and all the right connections. In short, he has everything he wants.

The last thing he needs is his Uncle Ty's stake in the Leaning N, a ranch that's been in the family for generations. Ford hasn't even been to the ranch in over a decade, not since he left his boyfriend Stoney behind and headed back to college alone.

Ford arrives at the Leaning N to find Stoney, now a single father, right where he left him. A fist fight, a snowstorm, and a stolen kiss in the barn later - Ford knows none of the heat between them has dissipated.

Meet BA Tortuga

Texan to the bone and an unrepentant Daddy's Girl, BA Tortuga spends her days with her basset hounds and her beloved wife, texting her sisters, and eating Mexican food. When she's not doing that, she's writing. She spends her days off watching rodeo, knitting and surfing Pinterest in the name of research. BA's personal saviors include her wife, Julia Talbot, her best friend, Sean Michael, and coffee. Lots of coffee. Really good coffee.

Having written everything from fist-fighting rednecks to hard-core cowboys to werewolves, BA does her damnedest to tell the stories of her heart, which was raised in Northeast Texas, but has heard the call of the high desert and lives in the Sandias. With books ranging from hard-hitting GLBT romance, to fiery menages, to the most traditional of love stories, BA refuses to be pigeon-holed by anyone but the voices in her head.
