Published ~ 16th January 2018

Genre ~ Paranormal M/M Romance

Gael Peterson has spent years hiding behind the enhanced abilities he wears like a mask, even though he is an important, confident member of the FBI’s exclusive H.E.R.O. team. The hurt and betrayal of his mom’s abandonment and his father’s fists are secrets buried deep beneath the ugly scars on his face, and he doesn’t trust Jake, his new regular human partner, with any of them. In a world where those with special abilities like Gael’s are regarded as freaks and monsters, it won’t be easy for him to rely on Jake to have his back, especially when the abilities of a vulnerable nonspeaking enhanced child make that child a murder suspect.
Tempers rise and loyalties are challenged, and when the serial killer targeting the enhanced finally sets his sights on Gael, not only will Gael have to trust Jake with his secrets, he might have to trust him to save his life.

Jane’s Review

What a book! What a series! This is the third Enhanced world book and it really builds on the first two. I absolutely loved it and was totally absorbed into the world once again. This book focuses on Gael Peterson and his new regular human partner Jake. Gael is hiding behind his enhanced abilities and showing the world only what he wants them to see. He is hiding his past and all of the hurt he endured as a child after being abandoned by his mother and left defending his younger brother from the fury and fists of his father. The burns on his face tell another story and it's heartbreaking to read. This book is much angstier than the previous two and I had my heart in my mouth on more than a couple of occasions. Gael doesn't trust easily and so doesn't try to get to know his new partner and asks for Jake to be swapped to another team member, Vance. However just before the transfer happens Jake manages to breach Gael’s defences and they make a connection. They have an attraction to each other and I was glad that Gael finally let someone in. Jake is an absolute sweetheart and I fell in love with both him and Gael, their relationship is beautiful to watch unfurl. However, Jake’s background does throw a spanner in the works at one point as we discover how he's come to be on the H.E.R.O task force.

The plot in this book is fascinating and I was totally gripped. The enhanced are being targeted and in a very unique way.  Whilst I did guess correctly who was behind it, I felt sick reading it. What Gael endures as he's targeted by the serial killer will make your pulse race and heart pound and not in a good way. I was praying Jake and the rest of the team made it to him in time. The writing of this part was so brilliant, gripping and white knuckled, I was so totally there with Gael feeling everything he was going through. I hated the serial killer so much. I had quite the violent reaction to him and was praying he got what he deserved.

One of Gael’s enhanced abilities is his unrivalled language and communication skills. He uses this on a mute enhanced child Derrick who is a murder suspect, all tied in with the unfolding story. He manages to be one of the only people who can communicate with Derrick which he does through tactile signing. Gael’s connection with the child is heart melting and is a beautiful arc to the story. There are other characters we’re introduced to in this book and I defy anyone not to immediately fall in love with the mischievous but charming blue haired Angel. The ending of the story had a little angst I wasn't expecting, but it wrapped it up beautifully and I had a little tear in my eye at how it all worked out for Jake and Gael and I just loved being introduced to Vance’s new partner which sets it all up nicely for the next book.

This is a brilliant, well written, hard hitting and gripping instalment of the series which just builds on the first two books and is just getting better and better in my opinion. If you haven't read any of this series yet you really must add it to your list. Highly recommended.
