Mechanic Jordan Hart is down on his luck, so he gladly accepts a temporary job servicing tractors at a hazelnut farm in Newberg, Oregon. He doesn’t expect to be attracted to his boss, Beckett Shaw. Still working on embracing his bisexuality, he’s reluctant to start anything, but Beckett’s gentle coaxing convinces Jordan to take a risk.

Beckett has vowed not to get involved with anyone until he can restore the Shaw Farms name as a leader in hazelnuts. But there’s no denying his interest in the shy mechanic who shows up at his door. Just as they begin to find a balance, outside forces threaten to tear them apart. Job opportunities force Jordan out of the Portland area he loves so much. But when danger comes too close to Beckett, Jordan must decide if he can follow his heart to the Willamette Valley… and straight back to Beckett.

States of Love: Stories of romance that span every corner of the United States.

Freya’s Book Brief

Down on his luck and out of work, Jordan jumps to it when a one-off job at a hazelnut farm pops up. He turns up eager to impress; he didn’t expect to be impressed in return.

With the state the farm was in after he took it over, Beck didn’t have time for relationships. But, Jordan ticked all his boxes and was hard to ignore.

Hearts And Hazelnuts is a sweet story of two men slowly falling in love, with a bit of drama on the side to spice things up. This a slow burn story. A significant portion is dedicated to describing life in rural Oregon, working a hazelnut plantation and the developing relationship between Beck and Jordan.

The story is told in the third person, and there are detailed descriptions of scenery and movements.  Personally, I’m not one for such comprehensive accounts. On the other hand, I definitely got a sense of life in the area, and the boys were sweet men who belonged together.

The story is very much a classic tale with classic lines and reactions such as tightening of trousers, sparks at a handshake, instant attraction, and shortness of breath. The heat rating is good, though limited in frequency.

If you are the kind of person who likes to sink into a way of life with some romance to give you the aww factor, this could be for you.
