What could an ex-con and a parole officer possibly have in common?

Nearing the end of a suspended jail sentence should unlock a brighter future for CJ Davis, only the chip on his shoulder is as hard to shift as his bad reputation. Born into a family of career criminals who live down Davis Road, an address the cops have dubbed Davis Row, his name alone is like a rap sheet that makes optimism impossible.

Brand-new parole officer Noah Huxley is determined to see the good in men like CJ. After all, he knows firsthand that bad things can happen to good people. His colleagues mock his doe-eyed optimism, but Noah soon sees CJ’s bad attitude and bravado are weapons he uses to keep people at a distance.

Both men know one simple mistake can change a life forever. At first glance, they might seem to be polar opposites. Yet underneath, they're not that different at all.

Jane’s Review

Wow, N.R.Walker strikes again! She never fails to totally capture me with her stories, characters and writing style. I totally fell in love with this book and the two main characters in particular.

CJ Davis has had a very hard life. His father and brothers are in and out of jail and he himself is currently on parole. Noah Huxley is the newbie ‘wet behind the ears’ parole officer assigned to CJ’s case. His fellow parole officers see naïveté, where Noah likes to think optimistically that he can change people's lives. CJ lives in a small rundown house, in a small run down town where nothing much happens and his family's reputation precedes everything. He lives with his Pops who stepped in to raise him when his own father couldn't or wouldn't. Pops is in poor health and CJ takes great care of him. This is where we first get a glimpse of the real CJ, he is so caring and thoughtful even though he has suffered terrible abuse at the hands of his father and older brothers. He works so hard at life for him and his pops, making the best of things, that is until his father is released from jail back on parole and returns to rule the house again.

Noah and CJ have an instant spark and though they are attracted to each other they know nothing can happen until CJ is no longer on parole so they have a time limit to wait out. In that time Noah wants CJ to try to better his life, he draws up a list of things that he eventually gets CJ to agree to. CJ is reluctant to try as he has no self confidence, no one other than his Pops and Mr. Barese, his lovely, old employer, have ever shown any interest in CJ and his life. My heart was just breaking for CJ and what he has been through. I hated his father and his brothers so much and I really wanted Noah to be able to help him.

The waiting time until they could be together filled me with as much anticipation as they had. The list of firsts they draw up just melted my heart, the emotion and feelings of the first hug, the first holding hands, getting an ID card and a bank card etc. had my heart just melting. There are so many gorgeous aaawwwwww moments in this story that are just so romantic they made my heart sing with happiness.

Noah has his own reasons for becoming a parole officer and it was nice to see him open up his own background to CJ. By the end when things were looking up for the both of them I was just waiting for the other shoe to drop, for everything to go to shit. The shit does hit the fan a couple of times, like the reason CJ is on parole in the first place. I was desperate for it to all work out and stayed up ‘til the early hours of the morning to finish it in one sitting; I wouldn't have slept not knowing how it ended.

N.R.Walker is so adept at filling my heart to bursting with happiness, but in this case she also made me squirm a bit first with the what ifs. What if it all goes wrong? What if he doesn't believe him? I felt such utter relief at the end and went to bed with a very full and happy heart. CJ, Noah, Pops and Mr. Barese have wormed their way right into my soul. I love them and this story and I just know I will constantly reread it. People you are in for such a treat with this book. Enjoy!

Meet N.R. Walker

N.R. Walker is an Australian author, who loves her genre of gay romance. She loves writing and spends far too much time doing it, but wouldn’t have it any other way.

She is many things: a mother, a wife, a sister, a writer. She has pretty, pretty boys who live in her head, who don’t let her sleep at night unless she gives them life with words. She likes it when they do dirty, dirty things... but likes it even more when they fall in love.

She used to think having people in her head talking to her was weird, until one day she happened across other writers who told her it was normal.

She’s been writing ever since...
