Review: Silk (A Material World #3) by K.C. Wells

silkTitle ~ Silk

Author ~ K.C. Wells

Publisher ~ Island Tales Press

Published ~ 29th September 2017

Genre ~ Contemporary M/M Romance

Matt Dorning likes his life just the way it is. Escorting provides him with enough money to live in his favorite city, New York, and he’s been doing it long enough that he knows the rules: don’t give it away when there’s always someone who'll pay for it; always leave them wanting more; and never, never lose your heart to a client.
Lucas Sawyer is about to challenge all Matt’s rules. He’s a beautiful man who shouldn’t need to pay for sex, and yet Matt knows he’s the latest hooker in a long line. Lucas lives a life Matt can only dream of, but it doesn’t appear to make him happy: there’s something going on beneath that poised, self-assured exterior. And Matt also knows that his time with Lucas won’t last forever - escorts have a certain shelf life where he’s concerned.
So what happens when the man who doesn’t ‘do’ relationships, starts to question his life? Lucas is about to embark on a journey of self discovery…and Matt’s life is about to get messy…
Although this is part of the Material World series, it is a stand alone novella. Expect sex, silk, and sensuality.

Debra’s Review

I love age-gap romance and throw in a sweet story with some smoking hot sex and I’ll likely be hooked. K.C. Wells has done all this with Lucas and Matt and this story is easily my favorite of the series.

Lucas is an extremely successful businessman. He grew up learning from his father that control and routine leads to success and he has done very well by that. He has a bit of social anxiety, perhaps an extreme introvert, and he doesn’t really like dealing with people face-to-face, but he has managers and supervisors to take care of things after his initial contacts with clients. He also keeps to routine and control with his sex life, hiring an escort a few times a month, but rarely the same one twice. That is until Matt arrives and does the unexpected – allows Lucas to give up his control for one night.

Matt is very happy with his life. He is planning to take over running his family’s restaurant and is currently working there as a server and learning the business. When he’s not working there, he makes money by modeling underwear and working as an escort. These are jobs that allow him to have plenty of sex (which he loves) and make money. He has full control over the jobs he takes and has a few rules to keep things going smoothly. He’s heard about Lucas from other escorts, he knows it’s going to be a one-time deal with the incredibly sexy man, so he decides to make it a one-time Lucas will never forget. When Lucas gets in touch with Matt again, the two start to bond over more than sex. Soon their tentative friendship has become so much more, but they each wonder just how much more they can have.

There is not a lot of drama here. It’s a character focused story of Matt and Lucas unexpectedly finding love while neither was particularly looking for it. While there is plenty of hot sex from the get-go between Matt and Lucas, there was really such a gentle build-up to the romance as both men soon begin breaking their rules just to spend time with each other.

I absolutely adored Matt and his attitude towards life. He has his goals, but he enjoys himself to the fullest on the way to meeting them. That is probably the biggest thing he first brings to Lucas’ life. Lucas, for all his success, has never really allowed himself to just enjoy things. Despite Matt being younger, he has no problem taking charge and getting Lucas to loosen up. Lucas is no slouch himself and it only gets better when he actively starts romancing Matt.

Just because there’s not a lot of drama, doesn’t mean the men don’t have some things they need to work out before they live happily ever after. Both have a bit of a stubborn streak, after all they’ve been doing things their own way without having to consider a partner until now. Luckily both men have pretty supportive families that can help them out, especially Lucas’ grandmother Diane. She may not make her appearance until late in the story, but she definitely makes her mark!

This was a wonderful story all the way through to the beautiful Epilogue. It’s not your typical age-gap or escort plot, and that’s a good thing. So if you can drag your eyes away from that gorgeous cover, I think you’ll be just as happy with the story you find under those blue silk sheets.

Meet K.C. Wells

Born and raised in the north-west of England, K.C. WELLS always loved writing. Words were important. Full stop. However, when childhood gave way to adulthood, the writing ceased, as life got in the way. K.C. discovered erotic fiction in 2009, when the purchase of a ménage storyline led to the startling discovery that reading about men in love was damn hot. In 2012, arriving at a really low point in life led to the desperate need to do something creative. An even bigger discovery waited in the wings—writing about men in love was even hotter….

K.C. now writes full-time and is loving every minute of her new career. The laptop still has no idea of what hit it… it only knows that it wants a rest, please. And it now has to get used to the idea that where K.C goes, it goes.

And as for those men in love that she writes about? The list of stories just waiting to be written is getting longer… and longer….
