five daresTitle ~ Five Dares

Genre ~ Contemporary M/M Romance, New Adult

Andy Tyler has been the class daredevil since middle school. Over the years, he’s convinced his best friend, Jake Masterson, to perform some dangerous-looking stunts with him. But the dare they attempt on the night of their college graduation goes sideways. The firecrackers explode too soon and both of them end up with badly burned palms.

But hey, nothing gets the “terrible two-o” down for long, and they recuperate in style at Andy’s family cottage in Cape Cod. As the weeks go by, both Andy and Jake grow frustrated over the inability to use their hands for all sorts of daily activities—including getting off. So Andy begins a new series of dares that don’t just cross the friendship line, they obliterate it.

But what might be mere sexual relief to Andy is serious business to Jake, who only recently got over years of secret pining for his straight best friend. Inevitably, the burns heal, summer ends, and hearts are broken. To fix things, Andy will have to face the greatest dare of all.

Lisa’s Review

What a fun read!

Five Dares is the latest stand-alone, M/M contemporary romance by author Eli Easton. This one kind of falls into the new adult category as well. I am a huge fan of this author with her fun and heart-warming books that leave you clenching your heart, laughing out loud, and happily sighing. This story was no exception. From the first page I was hooked and wanted to see just how things would play out between our two protagonists. This is the best-friends to lovers trope done well!

Andy Tyler and Jake Masterson have been best-friends since grade school. They have always been there for each other and have definitely gotten into some trouble. This is thanks to Andy’s daredevil tendencies and Jake’s inability to say no to his best-friend. Andy’s latest crazy dare goes wrong and both guys end up in the hospital with bad burns on their hands. What the heck are they going to do without the use of their hands for 6-8 weeks? They wind up going to Andy’s parents’ cottage in Cape Code (Nantucket) for the summer. After all, this is their last summer before Andy goes to Harvard and Jake moves to Silicon Valley.

Recuperation is a must for Andy and Jake; however, as the summer continues both guys get increasingly frustrated with the useless hands situation. Being down for the count does not stop Andy and he is not about to curb his insatiable appetite for challenges. He comes up with a new series of dares… of a sexual nature. These dares definitely cross all friendship boundaries. Further, Andy might not be taking this sudden foray into uncharted territory too seriously, but for Jake this is a different matter altogether. He’s just recently gotten over pining over Andy. Jake is bisexual and diving head first into a physical relationship with his bestie may do a number on his heart that he may never be able to recover from.

This was a cute love story. I absolutely loved how close Andy and Jake were as friends. Jake may have been the only one with romantic feelings at the start; however, I enjoyed how the relationship between our two protagonists developed slowly and organically as they began to experiment sexually. I think that Ms. Easton did a great job exploring the inner struggle that Andy goes through in attempting to understand his bisexuality. Yes, both characters were lacking in communication skills which did get a little frustrating as this is not my favourite when an author heads down this route. It all works out for Andy and Jake as they go from best-friends to so much more. It was definitely sweet!

All in all, Five Dares was a cute story with some serious heat. Such a great combo!! A recommended read!

Meet Eli Easton

Having been, at various times and under different names, a minister’s daughter, a computer programmer, a game designer, the author of paranormal mysteries, a fan fiction writer, an organic farmer and a profound sleeper, Eli is happily embarking on yet another incarnation as a m/m romance author.

As an avid reader of such, she is tinkled pink when an author manages to combine literary merit, vast stores of humor, melting hotness and eye-dabbing sweetness into one story.  She promises to strive to achieve most of that most of the time.  She currently lives on a farm in Pennsylvania with her husband, three bulldogs, three cows and six chickens.  All of them (except for the husband) are female, hence explaining the naked men that have taken up residence in her latest fiction writing.
