Synopsis

Zach Kelly’s life is a shambles. His boyfriend of three years dumped him, and his writing career is going nowhere. On a whim, he heads to Provincetown, Massachusetts, to nurse his broken heart and figure out his next step. He’s expecting to find rest and relaxation on the sandy beaches of Cape Cod. Instead, Zach meets a hunky porn star during a chance encounter at a leather shop he mistakes as a place to buy a belt that is definitely not for whipping.

Van Pierce is smitten when shy and inexperienced Zach crashes through a shelf of fetish gear. Though Van’s got an insatiable appetite for men on and off the set, his porn persona, Hart Throb, hides a broken heart. He’s struggling to find the reality the porno set doesn’t offer, and Zach is fighting to find the fantasy that will set his writing on fire. The odd goofball and the suave beefcake may either find love amid Provincetown’s colorful pageantry where summer never seems to end—or more heartbreak than either can imagine.

Debra’s Quick Bite

Some dirty sexy fun on the beach! Dumped by his boyfriend of 3 years and struggling with a writing career that has stalled, Zach Kelly makes the impulsive decision to spend a week in the beach town of Provincetown, MA, a paradise for gay men. Zach is a bit of a doormat trying to please everyone else but himself. Van Pierce aka Hart Throb is a power bottom porn star. Tired of being used by the men he loved, he turned to porn so he could have his sex the way he wanted it without the dangers of falling for someone. When Zach accidentally falls into his life, having no clue who Hart Throb is, Van is instantly attracted to not just the hot mess Zach outwardly is, but to something he sees inside. A hot and dirty 48-hour "non-date" leaves the men struggling to accept that what is happening between them is more than just sex and with the reality of Zach eventually leaving P-town things get ugly for a bit, but of course love wins out in the end.

This surprisingly emotional story set on the backdrop of a hedonistic, sometimes campy atmosphere really worked for me.   There was a lot of humor to balance out the more serious turns, and the sex was crazy hot.  The writing made the secondary characters and the setting itself really come to life.  A recommended summer beach read!

Honesty by Seth King

Synopsis

A radiant and award-winning tale of first love and self-acceptance for fans of John Green, Jandy Nelson, and Rainbow Rowell

“Maybe we weren’t meant to collide. Maybe we were meant to explode.”

As a closeted teenager in the Deep South with a holy-roller father and the scars to prove it, bookworm Cole Furman has resigned himself to experiencing life and love only within the pages of his favorite novels. But after Nick Flores seems to walk off a page and starts to rewrite his story, Cole finds his dreams spinning into a dazzling – and complicated – reality.

If you have ever found yourself on the wild breathless thriller ride that is first love, Honesty will rip you back again in screaming color.

Jane’s Quick Bite

This is Cole and Nicky’s story. It will pull you in with the depth of the emotion and the tantalising use of language. It's a story about discovering yourself and falling in love for the first time and all of the emotional turmoil that comes with that. The romance, the swooning, the self doubt, self acceptance and recriminations. It is a tale based on a true story about falling in love with a closeted boy in the Deep South and forging a path sometimes together, often apart. It's about maturing and learning life isn't like a fairytale or what's written on the pages of your favourite romance novel. It's taking the rough with the smooth. The truth this is based upon shines through in the writing, it is heartfelt, authentic and sincere. Seth’s style of writing is free flowing and the prose is eloquent and the use of language exquisite. His writing, his emotions, just like this story, are honest. I totally loved this book.

Tartarus by Eric Andrews-Katz

Synopsis

Long ago, the Olympian Gods conquered and nearly destroyed an earlier race known as the Titans. Echidna, Mother of Monsters, was imprisoned in Tartarus. Centuries later, she has escaped. Entering the modern world, Echidna finds the old Gods are gone, and vows to destroy every descendant of the Olympians.

In the contemporary Pacific Northwest, Adrian and Annelise have lived comfortably--unaware of their Olympian birthright and its significance. When Adrian is introduced to Zack, sparks fly and their initial contact slowly turns to romance.

Echidna unleashes a brutal attack and Zack reveals his Divine lineage. Now he must teach the twins about their own heritage, and how to wield their unique powers for the battle to come. The final battle between Titans and Olympians will be held in the Underworld. Modern weapons have no place and only magic can prevail.

Mark’s Quick Bite

This book was seriously off the genre beaten track for me but I’m so pleased I did pick this book up and ran with it. I usually don’t read anything on a fantasy basis, however as I like my historical stories then I couldn’t resist the premise of Greek gods, Titans, Olympians and all the myth and magic surrounding this. So yes, historical in the sense we have a super take on the Greek gods, monsters and legends; fantastical in the respect of myth, magic and underworlds.

We meet Adrian and Annelise, two twins and both gay, the other fascinating thing I found that was worked into this book is the empathy that twins share.Annelise has an art gallery and one of her recent exhibitions was for a local artist, Zack. Zack and Adrian are attracted to each other especially considering both have had a bit of a dry spell on the sex front. But whether this all goes well is up to how Adrian can accept who is when it is revealed to him by Zack and also accept who Zack really is.

This book is pure entertainment from beginning to end without a single boring moment. It is plot driven and extremely light on the erotic but the few times Zack and Adrian do get it on then it is hot! This story treated me to a wonderful modern day Greek saga with all the legend, myth and magic to accompany it. A real page turner if ever there was one.

Synopsis

Betrayed by his peers and slandered as a traitor, Commander Thierry Donovan has nothing left. Locked away and targeted by the very men responsible for his incarceration, Thierry defies the odds and fights for the fundamental right to survive the hell-hole of his imprisonment. With no one to trust, Thierry finds solace in the last place he imagines…

The church is Ryan Flynn’s sanctuary. He craves the solitude and peace he finds in the hallowed halls. His oath to serve God is a calling Ryan has hidden behind all of his adult life; until his past catches up with him in the form of his foster brother, Special Agent Orrin Hunt…

Submerging himself within a world of danger, violence and corruption is the only way Orrin can cope with life. Rejected and tormented by the bitter remorse of unrequited love, Orrin is oblivious to the beauty of what life can offer him. If he’d only open his eyes, and maybe his heart….

Jaydan Callahan’s life is a wreck. Gangs, drugs and violence are a part of his normal day to day routine. For one so young, he’s seen it, been there, done it and gotten more than enough tee shirts as proof. Capable of smelling a cop from a mile away, it comes as no surprise to Jay when the guy he has the hots for is actually working undercover to bring down the town’s notoriously dangerous king pin.

Four men, four lives, each one of them stained by lies, corruption and doubt. Can love show them the path to redemption, or will broken oaths, fear and grief make the crosses they bear too heavy a mantle to carry.

Love is Love

Sue’s Quick Bite

A gripping story involving four men who are entangled in a tale of love, duty, and intrigue.

Orrin has spent the past seventeen years pining for his foster brother. Ryan became a priest to avoid the attraction they’d developed for each other and has managed to stay celibate during this agonizing time. He’s learned to control his feelings, deciding to serve God rather than enter a relationship with a man. The two ‘brothers’ meet again when Ryan is asked to hear the confession of Commander Thierry Donovan, a former naval officer, who has been dishonorably discharged and falsely imprisoned. Orrin is the undercover agent investigating Thierry’s case and attempting to clear his name. He hopes Ryan can assist with this as well as renewing their former connection. What Orrin doesn’t anticipate is the priest and the innocent prisoner falling in love. The attraction between them is instant. Ryan is confused and torn between his love for God and his love for the commander. Thierry is love sick but accepts the priest may still choose God over him. He also knows Ryan and Orrin have their own personal issues to resolve.

Jaydan Callahan, a young street gang member, provides a distraction for Orrin’s aching heart. They work together to protect Thierry, whose life is in danger from a local mafia boss. The four men have to be careful with whom they trust and need to look out for each other to survive.

This is a lengthy enjoyable and action-packed adventure with many romantic and sizzling scenes. It is speedily paced and well written with plenty to maintain interest, including the point of view characters’ internal dialogue and dilemmas.

Guardian by Jordan Taylor

Synopsis

On a blustery November day in London, Gavin catches a bus from Waterloo Station to his office. He makes this journey five days a week, year after year, alone. Or so he thinks.
He does not know that his guardian angel accompanies him each day of his life, watching over him—loving him as all guardians must. His guardian’s feelings, however, fall into baser depths. As all guardians know, it is taboo to feel carnal love for a human ward. Such a relationship would not be viable—or healthy. Gavin’s guardian knows this. Lives and breathes this. And yet, to lift Gavin from depression, he is willing to attempt the impossible: to manifest as a human for Gavin and finally meet the love of his immortal life face-to-face.

Freya’s Quick Bite

A short intro to a short story. Guardian is a novella in which an otherworldly guardian falls for his human. As a physical, the guardian died young in another age, and now his soul is experienced.

Gavin has suffered loss, and his guardian feels everything with him. Gavin’s guardian has been in his role for three lifetimes and until now has never wanted to be seen. He yearns to take Gavin’s pain away and love him like he deserves to be loved. The question is whether that will happen or whether he loves Gavin enough to put his human’s interests first.

For a short story to be so complete, is unusual and a difficult thing to achieve. Guardian is simply beautiful. The thought of someone looking after me wherever I go is a lovely one. The idea of a person wanting to take away my pain, to wrap me in loving arms, experience everything with me, and nudge me in the right direction is delightful. Sounds like the perfect partner.

This story has a beautiful turn of phrase, is easy to read and is well written. It gave me hope, broke my heart then gave me hope again. At the end, I was between smiling and crying. While it isn’t a long read, it a short story very much worth reading. If you like novellas that speak to your heart, then this is a must. I loved it.
