Jamie’s Food-Pairings for Aidan’s Favorite Whiskeys

As much as Aidan loves his whiskey in SINGLE MALT and the AGENTS IRISH AND WHISKEY series, Jamie loves his food. Raised under his mother’s foot in a Southern diner, Jamie’s more than skilled in the kitchen, and he’s here today to share what foods he’d pair with his partner’s favorite whiskeys.

Jameson (Irish Whiskey) – Two directions I’d go with Jameson, pub snacks or shellfish. For pub snacks, you’re looking for salty to pair with this smooth Irish Whiskey—pub/Chex mix and pretzel bites are perfect. The same concept applies for seafood, the salty brininess of steamed oysters, muscles or clams pairs well and makes for great appetizers while you enjoy a drink.

Maker’s Mark (Kentucky Bourbon) – Pork Ribs all the way, and if you can smoke ’em, all the better. Sweet and smoky perfectly paired. There’s a reason bourbon glaze is so popular.

Laphroaig Quarter Cask (Islay Scotch) – Two options here, as well, and I’d challenge Aidan that Quarter Cask doesn’t have to be an after-dinner drink. Enjoy it before or after the meal with a salty blue cheese and quince paste. Or, if you want to enjoy it with a main, Indian food pairs incredibly well with scotch. Quarter Cask is strong enough to stand up well with a curry beef filet and fragrant basmati rice entree.

Macallan 18 (Speyside Scotch) – Macallan should be enjoyed after the meal, and nothing pairs better with it than chocolate, bringing out the citrus notes in the scotch. A chocolate soufflĂ© would be divine, as would my personal Southern favorite, chocolate chess pie. You can find The Angus Barn’s famous recipe here: http://www.food.com/recipe/angus-barns-chocolate-chess-pie-302975

Pappy Van Winkle 20 (Kentucky Bourbon) – Not that Aidan ever shares his PVW, but on that imaginary day in the future when he does, I’d skip the food and go straight for a cigar ;)

Eight months after the car crash that changed everything, FBI agent Aidan Talley is back at work. New department, new case and a new partner. Smart, athletic and handsome, Jameson Walker is twelve years his junior. Even if Aidan was ready to move on—and he's not—Jamie is off-limits.

Jamie's talents paint a target on his back, and Aidan is determined to protect him. But with hack after hack threatening a high-security biocontainment facility, time is running out to thwart a deadly terrorist attack. The heart’s a resilient beast…

Professionally, the FBI team of Aidan "Irish" Talley and Jameson "Whiskey" Walker is as good as it gets, closing cases faster than any team at the Bureau. Personally, it's a different story. Aidan's feelings for Jamie scare the hell out of him: he won't risk losing another love no matter how heart-tripping the intimacy between them. And loss is a grim reality with the terrorist Renaud still on their trail, leaving a pile of bodies in his wake.

Going undercover on a new case gets them out of town and off the killer's radar. They're assigned to investigate an identity theft ring involving a college basketball team in Jamie's home state, where Jamie's past makes him perfect for the role of coach. But returning to the court brings more than old memories.

As secrets and shocking betrayals abound, none may be more dangerous than the one Jamie's been keeping: a secret about the death of Aidan's husband that could blow his partner's world apart and destroy forever the fragile bonds of trust and love building between them.
