Featured Guest Author: Slow Heat by Leta Blake Includes Interview with Jason & Vale and Giveaway.

We are thrilled to welcome Leta Blake to Sinfully today, along with the two main characters Jason and Vale, from her new book Slow Heat. Go check out the interview and don’t forget to enter the giveaway!

I’d like to thank Sinfully for hosting me today. I thought it would be fun to sit with Jason and Vale, the main characters of my most recent novel, Slow Heat, to lob some reader’s questions their way. I’ve asked them to keep their answers as spoiler-free as possible, but there might be a few beans spilled in the process.

Before we get to the interview, though, let me introduce Jason and Vale for those who haven’t already read the book.

Jason is a nineteen year old budding scientist and university student. He’s an alpha, which, in the universe of this book means that he is usually the penetrating partner and can impregnate an omega. He’s blond, handsome, and earnest as heck.

Vale is a thirty-five year old professor and poet. He’s an omega who was well past the age of finding his destined mate when he and Jason collided in a very public and almost violent way. After some struggles, they’ve found their happy ending together. He’s dark haired, green eyed, and often emotionally reserved while appearing socially open.

In their society, alphas and omegas are the only ones who can reproduce. This is a non-shifter book, however, and the ability to reproduce is due to genetic tinkering from their long-gone, unknown and unknowable forefathers.

Now, on to the interview!

1) Before Vale met Jason, was he really okay with the fact that he hadn’t found his destined mate?

Vale: I was happy enough with my life. I thought I’d grieved my lack of a mate years before. Though perhaps ‘grieved’ isn’t entirely the right word. I acted out and made reckless, angry choices while I came to terms with not having a mate of my own. In the end, though, I had reached a peace with it. Meeting Jason and having him imprint on me was stunning. But at the same time, it awakened all the dreams of my youth. The hopes I’d suppressed for years.

2) Does Jason feel guilty about Vale's suffering because he wasn't there when he needed him?

Jason: Vale says I shouldn’t but I do anyway. I hate the idea that because I was born too late, he went through so much suffering, enduring heats with strangers and… Yes. I’d change it all if I could.

3) What was Vale's first reaction to the very public "meeting" of him and Jason?

Vale: I was shocked. Frightened and deeply unsettled. I was suspicious, as well. But, at the same time, deep down I felt calmer than I had in my entire life. Like Jason was a puzzle piece who had clicked into place after years of being missing. I fought that, of course, afraid to trust it. After all I’d been through, how could I not be skeptical?

4) Do alphas who aren't matched up suffer in any tangible way, as omegas do?

Jason: They don’t, no. An unmatched alpha’s suffering, if you can call it that, is more along the lines of envy. They see other alpha and omega pairings, destined mates together, and ache to experience that for themselves. But they don’t have heats to contend with and they don’t require omegas to give them what they need or face physical suffering.

5) Will Vale really write poems about Jason?

Vale: I already have.

Jason: They’re perfect. He’s publishing them soon.

Vale: Jason’s eager for the world to see them.

Jason: Everyone should read Vale’s work. He’s brilliant.

6) Outside of their genetic match, what qualities does Jason have that Vale would admire and respect and vice versa ...

Vale: I admire Jason’s earnestness, his steadfastness, and his utterly filthy mouth when we’re in bed. Sexually he’s shameless, and I love how he revels in it. I also admire his interest in science. He’s a good student and a wonderful friend. He’s got true generosity of spirit. He’s kind. Deeply kind.

Jason: I admire Vale’s resilience. He’s been through a lot and he managed to build a life for himself that he loved and found happiness in. I admire his willingness to open up to me despite everything in his past, and his ability to trust me, even though it was hard for him. I admire his intelligence, his creativity, and his work ethic at the university. And his eyes. I admire his beautiful green eyes. And I’d be lying if I didn’t mention how much I admire his eagerness in sex.

7) Do Vale and Jason hope to try for a baby in the future?

Vale: As much as I’d like to give Jason a child, I don’t see any reason to believe that I could do so.

Jason: I’m happy with Vale. That’s all that matters to me.

8) Do you have any plans to get any more cats?

Vale: Zephyr is far too spoiled to accept another cat in the house.

9) Even though this did have a strong HEA, will we get to see more of Vale and Jason in the future?

Leta: I do have some plans for Jason and Vale in the future. I also have some ideas for one of the side characters in the book. I think he deserves his own story.

Thank you again to Sinfully for hosting me here today! I hope everyone enjoyed Jason and Vale’s interview. They are a fun couple to write and the universe of Slow Heat is one I hope to return to

A lustful young alpha meets his match in an older omega with a past.
Professor Vale Aman has crafted a good life for himself. An unbonded omega in his mid-thirties, he's long since given up hope that he'll meet a compatible alpha, let alone his destined mate. He's fulfilled by his career, his poetry, his cat, and his friends.
When Jason Sabel, a much younger alpha, imprints on Vale in a shocking and public way, longings are ignited that can't be ignored. Fighting their strong sexual urges, Jason and Vale must agree to contract with each other before they can consummate their passion.
But for Vale, being with Jason means giving up his independence and placing his future in the hands of an untested alpha--as well as facing the scars of his own tumultuous past. He isn't sure it's worth it. But Jason isn't giving up his destined mate without a fight.
This is a stand alone gay romance novel, 118,000 words, with a strong happy ending, as well as a well-crafted, non-shifter omegaverse, with alphas, betas, omegas, male pregnancy, heat, and knotting. Content warning for pregnancy loss and aftermath.
