A Word from Layla Reyne
Thank you so much for having me back here at Sinfully to celebrate the release of Cask Strength, the second book in the Agents Irish and Whiskey series. Cask Strength finds Aidan and Jamie continuing to investigate the international terrorist, Renaud, who we met in Single Malt, while also working undercover on a new cybercrimes case. Persons connected to a college basketball team are suspected of running a dark web gambling site that is a front for identity theft. Jamie, uniquely qualified in basketball and hacking, is perfect for the case and poses as an assistant coach, while Aidan, ironically using his native Irish brogue and natural red hair as a disguise, goes in as Jamie’s sports agent to evaluate the suspects.
As with Single Malt, there’s a fair bit of technobabble (shh, don’t tell Jamie I said that!) in Cask Strength. Jamie is a young cyber agent, and as I originally conceived the series, Aidan, a senior field agent, has just as much catching up to do about cyber as Jamie does about field work. Aidan is the reader’s window into the often times confusing cyber world, and in that regard, he’s a lot like me. My background is not in computers, but I live in Silicon Valley, half my social circle works in tech, and my husband, while a scientist, knows more than a little about computers too. Part of the reason I chose to focus on cyber cases was so that I could learn more about the words flying around my head. I researched the FBI’s cyber priorities, read more articles and reports on cybercrimes, plied our cyber security friends with food and booze so they’d explain it all to me in Idiot’s English, then crafted these cases for Irish and Whiskey to solve—a biocontainment breach in Single Malt, a dark web identity theft scheme in Cask Strength, and as you’ll come to read in Barrel Proof, a financial mainframe intrusion. Granted, these are doomsday scenarios in true James Bond OTT fashion, but it sure was fun digging into these topics, coming to understand more of the cyber world I live in, and watching my friends’ heads explode as I spun fantastic yarns out of their worst nightmares. *All the evil cackling*

The heart’s a resilient beast…
Professionally, the FBI team of Aidan "Irish" Talley and Jameson "Whiskey" Walker is as good as it gets, closing cases faster than any team at the Bureau. Personally, it's a different story. Aidan's feelings for Jamie scare the hell out of him: he won't risk losing another love no matter how heart-tripping the intimacy between them. And loss is a grim reality with the terrorist Renaud still on their trail, leaving a pile of bodies in his wake.
Going undercover on a new case gets them out of town and off the killer's radar. They're assigned to investigate an identity theft ring involving a college basketball team in Jamie's home state, where Jamie's past makes him perfect for the role of coach. But returning to the court brings more than old memories.
As secrets and shocking betrayals abound, none may be more dangerous than the one Jamie's been keeping: a secret about the death of Aidan's husband that could blow his partner's world apart and destroy forever the fragile bonds of trust and love building between them.

Meet Layla Reyne
2016 RWA® Golden Heart® Finalist, Layla Reyne, was raised in North Carolina and now calls San Francisco home. She enjoys weaving her bi-coastal experiences into her stories, along with adrenaline fueled suspense and heart pounding romance. When she’s not writing stories to excite her readers, she downloads too many books, watches too much television, and cooks too much food with her scientist husband, much to the delight of their smushed-face, leftover-loving dogs.
