Freya’s Book Brief
The blurb kinda covers this novella’s description. In a small town in England, Owen is murdered. His brother, Navy Captain Mark Hazard and best friend Riley are out for vengeance.
This is a short story told in the third person from Riley’s POV. I can’t say a lot without giving the too much away. So, I’ll say what I can.
The story starts with Owen’s funeral. The author captures the atmosphere with cold, numb accuracy. Riley has information that a local mafia-style family did the deed, and they’re considered untouchable. The family dealt with evidence of Owen’s murder and provided alibi’s; thus, the police couldn’t or wouldn’t do anything.
While reading, there was an air of expectancy, almost dread. The kind you have when something dangerous is going to happen, and you hope it goes to plan. The excellent descriptions provide an air of foreboding, and I couldn’t help but read on.
It is rare to find a story of such length with so much in it, that ticked all my emotional and dramatic boxes. There was the hunky Navy Captain, drama, intimate fire, heart in mouth, and-and-and… more. I don’t think my heart could have taken this story if it was longer. It didn’t disappoint in any area.
Gods of Vengeance is only short, but damn it’s gripping.
