We are thrilled to welcome Kelly Wyre and A.F. Henley here today at Sinfully on their blog tour to celebrate the release of Breaker, book 1 in their new series Exile. Go check it out and don’t forget to enter the Giveaway.
Welcome to the Breaker (Exile, Volume 1) Blog Tour and Giveaway! We're both super excited about this new release and thrilled to be able to share it with you. Throughout this tour, we're going to be introducing many of the characters within, and associated with, Exile's bizarre shores, as well as introducing Exile itself. Then we're going to top that off with a quick little teaser.
However, before we get into any of that we wanted to remind you that we've got a couple of awesome giveaways going along with the tour so be sure to read through to the end to find out how you could win either a Silver-plated Starfish Anklet (just by leaving a single comment!), or the grand prize of a signed, print copy of Breaker, a coordinates bracelet with the Believe. Seek. Prove. reminder so you can always find your way back to the island of Exile, and a $20 gift certificate to the Less Than Three Press book market.
The Character Discussion
Kelly Wyre: I’d like to thank my team, the Academy, and that wonderful Key Grip with the fantastic--
AF Henley: *removes Kelly’s gin & tonic* No. Kelly. Not that speech. Or this blog. We’re doing the NOVEL tour. Remember?
KW: Oh. *sniffs* Well. In that case… I’d like to thank the editors, the proofreaders, and of course, my co-author, who steals my damned liquor.
AFH: Ah, our poor editors. Yes. And, hey – you're American. You pay like, 80% less for liquor than I do. Of COURSE I'm going to steal your liquor.
KW: *starts to retort* *rethinks options* Right. So. OKAY. Today we’re going to talk about Isolde, who is a wonderful character with a great many things… well. Wrong with her, really.
AFH: This poor baby. I love her so much.
KW: Tell us a little about her, then. *steals back drink*
AFH: But like, you want more than that? Isn't the fact that I love her enough?
KW: No. No it’s not. I need more. Just like when I tell you to enumerate all the reasons you love me. The fact that you do isn’t an all-encompassing reason. I need DETAILS. I need ENRICHMENT. I need… To know why you wrote this one, yo!
AFH: Oh God. The pressure. The constant pressure. Well, I thought we needed somebody cute and funny and troubled.
KW: ...so you mean like… all the rest of your characters?
AFH: Hey, you're one to talk, Kelly! At least mine aren't COMPLETELY broken!
KW: Hey - most of mine come with the super glue and duct tape repair kit! Also known as expensive therapy and true love and hope and you know, all that life changing shit.
AFH: Aren't happily-ever-afters awesome: :D
KW: Yes. They absolutely are. *clinks glass*
The Teaser
Eddie offered her a quick wave and a smile. "Shouldn't you be sleeping?" he whispered.
She shook her head. "Slept already. It was a bad day. The suppressors make me tired." Her face brightened. "But I'm good now. Will you play with me?"
Eddie opened his mouth to say that was probably a bad idea, and then had to fight back a grin when he considered what he'd been about to say. A flash fire as a result of spending some time with a lonely kid would be no different than a needle administered by one of the lovely Med Center staff. "I will," he told her. "What are we playing?"
She had several blocks strewn on the bed, and the sight of them made Eddie's stomach clench. They'd been hewn from what appeared to be wood and each one had been painted with bright colors—red, blue, green, yellow. And who had carved them, Eddie wondered. Who had sanded those edges and made sure the colors were so vivid? It was foolish to think it might have been Kaeva. But he did. It was the kind of surprisingly sweet and shockingly adorable thing that Kaeva would do.
He sat down on the end of the cot and the scent of her drifted up from the sheets. It was the same smell of any space that had been occupied by a child for any length of time—somewhat sweet, somewhat dirty, but it also carried the acrid undertones of a fire long gone but not forgotten.
"They're baby toys," Isolde told Eddie, fingering one of the blocks. "But Lake brought them. He said the blocks told him they belonged here today." She leaned closer to Eddie and grinned devilishly. "He's so weird!" She shoved the entire collection of blocks into a pile between the V of her sheet-covered, sprawled legs, turned to Eddie and nodded. "Let's build a pyramid. Like the 'Gyptians had. I like the 'Gyptians. They had cat gods."
Eddie reached for one of the blocks, a small baby blue one that matched Isolde's tunic perfectly. "Okay. Where do we—"
"Not that one!" Isolde snatched the block away and handed him a larger, red one. "That one's too small. You have to put the big ones on the foundation. Lake showed me. He said that the foundation has to be built with the strongest parts."
"Oh," Eddie said, face serious and tone reverent even though he wanted to grin like nobody's business. Talk about your hidden life lesson. "Well, that makes sense."
Isolde nodded. "He's smart. He said that's why the big blocks are red. Just like our hearts."
A great big thank you to Sinfully Gay Romance Book Reviews for hosting us today, and another to you for joining in on the fun. Best of luck with the giveaway and we hope you enjoyed the post!
Until next time,
Kelly Wyre and AF Henley <3

ReplyDeletePoor girl! To be on suppressors to be able to live among others must be awful. I remember how bad it already was for a grown guy like Kaeva.
ReplyDeleteLittle Isolde did not ask for what happened with her and still she managed to live like a kid. At least what we get from this beautiful excerpt.
As sad as Isolde's story is, it is so beautiful that Kaeva did these blocks for her and that Lake is teaching her about the important things in life. I love how much they care for her and it is a wonderful example of how life on Exile is compared to the cruel, selfish world on the mainland.
Thank you both very, very much for this amazing and great blog post tour! It was great fun, wonderful and I always loved your character discussions!
Hopefully we can join you again soon on a new journey! 😃

The world works better when we all support one another. :)
DeleteThank you!
Thank you, my friend. I couldn't agree with you more. The people on Exile support each other not just because they have to, but because they really do care for each other. That tribe lifestyle is unfortunately lost to most of us and I really do believe that we've suffered as a whole because of it.
DeleteIt's been great to have you join us on the tour, as always. Thank YOU! <3
In a land of myth, and a time of magic adults still find it worth their while to play with kids. Not sure I want to read the story now and break up this cute scene with the details. :( I will, of course, because it sounds like such an awesome story. But still, my escapist tendencies are telling me to run.
ReplyDeleteHowever, before I can even think about reading this story I have to watch me some Sleepy Hollow. I don't even follow the plot anymore, just enjoy Crane's accent and personality.
The world works better when we all support one another, young to old and vice versa.
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
*laughs* Well, I do hope you enjoy and I can't thank you enough for staying with us throughout the tour. It was great to have you and I hope you had fun. :D
DeleteGood luck with the giveaway! <3
I really want to read this!
ReplyDeleteleetee2007(at)hotmail(dot)com
Wonderful! Thank you and good luck in the giveaway!
DeleteThank you, Lee! I'm glad we've piqued your interest. :D
DeleteBest of luck and it was a pleasure to have you on the tour! <3
Aww, I need to know more. At least Isolde isn't alone and sounds like she has some great men to look after her!
ReplyDeleteTanyamarieward@hotmail(dot) com
Isolde is in good hands. :)
DeleteThank you!
Isolde has men, women, and pretty much the whole island looking out for her, we promise. :D
DeleteI'm so glad we've managed to whet your appetite! Thank you very much for joining us and I wish you all the best luck with the giveaway. <3
I finished reading it and this particular scene had given me chills (which is a very good sign when I'm reading or watching anything) & had made me clutch my heart. There was so much enlightenment in this scene. And wasn't Isolde a cute adorable little girl? An adult living in a child's body. There's so much maturity behind her naivety.
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love, love, love this novel. The last three chapters blew my mind. The vision, Eddie's epiphany, the revelations, the mindblowing affection Kaeva & Eddie have for each other stunned me on so many levels.
THANK YOU KEL & HENLEY!
I admit that this is the first novel of you guys that I've read (and definitely won't be the last) and I enjoyed it so much!
Thanks for doing this blog tour! And I can't wait for the sequel. ;)
Thank YOU, James, for all your support during the tour! Lovely to meet you.
DeleteOh, wow! Thank you very much. :D
DeleteIt was our pleasure, really. Great to meet you, I'm thrilled you enjoyed the tour, and I'm absolutely pumped that you enjoyed the novel. I wish you the best of luck with the giveaway and thank you for staying with us throughout the tour. <3
The teaser's really sweet and put a smile on my face :)
ReplyDeleteIsolde being so determined with how the pyramid should be built reminds me of the kids (at my work) at after-school-daycare (or whatever I should call it) or just on some breaks during the school day, how they usually knows exactly how something should be done during playing or gaming - and the looks I sometimes get, when I try to do something "the wrong" way, that nearly screams "are you even thinking?". It's pretty adorable.
And I love to read The Character Discussions, they're very interesting and fun :)
That is awesome, thank you so much! You have to love how fierce kids can be. :D
DeleteGlad you enjoyed and we're thrilled to have you on the tour! Good luck with the giveaway! <3
