We are thrilled to welcome Michaela Grey to Sinfully Today as she celebrates the upcoming release of Broken Halo. Go check it out!
Thank you so much for having me on your lovely blog! I’m here today to talk about Broken Halo, a book I’m very excited about.
Broken Halo is the story of Micah Ellis, a neurotic germaphobe who thinks he has his life under control. Enter one Devon Mallory, a mechanic with engine grease under his nails and a forceful personality that shakes Micah to his core. He doesn’t know what to think, except that he can’t get Devon’s bright blue eyes out of his mind.
This book explores the theme of learning to love oneself, as well as challenging the belief that BDSM is inherently “dirty” or “wrong”. Micah’s journey is intensely personal but one I think many of us can relate to.
He was in hell again. But it wasn’t dirt that surrounded him this time. It was millions of gallons of water and screaming children on all sides.
In theory Micah had nothing against kids. He even, distantly, wouldn’t mind having one or two of his own, if he ever got his neuroses under control. But they were tiny walking germ factories, and every time one dashed past him, he flinched.
Was it a school holiday or a field trip? He neither knew nor cared. But if he didn’t leave soon, he was going to have a full-blown panic attack in the middle of the fucking aquarium and probably scar more than one child for life in the process.
Micah’s breathing sped up as he suddenly realized he couldn’t see Devon. Where had he gone? Had he seriously left Micah to deal with this all by himself? Micah gritted his teeth and started backing for the exit.
Devon settled his hands on Micah’s shoulders, and Micah took a shaky breath of relief and relaxed into Devon’s body.
“Easy,” Devon murmured. “Sorry, sweetheart. I stopped to look at the seahorses. You’re safe. I’m here.” His breath was warm against Micah’s ear, and Micah closed his eyes and swallowed hard.
A child shrieked nearby, and Micah flinched again. Devon tightened his hands, and they began moving, walking toward the wall. They didn’t stop until Micah was nearly up against the glass, and then Devon wrapped his big coat around him and cocooned Micah in a Devon-sweet warmth.
“Look,” Devon said quietly and pointed with his free hand. “See the manta ray?”
Micah looked where he was pointing, his head against Devon’s solid chest as he watched the huge black fish with white spots undulate through the blue water in no particular hurry.
“Keep watching him,” Devon said. “Don’t think about anything except that ray. Just… watch him swim and let me hold you. Can you do that?”
Micah nodded almost dreamily, and Devon curved his arms around him. He narrated various aquarium facts into his ear as Micah watched the manta ray float around the tank. He found a button on the placket of Devon’s coat and absently felt the ridges with his thumb as his mind drifted and calm began to fill him again.
He had no idea how much time passed before Devon let go and he stepped back. Micah glanced around and came back to himself. The kids were gone, and they were alone in the room. Devon smiled.
“Feel any better?”
Micah nodded, stunned. He’d never even noticed the children leaving. “How… how did you do that?” he croaked. “I was about to have a full-on meltdown, and you… stopped it.”
“You stopped it,” Devon corrected. “I just helped. A little. Ready for lunch?”

Meet Michaela Grey
Michaela Grey lives and writes in the Texas hill country. Her hobbies include knitting, analyzing her favorite TV shows, and experiencing intense feelings over fictional characters. Michaela Grey told stories to put herself to sleep since she was old enough to hold a conversation in her head. When she learned to write, she began putting those stories down on paper. She and her family reside in the Texas hill country with their cats, and she is perpetually on the hunt for peaceful writing time, which her four children make difficult to find. When she’s not writing, she’s knitting while watching TV or avoiding responsibilities on Tumblr, where she shamelessly ogles pretty people and tries to keep her cat off the keyboard.
