Series: Foster Puppies #2
"This puppy was supposed to keep me company, but I feel lonelier than ever."
Ludlow doesn’t have a stick up his ass… and if he does, it’s for good reason. The defense lawyer is trying to make partner, and he doesn’t have time for much else. None of the items on his five -year plans involve a hot one-night stand with an obnoxious traveler… so why is he doing this, again?
"You act like you've never been propositioned by a complete stranger before."
Newbank, New York isn’t the type of place Richard ever intended to visit. A permanent wanderer, he prefers big cities or wild music festivals. But when a cancelled flight lands the free spirit in this boring town for the night, he still intends to find a hot hook-up. The straight-laced lawyer he meets at the bar has a certain novel appeal - plus pictures of an adorable beagle-corgi mix.
“I kind of like ‘vagrant lunatic’ as a pet name.”
Who cares if they have nothing in common? It's just for one night. But when these complete opposites find a startling passion in each other’s arms, everything they thought they knew is called into question. Can Richard find a reason to stay in Newbank? And if he does, will Ludlow fit him into his long-term plans?
(Vagabond is the second book of the Foster Puppies gay romance series. This 200-page novel is a sexy, suspenseful thrill ride. It has a happily ever after ending and can be enjoyed as a standalone or as part of the collection.)
Ludlow led the way out of the elevator. “God, you’re obnoxious. Tell me again why I’m doing this.”
“Because I’m sexy,” I supplied. “And you’re a little tipsy, and it seemed like a good idea at the time.”
“Fuck.” He unlocked his door.
“Because you never do this kind of thing, and even you feel the need to get the stick out of your ass.”
“The stick out of my — ?” he sputtered.
His place was as nice as the lobby, modern yet classic. The coffee table was black metal and glass, while the sofa was well-worn old plush. An odd mismatch, as if Ludlow hadn’t had the time to look for pieces that worked well together.
“Come on, I can’t be the first person to point it out,” I said, taking the opportunity to cup said ass. It was a nice one, too — high and tight. “Maybe if you had a real stick up there more often, the imaginary one would go away. Or do you prefer the other way around? I’m good with anything, but you’re definitely giving me a bottom vibe.”
He stared at me, speechless. His eyes were level with mine, and I used this moment to appreciate their dark expressiveness. His lips, full and pink, parted slightly — maybe because my hand was still on his ass. His suit was still damp, which couldn’t be comfortable.
I shrugged off my backpack as I waited for his response. When it became clear he wasn’t going to find words, I switched gears. “You tell me, then. Why are you doing this?”
“I have no goddamn clue.” He pressed his lips together. “I suppose because it’s been a while and the opportunity doesn’t present itself that often. Why with a boorish drunkard in a T-shirt promoting cheap whiskey, on the other hand? That’s one of those mysteries that will forever remain unresolved.”
Boorish drunkard? I would’ve walked out on the guy if I hadn’t been so turned on by him. Grabbing him around the waist, I hoisted him onto the counter. Dishes clattered around us. “You’ll pay for calling me that.”
The look he gave me was a challenge. “Oh? What are you going to do to me?”
