We are thrilled to welcome J.T. Hall to Sinfully as she celebrates the release of her latest book Murder Once Seen.
A “Day in the life” of One of My Characters
Here is a typical “day in the life” of Derwin, one of the main characters in Murder Once Seen, before the novel takes place (but after Chapter One). Besides hunting fugitives for Bob, Derwin is also a skilled demon hunter. Enjoy!
Derwin Bryant, aged 32, bond enforcement agent.
6:00 a.m. Wake to blaring alarm, jog to gym and work out for an hour.
7:30 a.m. Drink two cups of coffee and eat a couple protein bars. Head to Bob’s Bail Bonds.
8:30 a.m. Get the day’s list of bail skippers or notices of demon sightings from Connie. Plan the day’s activities, starting with phone calls and computer searches. Whine at Connie for help with the computer searches.
10:30 a.m. Hit the road in the old muscle car based on intel gathered.
11:30 a.m. – 4:30 p. m. Hunt. Maybe grab lunch sometime, depending on hunt. Turn in fugitives to police.
4:45 p.m. Check in with Bob and Connie and decide whether to continue hunting into the evening. Have lunch if it was missed earlier.
5:30 p.m. Go home to feed Colonel Bickering. Pet his grumpy-ass until he purrs and try to remember to brush him so that he doesn’t shed fur everywhere. Mentally thank mother for sending the cat. Grumpy or not, he’s company.
6:30 p.m. Head back out once it’s dark for any demon hunting on the agenda. Otherwise jog to keep fit and pass the time. Avoid thinking about Grady.
8:00 to 10:00 p.m. (Time varies) Grab dinner somewhere, or if bored, try to cook. Emphasis on “try.” Take shower and dress for bed.
10:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Watch TV until exhausted enough so that there won’t be hours spent lying in bed in the silent darkness.
12:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. Sleep restlessly. Try to face another day alone.

In the city of Nis, things often aren’t what they seem.
Derwin is a bounty hunter gifted with the Oddity of superhuman strength and agility—perfect for hunting down fugitives and demons who roam the streets. One killed his boyfriend two years ago, and Derwin won’t stop until he finds out who. Police suspect it was someone he sent to prison, but he can’t shake the idea that they’re missing something.
Elliot is a rentboy who’s been living on the streets since his parents disowned him. He mistrusts everyone and, given his uncontrolled ability to Read Objects and a client list that includes a major gang boss, despairs of ever having a normal life.
Derwin and Elliot meet in a storm of lust. Derwin’s Oddity is fed by the pain of others, but he only wants what’s freely given. Elliot loves pain, but needs safety and a way off the streets before he can allow it. They may be able to solve each other’s problems . . . if they can survive long enough to work together.
