We all have tragic backstories in today's world.

I wake up chained to the wall of a dark cell aware of two things: I failed my sister, and I smell my enemy.
When I’m taken to meet Dare, the alpha of the Silver Tip pack, I’m sure I’m about to lose my throat. The last thing I expect is for the Alpha to recognize me as his fated mate. No way is he going to let me go now, and I still have to find a way to rescue my sister.

As I plot my escape to save her, I find that if I leave, Dare could be killed by power-hungry members of his pack. And now he’s more to me than my fated mate—my heart is involved. With time ticking by on my sister’s life, I have to make a choice I never thought I’d face—my sister’s life or my mate’s? That’s if I can survive the undead shifters intent on killing me first...

Lisa’s Review

Daring Fate is the first book in Megan Erickson’s new series entitled Silver Tip Pack. This was a sexy and edgy dystopian tale that had me engrossed right from the very first page. The paranormal world this author has created is distinct and unique. With an action-packed plot line, a red-hot romance and two seriously sexy wolf-men, this book had it all.

In this daunting new world, humans were decimated by a virus more than a century before. The survivors of the catastrophic annihilation of the population are werewolves, weres and noweres. Both the werewolves and weres are able to shift into wolf forms. The weres can also take on a third form which is a giant upright wolf/ human hybrid. Noweres are undead weres who roam the earth in packs feeding from and infecting other weres and killing werewolves. While the werewolves and weres both see the noweres as their common enemy, they do not really interact with each other. Both shifter groups live with their own kind in packs, keeping themselves within walled communities as protection from the noweres. So, what would happen if a werewolf and a were discover that they are true mates?

Reese is a werewolf who has finally managed to escape from a werewolf pack where his family sought refuge fifteen years prior. What his family did not count on was the pack alpha being a cruel and sadist bastard. Reese’s escape did not go as planned and he is able to escape with his younger brother but is caught and beaten when he goes back for his sister. Left as nowere bait, Reese and his brother are taken in by the Silver Tip Pack, a nearby were pack who is led by a powerful alpha named Dare. Reese and his brother are at the mercy of the Silver Tip Pack and have no idea what will become of them. The last thing Reese expects is for the very gorgeous and stoic alpha to recognize him as his true fated mate. How is he going to escape and rescue his sister now?

Dare is a powerful and commanding alpha who takes his duty as the leader very seriously. He understands his pack depends on him and that is a responsibility that he does not take lightly. When Reese comes along, Dare is forced to think of something (rather, someone) outside of his alpha role. As Reese and Dare slowly navigate the beginnings of their tentative relationship, the hot burning sexual attraction is immediate but it takes time for their hearts to become involved. With some problematic weres in Dare’s pack plus the fact that Reese is plotting to leave to go after his sister, are both shifters doomed before they even have a real chance to get started?

This book was hot as hell. Gah! It has some pretty raw and gritty sex. You get passion, steam and loads of animalistic orgasm-inducing sex that will leave you squirming. With all this being said, you also get loads of heart. Yes, the sexy duo do get down and dirty but their relationship is all sorts of beautiful as it comes to fruition. Reese and Dare organically flowed into something that we all want in our lives – love and acceptance. That is definitely the heart of the matter.

Told in dual POVs, the overall story arc is intriguing and intense. Ms. Erickson has also written some amazing secondary characters that I loved getting to know. At the heart of it all was the budding relationship between Dare and Reese. I loved watching them learn about each other and discover that the fated mate bond is very real and all-consuming. I was rooting for our two protagonists right from the start. Sacrifices were made by both men as they slowly fell in love with one another and realized exactly what finding your home is really about.

All in all, Daring Fate is an excellent start to what I think will be a pretty fantastic paranormal series. I am very excited for more and am certainly looking forward to the next book! Highly recommended.
