I'm often asked where my inspiration for stories comes from. Most times I can pin point the exact moment, like eating an ice cream by Ryde Pier in the Isle of Wight, or reading about an LGBT child thrown out by their parents. A scene is just there – in my head – and the voices won’t let go until their tale is told.
Morning My Angel was one of those. I had a greeting and one scene, in this instance the beginning, plus a very noisy MC. I used to have a friend who greeted me every morning as I logged on, “Morning, angel.” That friendship ended badly, but a new book was born. Something good came out of a messy situation.
I’m never short of ideas for stories. I try to write down the scenes as I think of them, even if they take years to reach completion. Hairy Harry’s Car Seat was like that. I had the first scene tucked away in my WIP file for over a year, maybe longer. The actual story took me two weeks to write, but I had to wait to get the rest of the story in my head. My stories brew like a good malt whiskey, waiting for just the right moment to be tapped.
I have about fifteen scenes waiting for their moment in the sun. I’ve made 2017 the year of the WIP. Time to finish some of the older ones. This is the theory. In practice I’ll write another ten scenes and my WIP file will increase, but that’s what makes it exciting. I can’t wait to see where my imagination leads me next.
