Hello all! Thank you so much for joining us here at Sinfully to celebrate the release of Smoke & Mirrors, Book 7 in the THIRDS series! This week we also celebrate the THIRDS 2 Year Anniversary of the THIRDS. So I thought it would be fun to have a rundown of what’s happened so far and key moments in the lives of our Destructive Delta crew.

Book 1 Hell & High Water

We’re introduced to Cheesy-Doodle-crunching, eighties-song-singing, gummy-bear-munching nut Dexter J. Daley. Dex is having a bad day. A really bad day. He gets beat up, dumped, later gets beat up some more. Did I mention he gets beat up? Dex joins the THIRDS where he meets his new team Destructive Delta. He crashes into his new Team Leader’s life—literally. Enter sexy, brooding jaguar Therian Sloane Brodie. There’s snacking, explosions, big scary Felids with sharp claws and fangs, chases, more explosions, sexy times [insert sexy music here], more explosions (These guys blow things up a lot), torture via cheesy eighties music, there’s a lion puppet—don’t ask. Shenanigans.

Quote: Dex lowered his voice, growling as his fingers moved the puppet’s little paws. “Hi, I’m Ash. My hobbies include shooting things, shooting things, and uh, shooting things. Oh and I like fish.”

Book 2 Blood & Thunder

More shenanigans, and more explosions (you should come to expect this by now). Dex and Sloane sexy times. Plot, plot, plot. Bad guys. Dex singing karaoke. Oh, no! Hobbs! Wait, did that just happen? Narnia. Ooh, Journey. The Waking Dead—it’s totally a thing. Aw, sweet Cael. We’re introduced to Sebastian and Rafe Hobbs. Maybe Ash isn’t such a jerkface after all. Sloane steps up. We now have Team Sexy Pants. Did you really think I was going to give you spoilers?

Quote: “Threat Level Fuchsia. Fuchsia!”

Book 3 Rack & Ruin

We’re introduced to Austen Payne, cheeky cheetah Therian extraordinaire. The jig is up! Dex and Sloane being stupidly cute together. Plot, plot, plot. Pay attention because that’ll be important later. New kids on the block. Not the band, just new players. Oh, no!! Evil author being evil. Yep, I went there. Muahaha. Mother of all cliffhangers. Good thing book 4 is already out.

Quote: Ash went over to the closet, and Sloane maintained his stoic expression. There was no way Dex would be hiding in the closet. It was too obvious. Ash opened the door, looking unimpressed. “There’s a fuckwit naked in your closet.”

Dex looked up at Ash with wide eyes. “This isn’t what it looks like. I dropped some change, it rolled under the closet door, and when I went to pick it up, my clothes fell off. True story.”

Book 4 Rise & Fall

Or A.K.A Dex turns to the dark side. No one messes with his boo and gets away with it. Destructive Delta pulled off the case which is Dex speak for Do the Thing. Dex is on the hunt. Gummy bears and grenade launchers. Beck Hogan is a crafty bastard. Dex, you got some ‘splainin’ to do. White leather assless chaps, and Def Leppard (yeah, you don’t want to miss that). Aw, Seb and Hudson feels. Grumpy jaguar Therian partner becomes super grumpy jaguar with sharp claws. Don’t get eaten, Dex! Ash to save the day. Oh, Ash. He just got pushed down the stairs. Look at that mane. So majestic. Sloane lets it all out—emotionally that is (you dirty birdy). Oh, no! Chirpy! Ash is pissed. Everyone stand back. Things about to get real. Old Betsy.

Quote: “Sometimes you find that one person, and you just know. And even if you don’t love them right away, you know you will. It’s just a matter of time. Because no one you’ve ever known has come close to making you feel the way they do. It keeps you up at night and drives you fucking crazy, but you pray to God the feeling never goes away no matter how much it’s killing you.”

Book 5 Against the Grain

Ash and Chirpy—I mean Cael. Family holiday shenanigans. This book should have been called Ash’s Angst. The biggest jerkface of all the jerkfaces shows up. Something fishy is going on. Sloane recovering. Feels. Sexy Times. Feels. Oh, no! Explosions (did you really think I’d leave that out?), Run Dex, run! Cael, get that cute butt moving. Shooting. Austen. Mystery. Someone’s being sneaky. Holy Hell, Sparks? What just happened? Ash kicking butt. Cael kicking all the butt. Special training. Dum, dum, dum! Enter TIN.

Quote: He’d never admit it, but he counted Dex among his family. Sort of like the annoying brother-in-law. You’re happy he’s making your bro happy, but damn, sometimes you just wanted to punch him in his stupid smiley face. Who the hell smiled that much, anyway? A crazy person, that’s who.

Book 6 Catch a Tiger by the Tail

Aw, Calvin and Ethan. Big chase. Run, Cal! Yay, Ethan! Snow angels. Cal and Ethan’s complicated-not so complicated relationship. Best friends forever. Moving day! Ethan playing chaperone to Dex and Sloane (yeah, good luck with that, buddy). Training. Grumpy Ethan. Jealous Ethan. Cael, coffee, bubble wrap, The Spice Girls. Big Felids and big boxes. Sweet Ethan. Sexy times. Awkward team moment. Shibari. Poor Hobbs. Danger. Plot, plot, plot. Family moments. More Seb and Hudson feels. No, Hudson!! More feels. Calvin receives a call. Yep, I totally went there. *gasp* Dex! Nooooo! Well, what do you know? Book 7 is out today.

Quote: “No, you know what? If there’s no sexy times for me and Sloane, then none of you are getting any either.” Dex jumped on the couch and addressed the room, pointing to everyone one by one, starting with Ethan. “No sexy times for you.” Then Calvin. “None for you.” He pointed to Ash. “None for you.” He pointed at Cael. “Definitely none for you.” He ignored Cael rolling his eyes and moved to Sloane. “Sorry, babe, none for you either. We’re all chaste until moving is over.”

Ash let out a laugh. “You and Sloane, chaste? That’s the funniest shit I’ve heard all year!”

And now we’ve reached book 7, Smoke & Mirrors where all the plot comes together, questions are answered, mysteries revealed. Lots of feels, sexy times, no explosions but I make up for it in other ways. Action, adventure, romance, and all the Dex and Sloane love.

Synopsis

Sequel to Catch a Tiger by the Tail
THIRDS: Book Seven
Life for Dexter J. Daley has never been easy, but he’s always found a way to pick himself back up with a smile on his face. Taken from his home and the arms of Sloane Brodie, his boyfriend and THIRDS partner, Dex finds himself in a situation as mysterious and lethal as the Therian interrogating him. Dex learns what he’s secretly believed all along: his parents’ death wasn’t an accident.
Discovering the whole truth about John and Gina Daley’s homicide sets off a series of events that will change Dex and Sloane’s life forever. As buried secrets rise to the surface and new truths are revealed, Dex and Sloane’s love for each other is put to the test, with more than their relationship on the line. If traversing the waters of murder and secret government agencies wasn’t enough, something inexplicable has been happening to Dex—and nothing will ever be the same.

  1. The book I've been anticipating most in the second half of this year is Smoke & Mirror, of course! I've been a bit disappointed with the previous two books, so I'm glad we are back to Dex and Sloane as MCs in this book. I am just overflowing with anticipation. I hope this book is awesome! I can't wait to read this!

  2. I'm looking anxiously waiting for the release of JL Merrow's Blow Down and Jordan L. Hawk's Fallow respectively mid July and early August bof course I haven't read Catch A Tiger By The Tail, so I probably have to finish that first before grabbing Smoke and Mirrors. I'm curious on how the new series with Dex/Sloane will go though. That, I'd like to see. :)
