Hello!! Thank you Sinfully for letting us stop by! We’ve got an exclusive, never before scene with Spencer and his brother Ross for you to read today. We hope you enjoy and pick up Evan’s Luck!
Spencer stood and wiped his brow before dusting off the seat of his jeans. Bucked off again.
“Give a round of applause, ladies and gentlemen. Takes a lot to get up from a fall like that. Those horses are nothing to mess with. Spencer Quinn, folks.”
The crowd roared and clapping ensued. Spencer put on his best fake smile and snatched his hat off the dirt before making his way out of the arena. His whole body ached. His legs would be on fire tomorrow morning. Right then, he wanted to fall into a bed of ice and not wake up for at least two or three days.
One more week before the end of the rodeo season. Then it was time to get ready for college. A new adventure he couldn’t wait to get in on. No more getting bucked off. Soon enough he’d be prepping the horses to buck off other cowboys.
“Put your hands together for our next rider, Evan Taylor. Evan’s top of the high school rankings right now and headed for the National High School Rodeo finals in a couple of weeks. He’s on the back of Shadow Rain today. Let’s see how he does.”
Spencer cringed at Evan’s name. Freaking ladies’ man. He wasn’t worried about college. According to Ross, Spencer’s brother, Evan planned to make a career out of rodeo. No surprise with his dad’s reputation.
“Stick around and watch, man. Just cuz you fell off again doesn’t mean you need to run away.” Ross grabbed him by the shirt sleeve and pulled Spencer to a stop.
“Why do you torture me? I have no interest in watching the playboy ride another horse and have all the bunnies swoon after him.”
Hopefully if I keep saying that, one of these days I’ll convince myself. Unfortunately, the buckle bunnies weren’t the only ones attracted to Evan Taylor. Lucky for Spencer, Ross and Evan were riding partners. They went to all the events. Hung out at the house together. If they’d gone to the same high school Spencer was certain he’d have seen the guy on a daily basis. Thank God for small wins. As it went, he had a hard time keeping his attraction locked up tight.
Ross laughed so hard he damn near fell off the fence he’d been watching from. “You don’t have to hide from me, baby brother. I know you don’t hate him as much as you say you do. It’s okay, though. I’ll keep your secret. Besides, you deserve better than Taylor.”
“Sorry to say, Ross. But your friend doesn’t exactly have his life together. Not sure anyone is going to land him any time soon. Or at all for that matter. I’m thinking his future is ripe with buckle bunnies and shotty motel rooms along the circuit.”
His brother chuckled and shrugged. “Never know what life’ll throw his way. Who knows, maybe one day the two of you will run into each other again and things will be different.”
“I won’t hold my breath,” he whispered, hoping Ross hadn’t actually heard him.
