We are delighted to welcome Charley Descoteaux to Sinfully today as she celebrates the release of Tiny House, the third book in the Buchanan House series.
Hello all! I’m thrilled to visit Sinfully to share an exclusive excerpt of my newest release Tiny House! I find a lot of my favorite reads here and it’s a little unreal to be the guest!
When I wrote Buchanan House I hadn’t planned on making it a series. I thought it would be fun to write a series, but wasn’t sure how to make it happen. Thankfully, my characters knew what I didn’t! Nathan in particular spoke up so clearly I just had to give him his own story. And then someone else picked up where he left off, and over a year later I’m still writing in that world and having a blast!
One thing I worried about while I thought about how in the world to write a series, was that the books would be too similar and readers might be bored. I want you to feel things when you read my books, but bored isn’t on that list!
In book #1, Buchanan House, Eric gets his HEA through a chance meeting. Nathan and Eric are very different despite being BFFs since they were kids, so his story had to reflect that. Nathan might be the hostess with the mostest and friendly to everyone, but he isn’t the most trusting guy. He is, however, very loyal—especially to one special friend.
The Buchanan House series includes two chance meetings (book one and the free short “Pride Weekend”), and a friends-to-lovers story in Tiny House. I have more fun Romance tropes planned in the series, but would love to hear what your favorites are! Stick around after the excerpt to chat about them and you’ll be entered to win an ebook copy of Buchanan House, the first book in the series!
But first, here’s an exclusive excerpt just for Sinfully readers! I thought it would be fun to share from Nathan’s special friend.
Paulie knew it was wrong, but he did it anyway. He knew he shouldn’t give in to the temptation, to the desire, but he was just tipsy enough to be unable to convince himself to stop. He had at least two good reasons to give Nathan a quick peck on the forehead, grab the pillow from his bed, and sleep on the other side of the room. The first was Nathan was far too drunk to give his consent to anything. The second was Ryan.
That should be the other way around, shouldn’t it?
Should. Paulie always did what he should do, or at least what he thought he should do. He was raised to be a practical man, to consider the potential consequences before acting or speaking. And look where all that lofty shit had gotten him. Alone in a two-bedroom apartment in the Pearl. Sure, it was a nice building in a trendy area, but nice and trendy didn’t keep him warm at night. Not during the day either.
Part of Paulie hated himself, even as he stroked Nathan’s cheek. He shouldn’t be touching him this way. Nathan needed someone to take care of him, to talk him out of his crazier ideas and away from the booze. He needed someone…. Someone who wasn’t a cheater, someone who could offer as good as they got from Nathan.
That guy—the guy who is Nathan’s equal?—he doesn’t exist.
Paulie slid the backs of his fingers across Nathan’s soft cheek, then brushed a few silky strands of golden hair away from his gorgeous face. Paulie leaned closer, the intent to place a gentle kiss on Nathan’s forehead loud in his mind. The kiss would let Nathan know he wasn’t alone. He could handle almost anything—and do so with style, grace, and class to boot—but not that, not being alone. Paulie changed trajectory without having made a conscious decision to do so, his tender feelings taking charge and bringing his lips to Nathan’s.
After a few tense seconds, Nathan relaxed. He relaxed so hard, almost as though he’d passed out. It was a dozen kinds of wrong, but Paulie didn’t stop. He couldn’t make himself. When Nathan sighed and drew his fingertips along Paulie’s jaw, his heart soared. Still gentle, Paulie increased the intensity of the kiss. They sighed together, Nathan’s mouth opening just enough to be an invitation. For another few seconds, they kissed like lovers. Soft. Sweet.
It broke Paulie’s heart.
Paulie wasn’t sure exactly when Nathan slipped away, but as soon as he realized, he stopped. He pulled back and gazed at the amazing man beside him. The pain in his chest didn’t erase the joy he felt at the sight of Nathan’s full lips, plumped from the kiss and curved slightly into a smile.
When Paulie settled on the bed beside Nathan, he told himself you don’t leave a passed-out friend alone. You don’t have to pull their head onto your shoulder and hold them while they sleep, but there’s no law that says you can’t.

Buchanan House: Book Three
Pride weekend is over, but for Nathan Lucas, the summer is just heating up. He appears to have it all. He’s tall and blond, ripped and handsome, and half owner of Buchanan House, a successful gay retreat on Oregon’s beautiful central coast. But his joie de vivre hides a fear of abandonment. When he was twelve, his mother had triplets, and instead of the cherished only child, Nathan became a scapegoat for his exhausted parents, and he has never truly dealt with that pain.
Portland chef Paulie Nesbitt is head over heels in love with Nathan. They’ve been drinking buddies with benefits for years, while Paulie has not-so-secretly yearned for more. Paulie’s extra pounds and self-doubt have kept him from acting on his feelings. Their friends know they would make the perfect couple, but Nathan and Paulie will have to let go of past insecurities if they want a future together.

Buchanan House: Book Two
Overworked cubicle jockey Adam Byron wants to attend Oregon Coast Pride in style but the price of a room at Buchanan House, a popular gay retreat on the central coast, is beyond his budget. So he won’t miss out, he advertises online for someone to share expenses. Corporate drone Silas Grant responds to Adam’s ad, and the two get to know each other via texts before meeting at the coast. They agree on a no-pressure roommate arrangement, yet once they meet face-to-face, their attraction is undeniable. Desire might simmer well beyond Pride weekend, no matter how hard Adam and Silas try to live up to their noncommitment pact.
Meet Charley Descoteaux
Charley Descoteaux has always heard voices. She was relieved to learn they were fictional characters, and started writing when they insisted daydreaming just wasn’t good enough. In exchange, they’ve agreed to let her sleep once in a while. Charley grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area during a drought, and found her true home in the soggy Pacific Northwest. She has survived earthquakes, tornadoes, and floods, but couldn’t make it through one day without stories. e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org
