Jase Rafferty grew up hiding his sexual curiosities—until he meets Bryan Keating. Bryan’s sexual preference is no secret, and being deployed overseas together allows the two men to forge a solid friendship. The sexual attraction is undeniable, but after one lust-filled week, they must go their separate ways.
A year later, a chance meeting gives them one more weekend together, even though they know Jase can’t risk his military career or his family obligations to be with Bryan.
Several years pass before Jase finally accepts the desperate longing in his heart and body. But when fear and hatred threaten to tear them apart, Jase must make a tough decision, one that he isn’t sure he and Bryan can overcome. Together, they must choose to weather the storm or say goodbye forever.
Molly’s Book Brief
Bryan Keating comes home for the first time since leaving the military for a friend's wedding and runs into his former best friend/ex-lover whom he hasn’t seen in over a year. If you haven't read the short story, Bryan and Jase,The Beginning, you should read that one first. This story stands alone, but you'll have the background of their relationship and their time together in the military and how closeted Jase is because of his wife and family.
Something About Him begins with Bryan returning to his hometown and seeing Jase for the first time since their week-long tryst before leaving each other a year ago, but he's not alone. He's with his baby and wife, a gold digging, cheating bitch. And, she knows about Bryan and Jase’s indiscretions in the military. I love a good villain, and she's pretty good.
Bryan and Jase are just so good together, and Bryan immediately bonds with the baby. But, a weekend together is all they get, before Jase leaves again. After a few months, Jase breaks all contact and Bryan doesn't hear from him for five years.
I usually hate long time apart stories, but this worked. After five years, Jase is free from the witch, and he moves his five-year-old son to Indiana to find Bryan, which he does at a gaming convention, which was so romantic. They have a promise of a happy ending, until Jase's homophobic father finds out about his relationship with Bryan, and we thought his wife was horrible? She's got nothing on this guy.
But these two are destined to be together. Sure, they have obstacles to overcome, like Bryan’s ex-lover lurking in the background, Bryan’s status to instant parent, finding romantic times with a five-year-old in the picture, and the child having to deal with bullies because he has two dads. And that’s just the fun stuff. Add in the father from hell and you’ve got an adventure.
This was such an enjoyable read. It wasn’t too angsty, and there were some precarious moments, but you can’t help but root for this make-shift family to find their happy ever after.
This is a definite must read for anyone who enjoys star-crossed lovers who beat the odds, hot military guys and adorable well-adjusted kids.
