We are so excited to have Dex with us today as he interviews the stars of Charlie Cochet’s latest book Catch a Tiger by the Tail, the sixth book in the fabulous THIRDS series.
Hello all! Thank you so much for joining me here today for the Catch a Tiger by the Tail blog tour celebrating the release of the 6th book in the THIRDS series!
Today we have a special treat. Calvin Summers and Ethan Hobbs have agreed to an interview. Their very first one. Special preparations have been made for Ethan’s comfort. Since Ethan won’t be able to speak in front of us due to his Selective Mutism, he’ll be communicating to Calvin who’ll be answering for him. The interview will be conducted by Dex, since we can’t seem to find Seb for some strange reason, and Ethan’s comfortable around Dex. Ethan’s been made aware to the change in interviewers, and Dex should have notified Calvin. Now, take it away Dex.
Dex: Welcome folks! Dexter J. Daley here. In just a few moments our guests will arrive. Before they do, I just gotta say, it’s an honor to be interviewing these two fine gentlemen. Well, Hobbs is a gentleman. Calvin’s the one you have to watch out for. It’s always the quiet ones, you know. Ah, look who it is.
Calvin: [Stops suddenly and stares at Dex] What are you doing here?
Ethan: [Smiles cheerfully and waves]
Dex: Hey, big guy! Come in, take a seat. Cal, did I not mention I was doing the interview?
Calvin: [Warily takes a seat on the couch across Dex] No, you didn’t.
Dex: Darn, must have slipped my mind. It was all so last minute, and you know, things moving, stuff happening. Scheduling. All kinds of crazy happening.
Calvin: You’re rambling. Wait. [Turns to frown at Ethan sitting next to him testing the fluffiness of the couch cushions] Did you know about this?
Ethan: [Stops and looks up innocently. He points to himself]
Calvin: Yes, you. Don’t give me that face. You knew about this didn’t you?
Ethan: [Coughs into his hand before looking away]
Calvin: Unbelievable. [Turns back to Dex, eyes narrowed] Where’s Seb?
Dex: Don’t know. Maybe he took a nap and overslept? Anyway, why don’t we get on with the interview.
Calvin: [Mumbles something under his breath] Fine, but you better stick to Seb’s questions.
Dex: Great! How about we start with you, Cal. It says here [Pretends to read from the questions on his tablet] that you’re interested in Shibari. Tell us about that.
Ethan: [Bursts into laughter as Calvin shoots up from his seat]
Calvin: It does not say that there! [Tries to wrestle Dex’s tablet away from him]
Dex: It does so. [Smacks Calvin’s hands away]
Calvin: [Glares at Dex]
Dex: Okay, maybe I’m paraphrasing.
Calvin: Or making it up. Stick to the real questions or so help me I’ll snipe you.
Dex: Fine. Maybe. Okay, Cal. You and Hobbs have been partners on Destructive Delta for years. What’s it like being partners with your best friend?
Calvin: I won’t lie. It’s been a challenge. On the one hand, we’ve known each other so long we often know how the other is going to react to something. It takes less communication because we’re on the same page most of the time. We get each other. On the other hand, it’s tough when you’re out in the field and the person you care most about is right there with you. Even though you know you’ll have each other’s backs, there’s always the fear that you’ll fail to protect your partner. You never know when either of you will get hurt, or worse, but you can’t let that fear get the better of you or one of you will get hurt.
Ethan: [Nods in agreement]
Dex: I hear you. So, now that your relationship has changed, how has it affected your partnership?
Ethan: [Leans in to whisper in Calvin’s ear]
Calvin: [Fidgets] Yeah, I guess so. Ethan says I worry more. It’s not like I didn’t worry about him before, but I wasn’t a part of his decision making before. Not really. Ethan gets wrapped up in the job sometimes and ends up taking risks he shouldn’t be taking.
Ethan: [Nods somberly. Puts his hands to his head and acts like it’s exploding]
Dex: Calvin’s loses his shit.
Calvin: I do not lose my shit. I get pissed off. It’s not just about him. It’s about us. Having him take stupid risks takes years off my life. Like when he’s defusing an explosive device and he’s so wrapped up in the damn thing that he leaves himself little time to get a safe distance away if he doesn’t have enough time to disarm it. We already had a close call and I wanted to strangle him.
Ethan: [Sighs. He takes hold of Calvin’s hand and puts it to his lips for a kiss]
Dex: Aw. I bet the makeup sex after is awesome though. [Wriggles his eyebrows]
Calvin: [Narrows his eyes at Dex] You really spend way too much time meddling in our sex lives.
Dex: [Gasps] I do not meddle. I’m simply inquisitive.
Ethan: [Smiles wickedly. He whispers in Calvin’s ear.]
Dex: What did he say?
Calvin: Listen to any ZZ Top lately?
Dex: [Face goes red] That is so not cool! Like that was my fault.
Calvin: You could have left.
Dex: I didn’t want to interrupt.
Dex: I am not! I didn’t walk out because you’ve been all broody for months and were finally getting some. Who am I to take that away?
Calvin: Just get on with the interview.
Dex: Okay. This is important. Would you say that over the years during your time on Destructive Delta, that Sloane has gotten sexier or has he always been this smoking hot? The truth now.
Ethan: [Covers his mouth to conceal his laughter]
Calvin: How are you allowed out unsupervised?
Dex: I’m a big boy now, so I get to go where I want on my own.
Ethan: [Whispers in Calvin’s ear. They both snicker like school boys]
Dex: What’s so funny?
Calvin: Ethan says he saw Sloane downstairs in the café. Sloane thinks you’re here meeting with PR.
Dex: [Peers at Ethan] You know too much.
[The door slams open and Seb stalks in. He glares at Dex and thrusts a finger at him]
Dex: Me! [Smiles widely] Hey, Seb. How’s it going?
Seb: I don’t know how you did it, but you’re in so much trouble.
Calvin: [Frowns at Seb] Where the hell have you been?
Seb: Stuck in the elevator which conveniently broke down when I got to this floor. I had to wait for someone to come get me out. [Stomps over at Dex] Get out of my chair before I reconsider strangling you.
Dex: [Jumps out of his chair] Look at the time. I’m just going to grab one of these cinnamon buns for the road. [Goes to pastry tray on the table] Maybe two. [Thinks about it] You know, maybe I should take one for Sloane. [Picks up the tray, and salutes everyone on the way to the door] See you at work tomorrow. [Points at Ethan] Remember, we’re having dinner at Darla’s tomorrow night.
Calvin: As if he’d forget. Speaking or remembering. I don’t remember inviting you.
Dex: You didn’t. Your mom did. She likes my dimples.
Dex: I know. I’m pretty amazing.
Calvin: How does Sloane do it?
Dex: Well, if you want to know. He does it with this sexy—
Calvin and Seb: Get out!
Well folks, looks like that’s all we have time for. Will Calvin and Ethan go home and have sexy-times? Will Dex share his tray of pilfered baked goods? Will Seb strangle Dex? I’m sure you all know the answers. Thanks for joining us!
