h4 align="center">A WICKED TINKER AND HIS GENTLE SOLDIER

Lately my characters have been all about turning expectations and conventions on their heads, and Clockwork Heart is no exception. Johann is a big, strong soldier, but he’s a quiet, tender-hearted virgin who mostly wants someone to tell him what to do. Cornelius is a spunky, absent-minded inventor who can barely stand to hurt a fly, but he loves a good orgy and inventive use for a clutch of clockwork fingers.

I had my ideas for who each one of the boys were, but they more so than most of my heroes took me on quite the ride of undoing and resetting my assumptions of who they would be and why they did what they did. They were, at heart, the same person, one quiet and one bold, but their life circumstances were so different. Their cultures. Their economic classes. Their support systems and lackthereof. They took me to places I never thought they’d go—including on a few rather erotic adventures.

It was a bit of a struggle to balance the Naples orgy and airship love scenes with the otherwise adventure-filled love story. I credit the as-always wonderful hand of my editor, Sasha Knight, who helped me find that balance. The end result is Clockwork Heart has become one of my favorite kinds of stories: not steeped in sex, but full of sexual tension and a few thrilling indulgences. Deep love and passion, and a great deal of play.

This book is a depature from my usual works in setting, but at the end of the day, I feel it fits right at home on the bookshelf, despite being slightly askew. If you love a good slow burn in a romance, you’ll like my tinker and my soldier. If you love some steamy scenes, you’ll find them in this novel too. If you want some adventure in your romance, I have you covered there as well. If you want some colorful background characters, I can promise you I deliver.

Above all, I believe Clockwork Heart is just what it’s billed as: a steaming good time. A steamy steaming good time.

Synopsis

Love, adventure and a steaming good time.
As the French army leader’s bastard son, Cornelius Stevens enjoys a great deal of latitude. But when he saves an enemy soldier using clockwork parts, he’s well aware he risks hanging for treason. That doesn’t worry him half as much, however, as the realization he’s falling for his patient.
Johann Berger never expected to survive his regiment’s suicide attack on Calais, much less wake up with mechanical parts. To avoid discovery, he’s forced to hide in plain sight as Cornelius’s lover—a role Johann finds himself taking to surprisingly well.
When a threat is made on Cornelius’s life, Johann learns the secret of the device implanted in his chest—a mythical weapon both warring countries would kill to obtain. Caught up in a political frenzy, in league with pirates, dodging rogue spies, mobsters and princesses with deadly parasols, Cornelius and Johann have no time to contemplate how they ended up in this mess. All they know is, the only way out is together—or not at all.
Warning: Contains tinkers, excessive clockwork appendages, and a cloud-sweeping tour of Europe. A little absinthe, a little theft, a little exhibitionism. Men who love men, women who love women, and some who aren’t particular

  1. I'm sure there is a joke to be made to answer the question about 'where would you want the airship pirates to take you?' but I can't quite grasp it.
In lieu of a joke, I'll go with Paris.

  12. As long as there were gorgeous guys smexing it up with each other, I would go anywhere as long as the trip took a long time and was so boring they had to use their imagination to stave off boredom.
