The Borders War Series by S.A. McAuley

With last week’s re-release of Sam McAuley’s …One Breath, One Bullet and Dominant Predator, the first two books in the Borders War series, and today’s re-release of the third book, Powerless… all revised and re-edited. Macky and I thought it would be the perfect time to do a re-read and have a chat to let you all know how incredible this series is! All in anticipation of the new release of books four and five. Falling, One by One and Strength of the Rising Sun.

Monique & Macky Chat the Borders Wars

Monique: Macky, we need to have a chat.

Macky: What do you mean? We chat every day...and through the night!

Monique: Well yes...that's true, I mean about these books silly.

Macky: Oh I do like a good chinwag! Got any juicy gossip?

Monique: For the blog!

Macky: OH. Right. The blog. Well, that’ll be a looong post. Just let me get cozy then!

Monique: Don’t get too comfy we need to keep it short.

Macky: Can you condense five hours of chat onto a page?

Monique: We could halve it if we cut out the amount of times you say “Fuck! It’s Amazing!”

Macky: Cheeky… then halve it again for your “OMG, this series is incredible!”

Monique: What’s with the BBC voice?

Macky: That’s your Miss Prissy voice and I’d never get away with ‘Fuck’ on the BBC! Haha….anyhoo, let's get this show on the road! It's no good, I have to say it...FUCK, this series is amazing!!!! Second time read of the first three, now revised books for me and I know I've just fallen head over heels once again for this brilliant engrossing series and its two mind blowing leads, Merq Grayson and Armise Darcan. God those guys have just put me through the emotional mill big time! But I absolutely loved every gut punching minute of it!

Monique: OMG! I love them so much, and second time round they were even better. Honestly I think they are my most favourite pairing ever! All enhanced by a compelling plot which spans years. It’s stunningly executed and each piece of the puzzle brings the whole picture together… It’s gripping and fascinating, and definitely white-knuckle-ride-worthy… but also thought provoking. With layer upon layer of camouflaged deception, tiny seeds planted to pique your interest further, threads interwoven, constantly making you ask questions, paths that lead you down one road only to take you on another. Secrets, lies, treachery, manipulations, mind fucks and revelations that shock the pants off you! The strategies and plays are constantly shifting, leaving you unsure as to who are the players and pawns. This is an all action series with two Alpha males that will leave you squirming in your seat. The chemistry between these two men, despite their lack of communication and suppressed emotion, is beyond palpable, and the hotness factor …well my imagination runs wild. I’m sure you know what I mean.

Macky: I know exactly what you mean Monique. It's a series that has you on the edge of your seat and on pins at every turn of the page, keeping you constantly second guessing every plot twist and character action. And yes! When it comes down to Merq and Armise, as love interests, these two conflicted men are probably the most intriguing and emotionally stilted couple of Alpha males I've ever come across. But Wow! They just speak to my heart so much! This might not be the fluff and puff style affair of the heart, that most people tend to veer towards in the m/m romance genre, but it's probably one of the most poignant and moving love stories I've ever had the pleasure of reading. And despite its down and dirty, visceral, angry sex, which goes against the grain of them having a ‘lovey dovey’ relationship, this is still a TRUE love story!

Monique: In every sense of the word Macky! It is without doubt, powerful and violent… but there is also a soul to this story with a heart that subtly begins to beat with every turn of the page. The complexities and intricacies of the plot are what compel you to keep reading but it’s the underlying glimpses at the vulnerability in the seemingly impenetrable armour of these two rough and rugged fighting machines that have you invested. And the writing… my GOD Macky... Sam McAuley can write!

Macky: Monique, I can't tell you how many times I have highlighted passages and quotes from all three of the books. Sam McAuley has a wonderful way with words and can take something simple, yet make it sound lyrical and profound! To be able to do that in such a hard hitting, pull no punches, dark dystopian world is awe inspiring. Just gorgeous writing. I am so fan worshipping Ms McAuley right now!

Monique: Macky, in my opinion Sam McAuley is one of the most underrated talents in this genre. Her writing is exquisite… her versatility from poetic to raw and gritty is just incredible! She can easily move from melting your heart and moving you to tears, to rallying the troops and peeking through your fingers. It’s most definitely the stuff of movies, and this would make a fabulous all action cinematic experience!

Macky: OMG! I’d never get anything done if that was transferred to the screen! It's bad enough getting totally lost in my Kindle!

Monique: Talk about getting lost in our Kindle’s, we have the next two to read and I can’t wait to get my Merq and Armise fix. I just love this series!

Macky: Me too Monique….everyone should know that IT’S ABSOLUTELY FUCKING BRILLIANT!

Monique: There’s no need to shout!

Macky: Do you think they heard me?

Monique: I think they heard you in Australia sweetie.

Macky: LOL...Can we read book #4 now? Can we?

Monique: Yes! Come on… I think Mark’s lit the fire in the parlour and I’ll make us a spot of afternoon tea.

Macky: “A spot of afternoon tea?” Now who’s being “terribly BBC!” Hahahaha...

Monique: I heard that!

Macky: Psst… while she’s making a brew… don’t forget you can pick up book one, One Breath, One Bullet FREE! with Dominant Predator and Powerless at 99c/99p. Limited time only, so go… now!
