THE RESULTS ARE IN AND WE’RE DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THE WINNERS!
READERS’ CHOICE AWARDS 2015!
A little later than planned but as always better late than never. It was a hard fought contest and a big thank you first of all goes to our readers and fans for supporting their favourite authors and making this once again super fun annual event. There were so many wonderful authors, books and covers nominated, all of which in our eyes are winners. Anyway, enough from us, we’re sure you’re excited to see the results so just click on the post to find out……….
Author of the Year
This category is for the authors and all the wonderful work they do. Of course many fantastic authors were nominated and they all deserve an award in our opinion for the wonderful books they write and the joy they give us, but alas this is the Readers’ Choice and it was a hard fought competition. So here we go and congratulations go to……..
Santino was raised by a conservative family, but he was anything but traditional. He grew up to be a smart-mouthed grunge kid, then a transient twenty-something, and eventually transformed into a guy who spends his days and nights writing romance with an edge.
Santino is a dedicated gamer, a former fanfic writer, an ASoIaF mega nerd, a Grindr enthusiast, but most of all he is a writer of queer fiction that is heavily influenced by the gritty, urban landscape of New York City, his belief that human relationships are complex and flawed, and his own life experiences.
Abigail Roux was born and raised in North Carolina. A past volleyball star who specializes in sarcasm and painful historical accuracy, she currently spends her time coaching high school volleyball and investigating the mysteries of single motherhood. Any spare time is spent living and dying with every Atlanta Braves and Carolina Panthers game of the year. Abigail has a daughter, Little Roux, who is the light of her life, a boxer, four rescued cats who play an ongoing live-action variation of 'Call of Duty' throughout the house, a certifiable extended family down the road, and a cast of thousands in her head.
When TJ Klune was eight, he picked up a pen and paper and began to write his first story (which turned out to be his own sweeping epic version of the video game Super Metroid—he didn't think the game ended very well and wanted to offer his own take on it. He never heard back from the video game company, much to his chagrin). Now, two decades later, the cast of characters in his head have only gotten louder, wondering why he has to go to work as a claims examiner for an insurance company during the day when he could just stay home and write.
He lives with a neurotic cat in the middle of the Sonoran Desert. It’s hot there, but he doesn’t mind. He dreams about one day standing at Stonehenge, just so he can say he did.
Book of the Year
In this category our readers chose their favourite book of the year published in 2015. As always this category received a lot of nominations but here are the top three books of 2015! These three books took the market by storm in 2015 and we would like to extend our congratulations to………
Santino Hassell for Sutphin Boulevard
Monique is still swooning over this book and in her words from her review, “I was totally captivated by Santino Hassell’s voice, and no nonsense writing style, wow, the man really is such an incredibly talented author. He has the ability to make me think past what I’m actually reading, bringing depth to the story and made me want to delve deeper, leaving clues hidden within the text which only enhanced my empathy and emotional connection.” Read Monique’s full review > HERE.
Abigail Roux for Crash and Burn
In the words of our reviewer Alan, “Thank you, Ms. Roux for eight years of wonderful reading, brilliant characters and a perfect ending.” Now if that isn’t a dedication then I don’t know what is. Read Alan’s full review > HERE.
Jordan L. Hawk for Maelstrom
Again another hit for our Alan and in his words, “It’s almost embarrassing to write a review for Jordan Hawk’s books. They tend to make me gush.I love getting lost in her imagination, her smart characters and themes, her vivid settings, heart-pounding action and beneath it all, the abiding love of good people doing the right thing.” Read Alan’s full review > HERE.
Debut Author of the Year
This category is for debut authors who wowed the M/M world in 2015 with their first publication and took the market by storm. It’s not an easy thing writing and publishing your first book but then to receive such accolades makes it all worth it. We wish these authors all the best in their endeavours and that they may go from strength to strength to give us more delightful books in 2016 to look forward to. So with no further ado congratulations go to……….
First Published on 10th July 2015 Debra hasn’t stopped talking about her first book, In The Middle Of Somewhere, since it was released. In Debra’s words, “I really enjoyed this novel. It was so well written, with great dialogue, I can’t believe it’s the author’s first book! I’m definitely looking to read more from Roan Parrish in the future.” Read Debra’s full review > HERE.
First published on 28th May 2015 Macky read and devoured his first book, Fin & Matt, and is probably still gushing about it now. So in her own words, “I think this might actually be one of the most sexy, sensual, romantic books I've ever read, because it had me believing that a love like that could truly exist, and honestly, despite the odd blip, there was NEVER a time when I didn't think that these two beautiful men wouldn't make their life together work.” Read Macky’s full review > HERE.
First published on 25th September 2015 Debra loved her book, Let The Wrong Light In, and as she says herself, “Avon Gale gave me an unexpected story. The writing was fresh with a good dose of humor and the story pulled me in and kept me wondering where it would go. I’ll be keeping an eye out for the next book from Avon Gale and I really hope you’ll give this one a try.” Read Debra’s full review > HERE.
Series of the Year
We all have our favourite series and this category celebrates the most popular series having a book published in 2015. No surpises here as who will ever forget the Cut and Run series even if the last book was published in 2015. I’m sure a few tears were shed over the final conclusion of what must be the series that’ll go down in M/M history. Of course who could deny Charlie Cochet her place with her THIRDS series? A series that goes from strength to strength with fans all in a fever for the next book. Also Santino Hassell again for his Five Boroughs series. Congratulations to all three authors.
Character Couple of the Year
This category is all about the book boyfriends we fell in love with… there seems to be a constant fictional love affair going on at Sinfully with one fictional boyfriend or another and with all these wonderful characters how on earth is staying faithful to one person ever possible?
Ty and Zane
Congratulations go to Abigail Roux for Ty and Zane, long may they live on in our memories and even though they have now reached the end of their journey this year I’m sure Ty and Zane will leave thier mark on many of us for years to come.
Dex and Sloane
Congratulations go to Charlie Cochet and her men of THIRDS, Dex and Sloane, I know Macky and Monique have been gushing about these two guys since they first took the M/M world by storm. Get Macky talking about Dex and Sloane and she never stops.
Whyborne and Griffin
Congratulations go to Jordan L. Hawk for giving us Whyborne and Griffin a series that has our Alan all in a fever as soon as the next book is released never tiring of the character couple in these books.
Book of the Year (Not Published in 2015)
This is probably the broadest category of all and is open for all. We received hundreds of nominations and again a hard fought contest with so many wonderful authors and books out there. Our readers nominated and then voted so congratulations go to the following books and their authors………..
Cut and Run by Abigail Roux
Congratulations to Abi for giving us an evergreen series that all started with her first book, co-written with Madeleine Urban. This book wowed readers when it was released in September 2008 and still continues its legacy up to the current day. Debra says from many moons ago in October 2012, “I am so sucked into this relationship that I am already into the the second book and know I won't be able to stop until I am through all the rest.”
Widdershins by Jordan L. Hawk
The first book in an impressive series that still keep its readers wanting more and Jordan never fails to accomplish this with every book as fresh as the next. Macky on the first book from way back in June 2013, “What an absolute cracker! This had everything you could ask for from a m/m paranormal romance. I'm not going to go into the plot in an in-depth way because I think everyone should discover its delights on their own.”
Hot Head by Damon Suede
Again another book that will never be easily forgotten. As Monique said in July 2012, “I have had to really sit down and think about writing this review, as I don't know if my words could ever do this book or Damon Suede's writing justice.......and HELL YES, it really is that good. In fact it is the best m/m book I have read so far.”
Cover of the Year
This category isn’t so much for the authors but more a dedication to the wonderful artists who create such fabulous covers. There are so many talented artists and cover designers out there but you our readers have chosen the covers that have most caught your eye this year and well deserved they are too. So without saying much more, here are your winning covers of 2015………………….
We had so many beautiful covers to choose from the choice was inexhaustable. Does a cover sell a book? Well, that’s always the question but there is no doubt with the winners here that the cover designs have definitley gone a long way in attracting the readers and getting them to open that very first page.
Audiobook of the Year
This year we have included two new categories and due to the ever rising popularity in audiobooks it only felt right to include this category in this year’s Readers’ Choice Awards. We were all thrilled by many productions and all the work that goes into producing an audiobook in 2015 and once again all deserved a prize in our eyes but it comes down to the top three once again. So congratulations go to………..
With audiobooks it’s always about the combination between wonderfully written stories and exquisite narration. As always we have here three top award winning stories that have been brought to life by the narration. Talking about narration…………
Narrator of the Year
The other new category is dedicated to those narrators who bring the written word to life, lifting the characters off the page and giving them wings. The voices that you come to love like a best friend with all the emotion they portray through the power of their voice alone. Reducing us to tears, jumping for joy or sighing at the happy ever after. Narration is a real talent as there are no facial expressions that can be used, just the nuances of the voice with all its richness, depth and variety to breathe life into a book and make it an experience that will not be forgotten. So now we come to the winners of this category and congratulations go to…………
Mark first heard the dulcet tones of Jason’s voice when he listened to Jason narrating Sara York’s series A Southern Thing. Ever since then he has been gushing and swooning over the narration talent that is Jason Frazier. In his own words, “After the book was finished I never pressed the icon on my iPhone to buy the next book as fast in my life as I did for this one. The emotion, the anger, the loving, the longing expressed in the words are given life and lifted off the page. Jack and Andrew’s love making, beautifully narrated. All the stages of Diane’s moods until she breaks down and then stands up and fights were exquisitely voiced. And Billy, oh dear, brave little Billy, absolutely wonderful narration.” Read Mark’s full review > HERE.
Mark’s ears were first introduced to Greg Trembley listening to Mary Calmes' story Just Desserts, ever since then he has never hesistated in picking up a book by this narrator, in Mark’s words, “His voice felt comfortable on the ears from the very beginning, his voice characterisations perfect. He seems to have exactly the right voice to bring Mary’s writing style to its full glory.” Read Mark’s full review > HERE.
Mark has now listened to several books narrated by Sean Crisden but he first fell for this wonderful voice the first time listening to Amy Lane’s Keeping Promise Rock. Since then the voice of Sean Crisden has become synonymous with beautiful narration, heartfelt emotion and a listening experience that is never forgotten. In Mark’s words (and he has a lot of them – lol!) from his review of The Christmas Throwaway by RJ Scott, “His voice characterisations bring the words of the author to life and true living colour, giving them flight and brought Zach so near to my heart it hurt. I sat on every single word and found myself staying in my car to listen to the end of the current chapter before getting out after I had arrived home from work.” Read the full review > HERE.
