To be home for Christmas, they must bridge the distance between them.
Charlie Yates is desperate. It’s almost Christmas and his flight home from college has been delayed. For days. Charlie promised his little sister Ava he’d be home for her first holiday season since going into remission from leukemia. Now he’s stuck on the opposite coast and someone else grabbed the last rental car. Someone he hasn’t even spoken to in four years. Someone who broke his heart.
Gavin Bloomberg’s childhood friendship with Charlie ended overnight after a day of stolen kisses. With years of resentment between them, they don’t want to be in the same room together, let alone a car. But for Ava’s sake, Gavin agrees to share the rental and drive across the country together.
As they face unexpected bumps along the road, can Charlie and Gavin pave the way to a future together?

Lisa’s Review

“...did you just compare wanting to kiss me to having the stomach flu?”

His laughter filled the car. “I guess I did. Um, sorry?”

I put on a solemn expression. “You make me want to vomit and shit my pants too.”

Pressing a hand to his chest, Charlie shook his head. “That’s the most romantic thing anyone has ever said to me.”

photo If Only In My Dreams is a new adult sweet holiday tale by Keira Andrews that had me smiling and left me giddy and happily sighing. Sometimes the right person comes along at a time when the circumstances are less than ideal and it can cause you to make mistakes you did not intend to make. When it seems like you’re about to get another shot, will you be brave enough to take a chance, step out of your comfort zone and no longer play it safe? Sometimes it takes a tumultuous storm to rip us from the safe bubble of comfort we have grown accustomed to. It is then up to us to determine whether you seek shelter once again or begin to dance in the snow.

Charlie Yates and Gavin Bloomberg used to be the best of friends. That is, they were friends until a few stolen kisses between them led to some misunderstandings and four years of resentment brewing between the pair. Charlie and Gavin have never forgotten about each other; but, they certainly never expected to come face to face ever again either. When a huge snowstorm leaves Charlie stranded and unable to fly home and make it before Christmas, his desperation to get home on time and fulfill his promise to his little sister has him trying to find other means of transportation to get home. The problem is that every other stranded soul has the same idea. His attempt to rent a vehicle and drive across the country is kiboshed when he discovers that the very lasted rental car has been taken. To make matters worse, the last vehicle has been rented by the very last person on earth that Charlie ever expected to see again, the boy who once broke his heart. Gavin agrees to share the rental with Charlie and off they go on their cross-country expedition to make it home before Christmas.

This author has written a story with two very endearing protagonists. Despite the four years that have passed since they last saw one another, they still feel the profound connection between them that goes beyond lust and attraction. As they embark on their road trip and the tension slowly dissolves between them, can Charlie and Gavin forgive each other and take that second chance that is being dangled before them?

All in all, If Only In My Dreams is a lovely, sugary-sweet, tale that is a perfect holiday read. Just the book to put you in the holiday spirit.
