When Bryce Weyland agrees to go to a comic convention dressed as a superhero, the last person he expects to see is his one-time best friend (and hopeless crush), Clark Kenmore. But Clark is impossible not to notice—he’s wearing spandex tights, a rainbow cape, and the same disarming smile that haunts Bryce's dreams.
Five years ago, they shared an ill-advised kiss that torpedoed their friendship. But now Clark has returned to Portland, and he wants nothing more than to return to the easy friendship that defined their college years. But the glowering Bryce makes it clear Clark’s mission is going to require a super-human effort—and more than a little luck.

Lisa’s Review

Waiting for Clark is a short novella written by Annabeth Albert as a part of the M/M Romance Group's "Love is an Open Road" event here on Goodreads. Members of this group were asked to propose a story idea inspired by a photo of their choice. The authors then selected a photo and story idea and wrote a short story.

It is no secret that I am a huge fan of this author with her fun and heart-warming books that leave you clenching your heart and happily sighing. This short novella was no exception. From the first page I was hooked and wanted to see just how things would play out between our two estranged best friends who let one incident between them change the course of their relationship.

Bryce Weyland hasn’t seen Clark Kenmore for a few years, not since the college roomies gave into their mutual attraction and shared a kiss. It was a kiss that changed everything between them. Now, Clark is back in Portland and hoping to reconnect with his once best friend. However, Bryce has never quite gotten over how his heart broke when Clark left. The pair meet again at a comic convention where Bryce is dressed up as Batman and Clark as Superman. Can the pair go back to the easy-going friendship they had in college, will Clark walk away once again or will our two protagonists finally take the chance on one another that their hearts have wanted for quite some time already?

The attraction between the pair is palpable and it does not take long for Bryce to succumb to Clark’s charms. This was a tender, sweet and sexy tale as we watch the two men finally admit their feelings and take a chance on something more.

All in all, Waiting for Clark was a wonderful short story in response to a prompt from a reader. Despite the length of this novella, Ms. Albert manages to create two very real characters full of awkward insecurities and vulnerabilities. I could not help but fall head-over-heels for both of them even if Bryce was as stubborn as they come. This is definitely a novella to check out for lovers of the M/M genre. Highly recommended.

“Sometimes you just have to don the cape and pray you fly.”

Clark laughed, a lot of relief tingeing his voice. “But I think it’s easier when you have a partner.”
