The town of Heartsville means something different to everyone who lives there. For Aaron Forester, it’s a gay-friendly buffer between himself and the rest of the world. After being outed in high school and bullied to the point of violence, his family uprooted their lives and relocated to the small hamlet. He’s moved on from all that and now owns a popular café in the bustling shopping district. But after twenty years of happy living, Aaron’s past creeps up on him in the most unexpected way.
Brad Collins only has one regret and he’s carried it with him since he was a teenager. When he moves to Heartsville and gets set up on a blind date with the most adorable, engaging man he’s met in a long time, he couldn’t be happier. But Brad didn’t expect the guy to be the person he outed in high school—who he’s now falling in love with.
Aaron and Brad hit it off instantly—in and out of the bedroom. But after a long overdue apology and a small serving of resentment, is their fledgling relationship worth another shot?
“Welcome to the gayborhood! In the cozy town of Heartsville, the streets are lined with trees, the shops are full of friendly faces, and happily ever after is just around the corner. Come get to know the boys next door – naughty, nice, and everything in between.”
Another Shot by J.H. Knight is the third book in a five part contemporary MM romance series which is a collaborative effort by five authors. Each novella is written by a different author and will feature a different couple. The authors involved in this project introduce us to Heartsville, a town with a thriving LGBT community. As the series progresses we will get to meet some of Heartsville’s inhabitants and business owners. While each book can certainly be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend reading the series in sequential order as there is some overlapping when it comes to the characters of this loveable town. Welcome to Heartsville’s gayborhood!
Aaron Forester is the owner of the successful café in Heartsville, Strada del Mercato Caffé. Aaron and his family moved to Heartsville over twenty years ago, after Aaron was outed in his sophomore year of high school which led to him being viciously bullied. His parents decided to relocate to Heartsville to protect Aaron and to allow him to live in a place where he’d be more readily accepted and embraced. Aaron is happy in Heartsville and has long moved on from all that he experienced in high school as a young teen who was outed before he was even ready to face the circumstances. The only thing that seems to be missing from Aaron’s life is someone special to share it with. When his sister decides to set him up on a blind date, Aaron has no idea that his luck is about to change.
Brad Collins is the owner of an eco-friendly construction company and is a recent transplant to Heartsville. The blind date that he goes on with Aaron is a success as both men hit it off…in more ways than one. Hint, hint! When all is going well between the pair, they discover a connection in their past that isn’t necessarily a good one. Will they be able to move past the misunderstanding, the resentment and the hurt?
I absolutely loved this novella! There was something just so endearing about both Aaron and Brad that had me rooting for them. Definitely a feel-good read that had me laughing out loud as much as it had me swooning. Not to mention, Aaron and Brad certainly have some sexual chemistry that is off the charts. Sheesh! ;)
All in all, Another Shot is a fun, angst-free tale that had me smiling from start to finish and left me happily sighing in romance lala land. It is one of those books that romance junkies like myself inhale as it is all about making your heart happy and leaves you all squishy inside. I am looking forward to the remainder of the novellas in this series and can’t wait to see how more of Heartsville’s residents succumb to love.
