Never Say Never
(Sniper 1 Security #2) by Nicole Edwards
Rating: 4.5 Stars
Ryan Trexler has devoted his entire life to his family’s security business. And now that he’s slated to take over the reins for the company, RT knows that his life is only going to get more complicated. Add in the fact that he’s lusting over one of the men who works for him and RT knows that there are some serious tough times ahead.
Zachariah Tavoularis—nicknamed Z—has been employed by Sniper 1 Security for a decade. Despite being known as the most loyal enforcer outside of family, Z also has a reputation of being quite the playboy, though that was based more on rumor than fact. When an assignment comes up that forces the two of them to work together, Z knows it’s time to show RT he’s not the man he thinks he is.
Can they complete the mission, despite the fact that it puts them in a tenuous situation, bringing them closer than either of them ever expected? And will Z allow RT to convince him that they can never be together, no matter how much they both want it?
Lisa: Never Say Never by Nicole Edwards is the second book in her Sniper 1 Security series, and also the first MM romance in this series. If you know anything about this author you know that she tends to write about copious amounts of sexual variations (MF/MFM/MM, etc.) and you also know that her books are hot as fuck as we watch each of the characters Ms. Edwards creates succumb to passion and love. I am certainly a huge fan! I love getting wrapped up in a sexy romance with enough emotional turmoil to fulfil any angst lover. This book definitely fit the bill as we watch two stubborn alpha-males clumsily forge a path to a happy forever.
Never Say Never was a wonderful instalment to this series that I am now hooked on. I have yet to read the first book in this series which is something I will be correcting immediately. I always find that when reading Nicole Edwards’ series, it is best to read in sequential order as each story more or less flows into one another despite the fact that each book highlights a different couple. I love how Ms. Edwards revisits all of the characters in each book and we get to see how their lives are progressing. This is one of the key elements that makes her books and series so wonderfully addicting. I truly enjoyed seeing RT and Z find their way. It was heart-warming, frustrating, sexy and passionate. All that it should be when we are in the throes of fervent love.

Guardians of The Haunted Moor
(Tyack and Frayne Mysteries #5) by Harper Fox
Rating: 5 Stars
(Book 5 in the Tyack & Frayne Mystery series.)
The wedding is just the beginning…
Gideon and Lee have spent a year in chaotic married bliss, with all the trimmings – a dog, tricky in-laws, and a baby girl they both adore. But even the best of lives can be fragile, and a shocking family loss hits their new world like a demolition ball.
Gideon has little energy left to investigate a murder that’s taken place in the fields outside Dark. He still has his duties to his community, though, and with Lee at his side, he begins to unfold the mysterious death of Farmer John Bowe. It’s harvest time, ancient West Country magic in the air, and rumours are flying through the village of an enemy Gideon thought he’d left behind long ago.
Can the beast of Bodmin possibly be real? Everything in Gideon’s stoical police-sergeant’s nature says no. But Lee has taught him to see the world differently, and now they must pool their resources to unmask a killer before more lives are lost – and somehow find a way to mend their shattered family, too.
Mark: I LOVE THIS SERIES! So you can imagine my delight when I knew there was a fifth book out in August. Completely devoured this and savoured every single word and sentence of Harper’s wonderful writing style. Right from the very beginning of this book we are thrown into the tumultuous lives of Lee and Gideon. Thrown headfirst into the circle of life, as one person dies a new life is born. I found a certain comfort in this funnily enough as it illustrates the ying and yang of all our lives. On the one hand a sad moment but on the other hand a joyous one, balancing out perfectly the lives of the two MCs throughout this book. Their daughter is born but after a family drama taken away from them and leaves both of them bereft and this obviously takes its toll.
I love how all these different threads weave their way through the book; a pinch of paranormal, a little murder, village traditions, rumours are rife, shady dealings and all set n a backdrop as atmospheric as it is beautiful. All threads coming together at the end providing for another fantastic Tyack and Lee adventure. Is this their last adventure? Well, I guess only Harper can answer that question. Even if it should be then Tyack and Frayne are now have permanent residence in my literary heart as two characters I will be visiting again. So for anyone wishing to embark on a Cornish journey of mystery, murder, the occult and two sexy MCs, then start and book and enjoy!!

Trasmundo by Varian Krylov
Rating: 4.5 Stars
Strange, quiet Luka doesn't live in this world; long ago he took refuge in his art, escaping into surreal mindscapes inspired by his favorite painters. In the beautifully monstrous realms of his imagination, he is safe from the pain of his losses: his family, his friends, his hope.
Until war breaks out, and he is forced to flee the only home he's known since he was thirteen.
Captured by an enemy soldier, young Luka is marched across brutal terrain, toward a fate known only by the bearded menace holding him prisoner. Quick with a knife, tireless and strong, Tarik guards the purpose of his mission as he takes Luka deeper and deeper into enemy territory.
When the soldier discovers the painful secret he has been hiding since childhood, Luka fears he is about to endure a new kind of cruelty, worse than being abandoned, ostracized or beaten. Or is it possible the soldier holding Luka prisoner is the one person who isn't afraid of the truth behind Luka's silence and lies?
Debra: Looking back, August provide me with a lot of good reading. Being forced to choose just one, I’m going with a book by an author that was new to me, Trasmundo by Varian Krylov. At times heart-breaking and other times beautiful, with two engaging, multi-faceted, main characters that are thrust into a situation neither could have imagined, the love story shines through. The two men are expected to be enemies, but find kindred spirits in each other as they traverse a dangerous, war-torn country towards an uncertain future and form a bond of trust and love along the way.

(Kiss of Leather #1) by Morticia Knight
Rating: 5 Stars
Book one in the Kiss of Leather series
Kyle’s a natural sub who builds dungeon furniture, yet has no interest in BDSM. It takes a hunky Dom to show him just what he’s been missing.
After Kyle’s partner of five years leaves him for another man on the night of their housewarming party, the shy, early-thirties carpenter needs to do a major reassessment of his life in addition to raising some serious cash. With no one to help him pay the lease on his Los Angeles condo, he worries how he’ll survive. His best friend sets up a meeting with one of the Doms and partners at Kiss of Leather, a gay BDSM club being built as a premier destination for those who want the best of the best.
Master Gavin not only wants the best—he demands it. When he meets Kyle, he assumes that part of the builder’s reticence to share anything personal with him must be due to his experiences with an abusive former Master. Not one to back down from a challenge, Gavin determines to break through the walls surrounding the beautiful man he can’t get out of his mind. He’s hopeful that once he convinces Kyle to sign an initial contract, Kyle might be the first sub to open up his heart.
Misunderstandings and accusations almost destroy everything between them before they have a real chance to begin. However, the true obstacle becomes not only whether Kyle will embrace BDSM as a lifestyle, but also whether he can handle a full-time D/s relationship with a big, bad, scary Dom who’s as sexy as hell.
Liza: This story showcases the art of misunderstandings and how things can go horribly wrong when someone makes assumptions - but in the most delightful way. In this book we have Kyle, cute, a complete nerd and so shy its almost painful. Then we have Gavin, a Dom in every sense of the word who sees Kyle and wants him.
I love positive books about the BDSM lifestyle and this one is a solid favorite of mine. Once the situation gets cleared up Gavin treats Kyle so well and this story is one of Ms. Knights best. The BDSM elements are well written, the dialogue is so funny in parts I almost came unglued, and overall this is a beautiful read for anyone who loves a love story.

The Lightning-Struck Heart by TJ Klune
Rating: 5 Stars
Once upon a time, in an alleyway in the slums of the City of Lockes, a young and somewhat lonely boy named Sam Haversford turns a group of teenage douchebags into stone completely by accident.
Of course, this catches the attention of a higher power, and Sam's pulled from the only world he knows to become an apprentice to the King's Wizard, Morgan of Shadows.
When Sam is fourteen, he enters the Dark Woods and returns with Gary, the hornless gay unicorn, and a half-giant named Tiggy, earning the moniker Sam of Wilds.
At fifteen, Sam learns what love truly is when a new knight arrives at the castle. Sir Ryan Foxheart, the dreamiest dream to have ever been dreamed.
Naturally, it all goes to hell through the years when Ryan dates the reprehensible Prince Justin, Sam can't control his magic, a sexually aggressive dragon kidnaps the prince, and the King sends them on an epic quest to save Ryan's boyfriend, all while Sam falls more in love with someone he can never have.
Or so he thinks.
Alan: There was only one clear choice for my August Hot Pick and that was The Lightning-Struck Heart by TJ Klune. It is a huge book, more than 530 pages. Yet it was still not enough for me. I read it in a single sitting (with an occasional bathroom break), and couldn't put it down. The reason I couldn't put it down was that I was laughing too hard to get up from my seat for anything but a dire emergency. I didn't just titter, I guffawed. Some of the humor was so over-the-top, so replete with bad puns, some of the settings, scenes and descriptions so beyond the pale that I just couldn't bear coming back to reality for even a moment. This book, like all the books by TJ Klune, was nothing less than sheer genius, a shining star so bright, it lit up my day.

Duck by Kim Dare
Rating: 4.5 Stars
Raised among humans, Ori Jones only discovered he was an avian shifter six months ago. Unable to complete a full shift until he reaches his avian maturity, he still can’t be sure of his exact species.
But with species comes rank, and rank is everything to the avians. When a partial shift allows the elders to announce that they believe Ori to be a rather ugly little duckling, he drops straight to the bottom rung of their hierarchy.
Life isn’t easy for Ori until he comes to the attention of a high ranking hawk shifter. Then the only question is, is Ori really a duck—and what will his new master think when the truth eventually comes out?
Macky: Another hard month to pick just one from, but I decided on Duck because I fell so hard for the character of sweet, adorable but much put upon 'fledgeling' Ori and his 'Ugly Duckling' style story. I loved the sizzlingly hot total power play between submissive Ori and his commanding Hawk Dom, Raynard; which put a clever adult twist on the original tale. It diluted the sweetness while still maintaining a fairy story like feel that, despite the BDSM content, still made Duck an enchanting, captivating read. Sweet, hot and uber kinky! What a combination...definitely worked for me!

Sedition (Demoted #2) by Alicia Cameron
Sascha’s world changed when Cashiel Michaud bought him, rescuing him from a brothel and a life of torture. They developed a sexual relationship, but can their relationship amount to more than that? Deceit, lies, and political scandal color not only their world, but their relationship, and dark figures from both men’s pasts threaten to intrude on the few moments of peace they have. A slave is never safe from harm, nor is an outcast family member. In the end, are Sascha and Cash strong enough to face the challenges, or will they be torn apart forever?
Monique: Well, Alicia Cameron has done it yet again! She’s delivered an exceptional, white knuckle ride that had my stomach in knots from beginning to end… And I loved every, gut wrenching, heart stopping moment of the emotional turmoil she put me through! All the agony and angst, the pain and frustration. As well as that sick feeling of constant impending doom, no matter how many times she tried to lull me into a false sense of security.
This series is un-put-down-able and just bloody brilliant! You have to be a certain type of reader to love the dark erotic, slave fic genre… especially where Alicia Cameron is concerned, because the lady pulls no punches. She takes you to the depths of darkness normally reserved for nightmares. The torture, debasement and rape I thought was behind us in book one, yet again rears it’s ugly head, only this time it’s so much more profound because of the growing relationship between Cash and Sascha, which only increased the nervousness I felt for the future of these two characters, and the vice like hold they have on my heart.
