All Alone in a Sea of Romance by B.G. Thomas
Rating ~ 4 Stars
I’m Jude Parks, writer of gay romances. Even though I’m good at what I do, the irony is that I haven’t exactly been lucky in love. My friend Jeannie says it's because I settle for Mr. Right Now instead of holding out for Mr. Forever. I say I’d rather regret what I have done than what I haven’t.
I only came to Romantic Voyages, the biggest romance convention in the country, for business. Yet in no time I got mixed up with a gorgeous cover model, weeping artists, drag queens, and crazy housewives—and became the prime suspect in a murder investigation. Well, they say any press is good press.
Maybe I should've stayed home. But then I never would’ve met Tommy Smith, the craziest, most outrageous, silly, sexy man I've ever known—a man who makes me wonder if it may be worth holding out for Mr. Forever. A man who might turn my rotten luck around. But only if we survive the weekend and I clear my name….
Debra’s Quick Bite
This book was charming, fun and witty. Jude is a 40 year old m/m romance writer who can't find his own HEA. It’s not that he doesn't want to be in love, there is just always something wrong the men he dates. Before heading out to the Romantic Voyages Convention, his male model roommate lets him know in not so many words, he is not as young and in shape as he used to be. Imagine Jude's surprise when hot cover model Dino sets his sights on him that first night there. The night doesn't turn out quite the way Jude had planned, but sets off a weekend full of attempted murder, drag queens and sudden nefarious celebrity status.
The focus of the story, told from Jude's POV, is on the building relationship between Jude and the flamboyant, completely loveable Tommy. It was nice to see two men who are not considered to be young, beautiful, perfect specimens. Both had their insecurities and baggage and I enjoyed seeing them get to know each other before falling in love and into bed. There a bit of a mystery, but as the villain is fairly obvious, just roll with it and revel in the havoc it creates for Jude, Tommy and the others at the convention.

Liza’s Quick Bite
Dear, sweet loveable Astrid, who would never hurt a fly, has been kept as a captive for a hundred years by the Warriors of the Dark. When help comes to save his friend Miles, Astrid is taken in by the Warriors of the Light and suddenly finds himself with the type of family he has only ever dreamed of. Klaus, is a witch on the Council, who is sent to question Astrid because the young man is a witch as well. But Klaus finds so much more than he bargained for. Not only is Astrid also half fairy, which should have been impossible, but he is also Klaus' mate.
This story is part of a series, but you honestly don't have to have read book one to enjoy this one. Miles is sweet and a new vampire, Ben his mate is adorable. Astrid's innocence combined with his power is fascinating and like all of AJ Jarrett's books the dialogue is funny, the men warm your heart and for a sweet read with more than a bit of intrigue, this is highly recommended.
On Wings of Song by Anne Barwell
Rating ~ 4.5 Stars
Six years after meeting British soldier Aiden Foster during the Christmas Truce of 1914, Jochen Weber still finds himself thinking about Aiden, their shared conversation about literature, and Aiden’s beautiful singing voice. A visit to London gives Jochen the opportunity to search for Aiden, but he’s shocked at what he finds.
The uniform button Jochen gave him is the only thing Aiden has left of the past he’s lost. The war and its aftermath ripped everything away from him, including his family and his music. When Jochen reappears in his life, Aiden enjoys their growing friendship but knows he has nothing to offer. Not anymore.
Mark’s Quick Bite
OK, I’ve decided to go with one last Christmas themed book however, Christmas here is something completely different. Really in this instance there wasn’t much of Christmas to speak about. So this week’s Quick Bite from me is On Wings of Song by Anne Barwell. This book is exactly the reason why I love my historical stories. A story that starts its course in one of the bleakest moments of European history. An event happens for one day that sheds a light of hope and humanity in the world; The Christmas Truce of 1914.
This book for me was a beautiful story, especially for Christmas, superbly written and shows us that there are truly no winners of a war and love really does cross all cultural divides. It is also your traditional romance where the story ends with that very first passionate kiss, but the journey there was exquisite, magical and totally alluring. I suppose the HEA you can think for yourselves, but I would like to think that Jochen and Aiden spent the rest of their lives together even if under the guise of “confirmed bachelors” taking into account the historical period. A superb 4.5 stars!!
If you want to shed a tear then watch this commercial from Sainsbury’s commemorating the centenary of the Christmas Truce. I defy anyone to watch this without getting a lump in their throat. It does me every single time.
Gasp by Z.A. Maxfield
Rating ~ 5 Stars
Jeff Paxton came home from Afghanistan looking to put down roots. Instead his pregnant sister talks him into a job babysitting the volatile megastar Nigel Gasp. Nigel is stubborn, needy, and determined to be the center of attention everywhere he goes. Before long, Jeff realizes that something is bothering Gasp, and that keeping him out of trouble might be more difficult than he thought.
Nigel never planned on getting old. He simply assumed a hard drinking, hard partying lifestyle would take care of that. Now that he's turning forty, he's depressed and a little bit desperate. To Nigel, forty seems like a fine age to deposit his DNA and check out while he's still on top.
The last thing Jeff needs is to fall in love with Nigel Gasp. The last thing Nigel expects is a whole new reason to live. But how can Jeff put down roots with a man who is never in the same place twice?
Love can be shocking. Gasp!
Macky’s Quick Bite
Nigel Gasp is on the cusp of turning forty and he's not a happy man! A gorgeous, successful rockstar; he's narcissistic, exibitionist, shallow, over the top and immature, but he's also extremely talented, witty and at times really funny...his cross dressing disguises are hilarious...but as the book starts he's been caught doing 'naughty things' on camera, so in his own inimitable way, convinced this is going to finally ruin him, he decides to go out with a bang! Thankfully this doesn't go to plan and results in his long suffering, highly pregnant manager Deidre calling on her solid, moral, deeply focused ex soldier brother Jeff Paxton's help...and that's where this entertaining, funny and at times highly emotional story comes into its own when Jeff who has some issues of his own becomes babysitter to the volatile star!
A real fan of the rocker, Jeff quickly learns that the reality of Nigel outweighs the fantasy as Mr Gasp puts him through hell, which leads to a fantastic opposites attract love story that had me laughing out loud, sighing a lot and shaking my head in exasperation a few times, but just like Jeff, I ended up falling hard for the irrepressible charms of Nigel Gasp and actually ended the book with tears in my eyes! Hot, sexy, surprisingly poignant at times and chock full of the sort of sarcastic banter that really tickles me pink, Nigel might be a bit of a 'marmite' character for some, but personally I just loved him, Jeff and their story.
