A Word From Jae
Hmm, author posts and what to write about... Well, I thought I’d share some of the movies and music that inspired me while I was writing the Hellfire series, powered as I was by black tea and trail mix. I still think red wine and dark chocolate would have fitted the paranormal theme better.
The first book, His, resulted from a love of vampire movies, one that started when I was very little and would catch old Hammer Horror flicks on the TV. Go Christopher Lee!
The Hunger with David Bowie is a classic vamp film. The problem with that vision of eternity, though, is that it makes it look so ... eternal. Not to mention claustrophobic, while the vampires themselves always appear sexily unchanging—in every way—even in the midst of decade after decade of change and revolution. I’m pretty sure most of us wouldn’t have their stamina for centuries of life. It would get seriously samey, which is why I decided that if vampires did exist (and no, they don’t ;) any self-respecting vamp would have to find their soulmate to share that life with or go crazy.
Roark, one of the MC’s in His, is kind of attached to his sanity, and he sure as hell knows that his soulmate, Nix, is the key. Nix, of course, has had more lives than a cat, including a previous one already spent with Roark. Problem is, as Nikolai, he was an artist turned psychopath, which only proves that even the path of vampire love is not always a smooth one.
A song I played a lot while writing the second and third books in the series, His Sweet Prince and Forget Him Not, was, naturally, Placebo’s My Sweet Prince. Which, at first listen, is intensely romantic, if filled with angst. Second listen, and it’s about a love affair and relationship with an illegal substance. Not so romantic. Even so, it felt appropriate for Easton Caird’s relationship with lycan prince Grisha. Grisha, fiercely honorable, is prepared to give up everything for those he has loved and lost. (Spoiler alerts, guys). Easton is prepared to give up everything, all of it, for the one thing he secretly craves but has never had: the total bond he finds with Grisha.
Forget Him Not unpeels deals made in His Sweet Prince and reveals enemies can be closer to home than you’d like, while setting up the Hellfire universe, and Roark and Nix, for battles ahead over their species very blood.
So what other stuff did I have playing while writing? Easton is a total retro music and vintage T-shirt guy, so amongst other things, various versions of Love Will Tear Us Apart blasted out, from the Joy Division original to a great cover by Dave Gahan. I should also mention another few vampire movies, Let The Right One In (brilliant), 30 Days of Night, gritty, but hell, it stars Josh Hartnett, so just, oh yesss, and lastly, Only Lovers Left Alive, with Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton, if you need convincing about that good old centuries-long vampire ennui theory.
So there you go... Some movies to check out, if you’re into vampire flicks, and a micro-mini soundtrack good to read any paranormal romance by.
Oh, and next time you eat a slice of red velvet cake, think of Easton. It’s his favorite, and it sure as hell beats trail mix.
Forget Him Not (Hellfire Vampires Bloodline 3)

Genre ~ Erotic Paranormal M/M Romance
Ex-assassin Easton Caird has made some major sacrifices in the name of love. The wild sexual chemistry and tender moments with his lover, lycan king Grisha Vasiliev, make it worth it. Not that reclaiming his pack from his gangster father hasn't cost Grisha almost everything himself.
They've both always lived on a razor's edge. But Easton's never had so much to lose before, or more dangerous enemies.
The Hellfire Vampires are his lycan king's fiercest allies. Then again, the Hellfire may decide they want Easton dead. Gold, also known as vampire blood, is the hottest, near-mythic drug going, and it's being drained from kidnapped vamps. Easton may just be implicated in those kidnappings.
Under siege himself, his lover will fight to protect him, for with a soul traded and his powers gone, Easton has few weapons of his own but for his wits.
His wits, and a very, very rare gift that he must no longer deny.
Grisha will kill to defend him. But will Grisha need to be defended against Easton?
* Forget Him Not is the third Hellfire Vampires book, and is best read after His Sweet Prince (the second).
Both books can be read separately from His, the first Hellfire Vampires story.
