Synopsis

Climbing the corporate ladder can be hell….
As a collections demon, Zavier grants his “clients” one wish in exchange for their souls. His job sucks, but once you make a deal with Corporate South, they own you. The trouble is, Zavier’s not a very good collections demon, with his tendencies to spurn authority and find loopholes to help deserving clients out of their contracts. He’s under scrutiny from the head of his department, who would quite literally like to see him burn. He just needs to close a simple deal to get upper management off his back. Instead, he meets Ryan.
Ryan is desperately searching for a way to save his dying sister. He doesn’t believe in magic and demons, but he’s out of options. Zavier’s not what he expects in a demon, and even more unexpected is the strong sense of familiarity—very intimate familiarity.
While trying to free Ryan from his contract, Zavier discovers secrets unscrupulous even by South standards. Exposing them could cost Zavier everything, but it might be Ryan’s only hope.

Liza’s Review

Ryan is in a bad place. His sister is dying of cancer and she has an eight year old daughter she is supposed to be taking care of. Ryan's world comes to an end when the doctor tells Maggie that there is nothing more they can do for her beyond palliative care. Unfortunately Ryan is also the world's biggest sceptic when it comes to things beyond the normal realm, so when his friend suggests that maybe a collections demon can give him what he wants - Maggie's health in return for his soul - Ryan's not sure what to think.

"We've slammed right into desperate times, Ty...I'd call this desperate measures."

Ryan has to do the summoning himself, after all it was his soul on the line and faced with the hopelessness that had become Maggie's life, Ryan was desperate enough to try anything. Zavier is the demon/collector sent to do the deal. He is nothing like Ryan expected, but then Ryan wasn't what Zavier was expecting either. He didn't expect to be making an agreement on the soul of a man he had loved well before he became a demon - fifty years before. His mind wipe during his conversion process should have taken care of all of the memories he had of his human life. One handshake from Ryan changed all that.

This is a totally different type of demon book to one you might have been expecting. It deals with contracts, miss-filed contracts, internal reviews and investigations - as if Hell, although it isn't called that, is one giant corporation rather than the stuff of myths and legends. This is also an interesting take on reincarnation and how much of our previous lives we retain if we are reborn.

"I did not sign up to share my body with a ghost. This mind and body are a single room occupancy, no roommates allowed."

Underneath the whole story is a strong thread of love - the power of love and what it can do when two people are prepared to die for each other. This is the first book I have read by this author and I have to say it was totally captivating. I do hope there is more - Adrian totally deserves an HEA but...well hopefully that will be another book. But this book in itself is a total love story - hot, enduring and definitely headed for my favorites pile.
