Synopsis

They don’t play for the same team. Or do they?
Jamie Canning has never been able to figure out how he lost his closest friend. Four years ago, his tattooed, wise-cracking, rule-breaking roommate cut him off without an explanation. So what if things got a little weird on the last night of hockey camp the summer they were eighteen? It was just a little drunken foolishness. Nobody died.

Ryan Wesley’s biggest regret is coaxing his very straight friend into a bet that pushed the boundaries of their relationship. Now, with their college teams set to face off at the national championship, he’ll finally get a chance to apologize. But all it takes is one look at his longtime crush, and the ache is stronger than ever.

Jamie has waited a long time for answers, but walks away with only more questions—can one night of sex ruin a friendship? If not, how about six more weeks of it? When Wesley turns up to coach alongside Jamie for one more hot summer at camp, Jamie has a few things to discover about his old friend...and a big one to learn about himself.

Warning: contains sexual situations, skinnydipping, shenanigans in an SUV and proof that coming out to your family on social media is a dicey proposition.

Lisa: Him is a collaboration by authors Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy. Both are new authors to me so I was a little unsure as to what to expect. Holy heck did I ever end up loving this book! This sweet and sexy story about two best friends turned out to be such a welcome surprise. I could not help but get wrapped up in this enchanting tale and see how things would work out between our two hockey stars.

Him was a beautifully written story that was steamy, fun and tender-hearted. With two captivating protagonists that captured my heart right from their initial introduction, how could I not fall in love with their love story? A story where the sheer emotion transcended through the pages. A tale that left me fanning myself, clutching my heart and happily sighing. This certainly will not be the last time I read something by each of these authors!

Five years ago, Benji Green lost his beloved father Big Eddie when his truck crashed into a river. Everyone called it an accident, but Benji knows it was more. Even years later, he's buried in his grief, throwing himself into managing Big Eddie's convenience store in the small-town of Roseland, Oregon. Surrounded by his mother and three aunts, he lives day to day, struggling to keep his head above water.

But Roseland is no ordinary place.

With ever more frequent dreams of his father's death and waking visions of feathers on the river's surface, Benji finds his definition of reality bending. He thinks himself haunted; by ghosts or memories, he can no longer tell. Not until a man falls from the sky, leaving the burning imprint of wings on the ground, does Benji begin to understand that the world is more mysterious than he ever imagined - and more dangerous. As uncontrollable forces descend on Roseland, they reveal long-hidden truths about friends, family, and the stranger Calliel - a man Benji can no longer live without.

Mark: Although I didn’t actually read this book in the technical sense but listened to it as an audiobook however I must say that in whatever form this book is powerful stuff! The thing is I very rarely or never really read anything that is paranormal. OK, for me it depends on the amount of paranormal in the book. I have read books where I have just been left rolling my eyes and saying, really? Oh pleease! You can’t be serious. But oh my! THIS BOOK! YES ~ THIS BOOK!!……. Gets absolutely everything just right!

This book goes beyond words for me and anything I write I feel would just not do it justice. The plot is well thought out, intricate and flows well. Even though it is paranormal, for me it never left the realms of credibility. And of course the feelz, the emotions, the longings and yearnings, an incredibly poignant tour de force of a book.

Synopsis

Reverend Brian Lucas has a secret his congregation in the Nine Mile Methodist Church knows nothing about, and he’d really like to keep it that way. But even his earth-shattering secret takes a backseat to what else is happening in his tiny hometown.

Murders usually do that.

Brian's “close friend,” Sam, is urging a resolution to their little problem, but Brian's brother, Boyd, the County Sheriff, is more caught up in chasing down a homicidal maniac who is slaughtering little old ladies.

When Brian's secret and Boyd's mystery run into each other head on, and Boyd's fifteen-year-old son, Jesse, gets involved, all hell breaks loose. Then a fourth death comes to terrify the town, and it is Brian who begins to see what is taking place in their little corner of the Corn Belt. But even for a Methodist minister, it will take more than prayer to set it right.

Debra: A first rate small town murder mystery, a long term couple at a crossroads in their relationship and some stellar secondary characters all combined to make this a five star read.  The descriptive writing had me hooked from the start.  There are many layers to the story, touching on family, love and religion, it unleashed a roller coaster of emotions culminating with an ending I didn’t see coming.  It’s a story I am still thinking about weeks after reading it.

Synopsis

SWAT officer Cole can handle just about anything, until he rescues Brett—a man who makes him question all he’s ever believed about love.

As a member of the Las Vegas Police Department’s SWAT team, Cole has seen his fair share of danger, but he’s never taken a chance on love. He’s willing to have some fun when the mood strikes him, but he’s married to the job. Called in on a hostage situation, Cole is prepared for anything and everything… Except for the brave and beautiful Brett.

Brett has been burned before, most recently by Officer Parker McLean. He’s hoping to settle down in Vegas, perhaps find someone he can build a life with. The last thing Brett’s looking for is another man in uniform, but when he meets Cole, there’s an attraction that can’t be denied. He doesn’t expect to fall for the chiseled alpha, though.

What begins as nothing more than two people experiencing a great night together spirals into something far deeper. But will Brett be able to handle the stress that comes with having a lover who constantly puts his life in jeopardy? And can Cole risk his heart on an everyday hero, or will the job he knows so well remain his top priority?

Liza: I love a book where the "weaker", "smaller" or even "less Alpha guy" has the guts to stand up for himself, and in this book Brett definitely does that.  Brett is looking for Mr. Right. He'd moved to Los Vegas thinking he would find it. But when the man he thought he could pin a life on, went off with someone else, Brett decided to stay and build a new life for himself.

Unfortunately part of that new life involves a hostage situation and that is how Brett meets Cole. Cole doesn't do connection, doesn't want a relationship, but he does want Brett. But what he doesn't understand is why he keeps wanting the man, even after he's had him. This is one of Ms. Knight's best and the HEA was realistic and fit with the two men this story revolved around. I loved it.

Synopsis

Badly wounded and on the run from his WWII Hungarian brigade, Janos Nagy stumbles through a temporal gateway to the future. Suddenly stranded in Manchester, England, 2041, Janos wants answers about a crazy world he doesn’t recognize.

Dieter Schmidt, flamboyant historian/linguist for the Temporal Research Institution has those answers, but the TRI is a neutral entity, set up to verify historical events under a strict code of noninterference. That doesn’t stop Dieter from taking Janos under his protection. Trust doesn’t come easy to Janos, who came from a time when revealing his secrets could get him killed, but the two men slowly build a tentative friendship with a possibility for more. But Janos’s continued presence in the future and Dieter’s persistence raise questions about the limits of the noninterference policy.

Since the rules have been bent once, one agent sees no reason why he can't push them further, and he travels back to 1914 to make a few changes of his own. Under Janos’s guidance, Dieter must leap back in time to stop the rogue agent from changing the past and risking everyone’s future—if he can survive history.

Sally: So to round up - an exciting adventure solidly based in historical fact, a tense emotional journey as the past locks horns with the present, interesting philosophical ideas on the nature of time, loveable protagonists and a touching relationship built with care and concern. I enjoyed this book SO MUCH, and I think some of you will too.

GRbuttonhotpicks11834315

Synopsis

A sexy new romance from the author of Trust the Focus.

Colin Hartman can now add college to his list of failures. On the coast-to-coast trek home from California, Colin stops at a gas station in the Nevada desert, and can’t help noticing the guy in tight jeans looking like he just stepped off a catwalk. When he realizes Catwalk is stranded, Colin offers a ride.

Riley only intended to take a short ride in Colin's Jeep to the Grand Canyon. But one detour leads to another until they finally find themselves tumbling into bed together. However there are shadows in Riley's eyes that hide a troubled past. And when those shadows threaten to bury the man whom Colin has fallen in love with, he vows to get Riley the help he needs. For once in his life, quitting isn't an option…

Alan: My Hotpick for July is Focus on Me by Megan Erickson. It’s not just because of her brilliant writing and vivid characters. It’s not just because her themes are so personal and deeply-felt. It’s not just because her characters are passionate and hot. It’s also because her books are deep, they work on many levels, are rife with metaphor and meaning, but also engage both the heart and the mind – or perhaps more accurately, they engage the mind through the heart. Megan Erickson is a prolific and well-respected author, but until her new “In Focus” series, she wrote primarily straight romance. With Focus on Me and Trust the Focus, she brings her amazing talent and rich characters to the Gay side. I’m so glad she did. I have quickly become one of her most ardent and dedicated fans.

GRbuttonhotpicks11834315

Synopsis

After divorcing the woman he’d been with since he was seventeen, Nick Fuller is starting over. He owns the restaurant of his dreams and he’s determined to meet new people, find new passions, and experience life to its fullest. Easier said than done—that is until he meets his new neighbor, Bryce Tanner…

Bryce is all about a good time. He plans to show Nick how it’s done, help him meet a few women, and enjoy the gift of the single life he’s been given. But things don’t go as planned, and soon they realize they’d rather be together than with anyone else.

Neither man has ever wanted another guy, but there’s a connection between them from the start—a spark they can’t deny. They find themselves navigating an unfamiliar new world and dealing with unforeseen obstacles. Physical desire isn’t enough, and now Nick and Bryce are at a crossroads. They have to decide which way to go: the easy path they’ve always followed, or the one that's determined to trip them up at every turn.

Macky: Whether it's something you believe could happen or not, this 'gay for each other' style story about two completely straight guys finding love out of a what starts as a close friendship, but over time turns to love was a satisfying, feel good read, and I thoroughly enjoyed Riley's feasible handling of the subject. Two extremely loveable MC's, great chemistry, a touch of drama, hot love scenes and a satisfying HEA...I finished this with a huge smile and a lovely warm fuzzy feeling. Loved it!

GRbuttonhotpicks11834315

Synopsis

Michael Rodriguez and Nunzio Medici have been friends for two decades. From escaping their dysfunctional families in the working-class neighborhood of South Jamaica, Queens to teaching in one of the city’s most queer friendly schools in Brooklyn, the two men have shared everything. Or so they thought until a sweltering night of dancing leads to an unexpected encounter that forever changes their friendship.
Now, casual touches and lingering looks are packed with sexual tension, and Michael can’t forget the feel of his best friend’s hands on him. Once problems rear up at work and home, Michael finds himself seeking constant escape in the effortless intimacy and mind-blowing sex he has with Nunzio. But things don’t stay easy for long.
When Michael’s world begins to crumble in a sea of tragedy and complications, he knows he has to make a choice: find solace in a path of self-destruction or accept the love of the man who has been by his side for twenty years.

Monique: This book is special, in an extraordinary, I’m kind of in awe of how special it is way. I was totally captivated by Santino Hassell’s voice, and no nonsense writing style, wow, the man really is such an incredibly talented author, and I’m excited by his potential and of what's to come in the future.

I was already familiar with Santino Hassell’s writing and I love his style, but in Sutphin Boulevard he seems to have grown, his style more polished but retaining that honest rawness, with an unapologetic realism, where he’s not afraid to dig around in that open wound. There are some, that like to read for escapism purposes, something light and easy (I include myself in that on occasion). But mostly I go for the books that are going to make me feel, rip out my heart, completely shred it before putting it back together. I’m a masochist when it comes to reading.  In Sutphin Boulevard, I got that and so much more, and one of the things I liked the most, was that it gives a believable account of the frailties and flaws of humanity, and all the characters in this book shine because of their imperfections.
