Featured Guest Author: Varian Krylov chats about Trasmundo: Escape… includes giveaway

Transmundo Escape

Varain Krylov is a hugely talented author of both MF and MM fiction, one who is not afraid to push our boundaries as readers. So we were thrilled when she agreed to pop into the blog today to tell us about her upcoming novel and the first in what looks to be a very exciting series… Trasmundo: Escape. Our Debra was the lucky one that got to read it and you can click on the link below to check out her review.

First off, big thanks to Monique and Debra for inviting me to be a guest here at Sinfully Addicted to All Male Romance, and share a little about my new novel, Trasmundo: Escape. Escape is the first novel in the Trasmundo trilogy, with book two coming out later this year. The whole story is much bigger in scope than anything I've written before, not only because it's my first series, but because over the course of the three novels, the story stretches across multiple countries.

Like Dangerously Happy and Bad Things, at its core, Trasmundo: Escape is a love story. Luka is the soulmate Tarik has always longed for, and it's Tarik's love that helps Luka to finally begin to accept himself and believe in the possibility of real happiness after a lifetime of being ostracized and mistreated. But when the seed of the story first sprouted in my imagination, it was in a violent landscape of war.

Luka and Tarik come from different ethnic regions of Xukrasna, a fictional Eastern European country that collapses in civil war and ethnic cleansing. The strife between the different ethnic groups in Xukrasna reflects facets of many of the ethnic conflicts and genocides that have occurred over the last hundred years: the Holocaust, the Armenian genocide, Cambodia, Rwanda, Yugoslavia.

One of the things that makes Luka's and Tarik's love so extraordinary is their rejection and defiance of the propaganda designed to turn two halves of the population against each other. For me, they are not just two people who fall in love, but also symbolic of the courage I wish we all could find when political leaders and talking heads exploit our differences, our doubts and fears to convince use that war and the destruction, suffering and killing it inflicts, is in our best interest.

In Trasmundo: Escape, Luka and Tarik both struggle to get out of a war where they are expected to kill or be killed. But Luka also fights against the homophobia he's internalized since he was a child, and Tarik helps him to let go of the shame inflicted on him by his family and the boys he thought were his friends. Compared to Dangerously Happy, and especially Bad Things, Trasmundo: Escape is a rather sweet and gentle love story. Of course, there's plenty of hot and sweaty on-page action (could I write a story that wasn't full of sex? I'm doubtful...), but don´t hold your breath for the restraints and blindfolds, in this one.

In the sequel, Trasmundo: Exile, things will be getting much racier and riskier. For those of you who enjoyed Xavier at his most dangerous, there will be plenty to feast on in book two.

Release Date ~ 6th August 2015

Genre ~ Contemporary M/M Romance

Strange, quiet Luka doesn't live in this world; long ago he took refuge in his art, escaping into surreal mindscapes inspired by his favorite painters. In the beautifully monstrous realms of his imagination, he is safe from the pain of his losses: his family, his friends, his hope.
Until war breaks out, and he is forced to flee the only home he's known since he was thirteen.
Captured by an enemy soldier, young Luka is marched across brutal terrain, toward a fate known only by the bearded menace holding him prisoner. Quick with a knife, tireless and strong, Tarik guards the purpose of his mission as he takes Luka deeper and deeper into enemy territory.
When the soldier discovers the painful secret he has been hiding since childhood, Luka fears he is about to endure a new kind of cruelty, worse than being abandoned, ostracized or beaten. Or is it possible the soldier holding Luka prisoner is the one person who isn't afraid of the truth behind Luka's silence and lies?

Meet Varian Krylov

10151210_1400073273602603_1334712136373967878_nSince her girlhood in a sunny coastal town in California, Varian Krylov has nurtured a love of words and a curiosity about the deep, dark forces at work in human nature, especially sexuality, and how they often paradoxically twine with our tenderest impulses. Her stories tend to explore the sometimes fine line between what arouses, and what frightens, what we’re driven to, and what we’re ashamed of.
As witty and seductive as I am sarcastic and self-deprecating, I spend as much time as possible thinking and writing about sex. No, not dense, inscrutable post-feminist texts on media representations of gender and the body--that was grad school. I write stories--short stories, novels, and starting a few weeks ago, screenplays--most of which poke and prod and the dark little corners of human sexuality. In a sense, nothing's taboo, anymore. There's no act, no fetish that hasn't been made utterly banal in the proliferation of porn. What intrigues and excites me is the exploration of the conflicting impulses, the twisted psychology and turbulent emotions of people who find themselves unable to resist desires that lie beyond their own moral boundaries.
