His first published novel Sutphin Boulevard was released on Friday to rave reviews, mine included, because this is seriously one bad ass book that you DO NOT want to miss. And how appropriate that he’s here today to chat about Sexual Chemistry, because after reading Sutphin Boulevard, I can assure you that Santino Hassell certainly knows a thing or two where that’s concerned… Enjoy, and don’t forget to leave a comment for your chance to win a $25 Amazon Gift Card.

Sexual Chemistry

“I want to watch.”

I slid down on the mattress until my hips and the small of my back were mostly flat against it. Nunzio’s gaze darted down to my stomach when my shirt skewed up, and then slid down to my dick.

“What do you want to watch?”

“I wanna watch you fuck yourself.” Nunzio held up the prostate massager, rapt expression tipping toward the kind of filthy leer that made me pant. “And then I want to see you fuck one of those fleshlights.”

“Now? Here?”

“Where and when else?”

I swallowed. “You have to be insane. My whole family is downstairs.”

“You have a dead bolt on your door.”

“Oh, that’s not suspicious at all.”

The mattress sank beneath Nunzio’s weight when he knelt at the edge of it. “Don’t hold out on me, Mikey. I need to see.”

“Need?” The question came out breathless when Nunzio slid the rounded tip of the massager along my erection. The pressure wasn’t enough, but I still canted my hips up with a hint of desperation. “You don’t need it.”

“I do. For when I’m having my own alone time.”

The above excerpt is from SUTPHIN BOULEVARD—my new novel about two guys juggling family and work drama while trying desperately to deal with the reality of falling in love after knowing each other for twenty years.

This novel tackles heavy themes and is very much about Michael Rodriguez, the main character, coming to terms with his own needs and wants instead of always focusing on his perceived obligations. But the one place where he doesn't have that problem is in the bedroom. When it comes to sex, Michael doesn't hold back. He knows what he wants and how he wants it, and that usually amounts to him being banged into a sweaty pile of trembling limbs and curling toes. He's versatile but he really really loves to bottom.

While writing SB, the question came up about why Michael always bottoms and why Nunzio prefers to top, but there is no complex answer to this. It has nothing to do with Michael being more submissive (or Nunzio being more dominant) or taking on a specific role in the relationship (I think we should all be over that old stereotype), and it has nothing to do with Nunzio having any sexual hang-ups or bad experiences. It's simply their sexual preferences. Michael enjoys being wrecked by Nunzio, and Nunzio gets off on Michael being such an enthusiastic and vocal bottom.

I didn't intend for Michael and Nunzio to have as many sexual interludes as they have, but as cliché as it sounds, there were moments when my characters went off the rails and started doing whatever they wanted. Their chemistry was off the charts and that led to a BJ or two in the living room, sex on the couch, rutting in a subway, fun with toys in the attic, maybe even a threeway! They managed a bed a couple of times too.

There are plenty of intense moments between the sex scenes—moments when the reader won't know when Michael will draw a line in the sand and put his own needs before his family, or how Nunzio will respond as doubts arise about where things are going between them, but their sexual chemistry never falters. The spark between these two characters was one of the most intense I've ever written, and it's not something I planned on. Originally, Nunzio wasn't even Michael's love interest, but their connection was too strong to ignore. I knew he was the one for Michael, and I can't wait for you guys to read the book and see how amazing they are together.

Synopsis

Michael Rodriguez and Nunzio Medici have been friends for two decades. From escaping their dysfunctional families in the working-class neighborhood of South Jamaica, Queens to teaching in one of the city’s most queer friendly schools in Brooklyn, the two men have shared everything. Or so they thought until a sweltering night of dancing leads to an unexpected encounter that forever changes their friendship.
Now, casual touches and lingering looks are packed with sexual tension, and Michael can’t forget the feel of his best friend’s hands on him. Once problems rear up at work and home, Michael finds himself seeking constant escape in the effortless intimacy and mind-blowing sex he has with Nunzio. But things don’t stay easy for long.
When Michael’s world begins to crumble in a sea of tragedy and complications, he knows he has to make a choice: find solace in a path of self-destruction or accept the love of the man who has been by his side for twenty years.

  1. Fave pairings: Ty & Zane from the cut & run series. Hsin & Boyd and of course now Mikey & Nunzio. i like when there's the slow burn and i'm just there like NOW KISS dammit! lol

  2. My favorites have to be Jin & Logan (Mary Calmes' Change of Heart series) which was a fated mate pairing (explosive right away) and Jory & Sam (Mary Calmes' A Matter of Time series) which was more of a slow burn since Sam had never been with a guy.

  5. Congrats on being officially published. In general, I like the slow burn, but I have read several books where it's been hot and heavy from the start. Some how the authors have been able to quickly show the chemistry between the characters.

  6. Hsin and Boyd, Emilio and Zach, Sam and Jory are my favourites!

  7. One of my favorite pairings is Tommy and Prophet. They were exploding all over the pages from moment one. But the UST between Emilio and Zach really take the cake.

  10. I fell in love with m/m thanks to Ty & Zane (Cut & Run by Abigail Roux and Madeleine Urban), confirmed the passion with Damen & Laurent (Captive Prince by SU/CS Pacat) and Jesse & Evan (Conquest by SJ Frost) and currently can't have enough of Dex & Sloane (THIRDS by Charlie Cochet) or Kingsley & Søren and Michael & Griffin (both couples in The Original Sinners by Tiffany Reisz, all-time favorites!)... Some may have been burning slow at first, but the sexual chemistry pretty much always were there until the first (and kind of neverending) explosive sex scene !

  12. Honestly I just love a good story. Slow Burn or Fast Explosion, doesn't much matter to me as long as the story is there :) But even a slow burn has to explode sometime!

  13. Congratulations! Love the slow burn between JJ & Reggie From Perfect Imperfections by Cardeno C. and the explosive sex between Gabe & Angel from Love the Sinner (Brooklyn Sinners) by Avril Ashton the chemistry between both each is so different but just as explosive.

  14. I can't think of any off hand but I like the slow burn best.

  15. More recently I loved the slow burn of Nathan and Trent in Learning to Feel by N.R. Walker. I also really love Dec and Sloane in Charlie Cochets THIRDS Series - so much fun and I also found the slower burn packed with humour especially entertaining with...Paul and Vince in Tell Me It's Real by TJ Klune and Sam and Ryan (Knight Delicious-Face) in The Lightning-Struck Heart By TJ Klune. ;'D

  16. I like a slow burn since it usually leads to a lasting relationship. Explosive sex right away tends to be just about sex which is good and has it's place but, personally, I prefer a longer pairing.

  17. OK, in real life, I don't believe in it so much but....my fave reads are all the crazy insta-love explosive attraction types. But I try and justify it by it being mainly paranormal - ie fated mate style. Otherwise in contemporary I like a little more build up.

  23. I've heard so many good things about this book! I love a good, slow burn, where the UST is off the charts. Makes the climax more satisfying, eh?

  24. Ahhh I really like how this sounds!

  25. I like both. It really depends on what kind of mood I'm in when reading. I can't think of any couples right now.

  26. Dylan & Tristan from Kindle Alexander's Secret; Graham & Rikker from Sarina Bowen's Understatement of the Year. I like the plot line in both of the one in-the-closet guy finding their perfect match and all the complications that come along with it.

  27. I'm a sucker for a good slow burn. For some reason I feel like the time it takes to play out leads to a better more solid foundation for me to believe in the love.
