A word from James

In my latest book, Becoming Jake, I wanted to explore this idea that sometimes life is not fair to you, but you have to keep going and believe that you will be able to become who you truly are. Jake has an awful father who degrades him for not being what he expected, at the same time he calls himself a Christian. This is something that speaks deeply to me as I grew up in a place where lots of people called themselves Christians just because they attended the service and not for helping others or being kind. I’m profoundly unsettled by injustice and I tend to get a bit mad at people who preach things they don’t follow — especially when they go out of their way to dictate how others should live their life.

So, as a writer I wrote about it and tried to show you can still be happy, even you your family doesn’t accept you for who you are — with some romance and hot scenes thrown in because I do love writing erotica.

After a disastrous breakup with his deranged boyfriend, Jake sees himself forced to go back to his parents’ house. Becoming Jake Excerpt

An approaching shadow caught his eye. He turned his head instinctively and saw Hunter crossing the street in long strides. He was tall, at almost six feet three, and had no trouble walking really fast. Jake’s heart jumped and his stomach sank. He felt the blood fleeing from his face and a dull pain in his temples.

“Come with me. This has gone far enough,” Hunter simply said, cutting off Jake’s escape. His voice was determined and Jake noted a hint of anger in his squarish face. Hunter had always reminded him of a younger Jason Statham, on account of his solid frame.

“What are you doing here? Are you following me?” Jake asked, looking up at him. His voice had come out in a higher pitch than he’d intended.

Hunter sighed. “I’m getting really annoyed with all this bullshit, Jake. Just get in the car and let’s go. You’ve made me waste enough time as it is.”

The blood that had fled Jake’s face now surged to his cheeks. “I’m not going anywhere. Leave me alone.” Jake took a step forward, trying to get around Hunter, but he cut his path off again.

“Get in the car!” Hunter hissed, grabbing Jake’s forearm. His eyes were two menacing slits. Jake had forgotten how strong he was, but was now reminded of it.

Jake yanked his arm free. His heart pounded. He knew that look and was scared Hunter would do something crazy. He quickly scanned the dark street, searching for someone who could help him, but there was no one in sight. It was too late and Britta’s neighbors would probably already be fast asleep.

Meet James Lee Hard

James spends most of his time looking at his computer screen, trying to summon the magical words that make the ingredients for a great story. He dreams about being able to move people and becoming a great writer one day.

He writes contemporary gay romance and erotica but he wants to write about much more. His mind is filled with sci-fi gadgets, swords, wizards and dragons and he has trouble trying to choose one theme. Maybe one day we’ll read something starring sinewy heroes battling giant dragons in tight pants. But the romance will always be there. And the abs. And the happy endings – Jame’s a sucker for them.

James draws inspiration from everyday life, books, movies, songs, pictures and much more. Almost everything can ignite his desire to write but not all will end up on his stories.

James is an indie author who relies on friends and a growing base of lovely beta readers to help him with his stories, ensuring that each book is better than the previous one.

  17. James, thanks for sharing how you get your inspiration with us. I can only imagine how difficult it was for you to take such disturbing personal events and weave them into your stories.

I completely agree with you that going to church does not make a person a Christian or a good person.
