We are thrilled to welcome two authors to Sinfully today… V.L. Moon and J.T. Cheyanne. This is their first visit and we are so happy they had time to pop in on the tour for their latest novel Broken Oaths.
Writing Across Continents
Many people ask us how we make our books works due to the fact that we live on different continents. It takes a lot of dedication and pre-planning.
Thankfully technology helps us tremendously as we do most of our work together on OneDrive. OneDrive allows us to write, share, edit and read in real time. It gives us both access to our manuscript without the hassle of constant emailing back and forth. The document is live all the time. Changes can be made without keeping track of which WIP we are supposed to be using which greatly reduces headaches.
The mapping out of storylines is usually done in advance in the times when we are together. Given the six hour time difference and our work schedules, we get roughly three to four hours together a night through the week. On the weekends we have more time to discuss plot, characters, twists and new ideas.
On one of our road trips between Alabama and Washington DC where we were married, we managed to pre-plan and map out a whole series, including the characters that would make up the books. The excitement in that truck was almost palpable. Ideas were flying faster than the cars on the interstate! We placed it in a notebook along with a longgggg list of ideas we've built up over the years. One day we hope to bring them all to life within the pages of our books.
You see, as much as the distance really does amplify the stress in our relationship when times are hard, it bears little effect on the way we manage to write together. In fact, it actually helps. While one of us is on UK time and six hours in front and the other on Alabama time; it means that while one of us sleeps the other writes, and vice versa; home life permitting, of course. We might be in the midst of a fight or floating on the clouds in happiness, but the writing is always the same. Its one place we always connect and agree.
Even when we write solo, we lean on the other for advice and help. We know that we can depend on each other for honesty and support as we struggle to put down what the voices in our head are saying to us. Writing together keeps us sane at times and gives us a foundation that never wobbles.
