The Soundtrack of Our Lives

Sam: What’s the first memory that pops into your head when I ask Tell me one way music has influenced your life (for good or for evil)?

Jo: Music has influenced every aspect of my life since my earliest memory. But the one that popped in my head first was a lesson I learned in 9th grade. Skipping school to see AC//DC and ZZ Topp will get you in a shit ton of trouble. I’ve been a rebel ever since, because... Seriously? It was AC/DC and ZZ Topp. Sorry-not-sorry.

Sam: The very first artist I saw live was Michael W. Smith (a Christian musician) and the second was Jimmy Page and Robert Plant… Fair to say I’ve been living this angel-on-one-shoulder-devil-on-the-other for most of my life.

Jo: That explains so much.

Sam: It really does. I’ve seen One Direction live 3 times, Bastille 3 times, back in ‘98 I saw Third Eye Blind live 6 times! And I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen Morrissey live. I’m a concert (and music in general) junkie.

Jo: I can’t say much about the 1D thingy, I did see Backstreet Boys (I can’t believe I confessed that), I was with you at all 3 Bastille concerts and CANNOT wait till they are back in town. I rarely go to concerts now except Bastille because well...it’s Bastille. But when I was younger I was a total concert junkie. Def Leppard, Motley Crew, Tesla, Green Day, Ozzie, Kid Rock, REO, April Wine, Cheap Trick, Nazareth, Bon Jovi, the list goes on and on and on…..

Sam: The new Florence + The Machine album is beautiful and my windows-down-on-a-sunny day joyride music. I’m a sucker for classical adaptations of alternative/rock music… I could go on and on, too! If anyone ever wants music recs I’m happy to swap playlists. I adore finding new artists.

Jo: Now we want to hear about the music that makes up your personal soundtrack! Leave a comment and one lucky person will win a $10 Amazon Gift Card.  ~Good Luck~

There is underlying beauty in destruction….

Miah Thade, Finn Reese, and Ritchie Meyer are Resonator, an indie rock band with an edge—best friends turned rock stars, known as the Detroit 3. When Evin Rene appears in their life none of them can deny he belongs with Rez.

They may have named their first album Ruin Porn because people get off on seeing how Detroit went from deeply loved to thoroughly forsaken, but they’re determined to prove that blight isn’t the entire story and blight isn’t always ugly.

Ritchie, Miah, Finn, and Evin take Resonator to a level no one anticipates. But no prosperity comes without sacrifice, and no secret stays hidden without a trail of lies. As Rez’s fame grows, so does the intensity between two of its members…as well as their potential for destruction.

Evin and Finn are about to discover the underlying beauty in their ruin porn.

  1. Rock and Pop are in my personal soundtrack. The first concerts I remember were of local musicians, I'm much of a concert goer, but I've seen some really memorable ones... My best memory, and the best concert I've ever been to, was a U2 life performance in Phoenix Park (Dublin) around 1993... So good!

  3. My first concert was the Texas Jam when I was 16. It was an all day festival featuring Cheap Trick, April Wine, Foreigner, and the Eagles. I saw AC/DC during their For Those About to Rock tour which was really cool. I've seen Ozzy, Aerosmith, Van Halen, and Metallica. Haven't been to a concert in a long time, but I still love listening to music. Some of my favorite bands right now are Foo Fighters, Linkin Park, Three Days Grace, Muse, Coldplay, and Mumford & Sons. Thanks for the giveaway Sam and Jo. :)

  8. I share your love for Bastille. I am jealous though because I have never seen them live. My tastes vary, mostly rock and alternative. Rise Against, Alt J, Arctic Monkeys and Zella Day are current faves. I haven't been to any concerts in the last couple of years. One of all time favorite concerts was Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin and Seether. Thanks for the giveaway!

  10. My favourite concert was seeing the Beatles in Toronto, Ontario (yeah, I'm pretty old). I have never been much of a concert goer because of the crowds but they were worth it! I'm sure I'm the only person who ever went to a Beatles concert and raved about the opening act (Abba).

I sneakily recorded my 14yo daughter playing guitar and singing, so when she's not around I listen to her doing Little Birdy, Toto's Africa and The theme from LOTR... 21. My first concert was with my cousins to see the Jackson 5. We had so much fun! Now I have favorites from the 60's, 70's, 80's, and the current music. Those missing decades were when I was working full-time and raising two kids! Those kids are now the reason for my current music trends.

  23. My first concert was Bon Jovi when I was in 7th grade. My taste in music has definitely changed since then. I love classic rock, especially from the 70s. My favorite is the Grateful Dead and I am so sad that I was not able to see their farewell performance in Chicago last wknd .

  24. I love music! I admit to a love for pop, but really I love things from many genres. My Spotify playlists would attest to that. I have one that includes Sarah Brightman songs, while another contains Motown hits and largest contains hip-hop hits from the 80s & 90s.
