A Word from Catherine
To be honest, I wrote this story simply because me and Keira Andrews were fantasising about Jason Statham playing a gay character in The Transporter films–what if Jason discovered a young man instead of a young woman in the boot of his car?
It’s about time they made a movie about a gay gangster/ James Bond/ Transporter type character. A character who is just as tough and resilient as a straight gangster/ spy/ assassin but just happens to be gay. So, not being a film director and because I like that idea I wrote a book about this character instead.
Of course after the initial idea, the characters and story took complete control of me as usual and it turned out nothing like The Transporter. I didn’t want to write about guns and blood and guts all over the place, I wanted to set it in Britain and focus more on the body guarding/ minding aspect rather than gunfights.
Chase started out as physically based on Jason Statham but of course diverged off into himself—Jason is nearly 50 while Chase is about 30 so they aren’t the same person. The character Chase has to protect is young and naïve and I didn’t want to get into the lovers with a vast age difference situation, I wanted to write a gangster on the run with clueless companion type story.
The identity of the clueless companion was more vague and hard to decide on. It had to be a young character and it turned out to be someone annoying who I could easily imagine strangling for most of the story. Definitely not a clinging or feeble character screaming help save me!
So basically these two characters set off on the run and end up arguing most of the time—their journey takes them through unpredictable physical and emotional areas in life, but where do they end up? You’ll have to read it and see.
Meet Catherine L. Byrne
Catherine L Byrne writes stories about relationships which push buttons and provoke reactions from readers. She writes about both gay and straight relationships, depending on which characters in her books shout the loudest to have their stories told.
An inquisitive author, she prefers writing about different situations in each book rather than writing a series about the same one—her stories range from 10th century Viking Britain, to modern educational settings and from mystery to romance.
As she was born and bred in England and lives there with her family, this infuses her books with a distinctly English tone. She has been writing since as long as she can remember and Extasy Books have published her novels since 2014.
